Notre Dame Considered A Big Recruiting Winner In June
Notre Dame Considered A Big Recruiting Winner In June originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Putting together a top recruiting class can often be a bit of a roller coaster, and that has certainly been true for Notre Dame in recent months. Notre Dame just finished off a red hot month of June that vaulted the Irish 2026 class up the rankings. ESPN named Notre Dame as one of the biggest recruiting winners of the month. Advertisement Notre Dame landed just one recruiting in January (Tyler Merrill) and didn't land a single commitment in February or March. The month of April was a strong one for the Irish, who landed five commits in the month, including big time ends Rodney Dunham and Ebenezer Ewetade, wide receiver Bubba Frazier, offensive lineman Gregory Patrick and cornerback Ayden Pouncey. The Irish staff continued building in May by landing elite running backs Javian Osborne and Jonaz Walton, linebacker Jakobe Clapper and must-get defensive tackle Tiki Hola. Join the Notre Dame Champions Lounge for the latest intel and analysis of the Fighting Irish! As good as those months were it was nothing like what Notre Dame accomplished in June as the Irish added six more players to the class, which earned them the honor from ESPN. Here is what they had to say about Notre Dame's hot June. "A slow start in the 2026 cycle gave way to an explosive spring for Notre Dame, highlighted by 11 ESPN 300 pledges since April 1. As things stand, Marcus Freeman and the reigning national runner-up Irish are on track to sign a historic class later this year. "Three ESPN commitments over the past 30 days made June a high-quality, low-volume month for Notre Dame. The Irish beat out Michigan, Oregon and Penn State for No. 2 overall cornerback Khary Adams on June 20, then edged the Ducks, Nittany Lions and Clemson for safety Joey O'Brien hours later, forming the foundation of the program's 2026 defensive back class, which also includes top-200 safety Ayden Pouncey. Adams, No. 28 overall, is Notre Dame's top-ranked commit in the cycle following the latest update to the 2026 ESPN 300. No. 5 overall tight end Ian Premer's commitment marked the latest bit of recruiting momentum in South Bend. If Premer signs later this year, he'll be the program's highest-ranked tight end addition since Cane Berrong in the 2021 cycle, and Notre Dame likely isn't done adding pass catchers, with wide receivers Kaydon Finley, Devin Fitzgerald and Brayden Robinson set to announce commitments later this week." - Eli Lederman, ESPN Advertisement Notre Dame will hope to continue its hot recruiting in July. On top of the three receivers discussed by ESPN, Notre Dame will also hope to add defensive tackle Elijah Golden (July 26th commitment date) and safety Nick Reddish (July 11th). Offensive Lineman Charlie Thom Commits To Notre Dame
Offensive Lineman Charlie Thom Commits To Notre Dame originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Notre Dame has added yet another player to its vaunted 2026 class, this time landing a commitment from Avon (Conn.) Old Farms offensive lineman Charlie Thom. The Irish beat out Penn State to land this 6-6, 270-pound lineman. Advertisement Thom has had an intriguing recruitment. Formerly a member of the 2025 class, Thom is at Avon Old Farms as a fifth-year high school player after spending most of his career as a tight end at Darien (Conn.) High School, but this spring and summer he has seen his recruitment blow up. That includes a recent offer from Penn State, who was hoping to get Thom in the class. Join the Notre Dame Champions Lounge for the latest intel and analysis of the Fighting Irish! Thom filled out a bit as a senior for Darien, and his projection to offensive line became more clear. Thom isn't athletic enough to play tight end in college, but as an offensive lineman he grades out well from an athletic standpoint. Earlier this month, Thom attended a Notre Dame camp and worked out in front of the Irish coaches. He impressed the Notre Dame coaches enough to earn an offer, and he immediately set up an official visit to see the Irish. Once Notre Dame offered the question was about when Thom would commit to the Irish, not if. He has been open about his desire to attend Notre Dame if they offered. Advertisement Thom is the sixth offensive lineman to commit to Notre Dame in this class. He joins Pennsylvania big man Tyler Merrill and athletic tackle Grayson McKeogh, massive Michigan linemen Ben Nichols and Sullivan Garvin, and steady lineman Gregory Patrick in the class. The Old Farms blocker is an under-the-radar prospect that has only been ranked by On3, who views him as a three-star prospect. He earned a 3.0-star grade on the Irish Breakdown board as well, but there are tools to work with and Thom has a 4.0-star upside grade. Thom earned offers from the Irish, Penn State, Nebraska, Michigan State, Virginia Tech, Boston College, Syracuse, Stanford, Virginia, Wake Forest and UConn. Thom is the 21st player to commit to Notre Dame, joining Florida quarterback Noah Grubbs, Texas running back Javian Osborne, Georgia running back Jonaz Walton, Georgia wide receiver Bubba Frazier, Florida wide receiver Dylan Faison, Ohio tight end Preston Fryzel, Pennsylvania offensive linemen Merrill and McKeogh, Michigan lineman Merrill, Nichols and Garvin, North Carolina defensive ends Rodney Dunham and Ebenezer Ewetade, Texas defensive tackle Tiki Hola, North Carolina linebacker Thomas Davis Jr., Ohio linebacker Jakobe Clapper, Pennsylvania safety Joey O'Brien, Maryland cornerback Khary Adams, Florida cornerback Ayden Pouncey and Tennessee cornerback Chaston Smith. Notre Dame Lands Elite Cornerback Khary Adams: Breaking It Down
Notre Dame Lands Elite Cornerback Khary Adams: Breaking It Down originally appeared on Athlon Sports. On Friday, Notre Dame landed a pair of talented defensive backs and the first to commit was Towson (Md.) Loyola Blakefield cornerback Khary Adams. It was a massive recruiting win for Notre Dame as the Irish staff looks to once again land one of the nation's best secondary classes. Advertisement Right after Adams committed the Irish Breakdown team broke down what it means. Here's the entire video of the Adams breakdown segment. Here is a rundown of the Adams commitment video: *** To kick the show off the IB team discusses how important this commitment is for Notre Dame. That is followed by a dive into the back story of how this commitment came to be. Notre Dame worked on landing Adams for over a year, and secondary coach Mike Mickens did a great job of establishing a great relationship with Adams. After his April visit to Notre Dame the Irish made up a lot of ground, and they were in a great spot going into the official visit period. It was the final visit, however, that helped Notre Dame seal the deal. Advertisement *** Next up in the show is the Class Impact, where the IB team breaks down how this commitment impacts the Notre Dame 2026 recruiting class and the Irish secondary. Notre Dame was looking for impact over numbers in the 2026 cornerback class, and Adams certainly gives them that kind of talent. *** After the Class Impact the team dives into the film room to break down what makes Adams such an impactful football player. Like many of Mickens' top defensive backs in recent seasons, Adams is an impact player on both sides of the ball. *** The final portion of the show looks at what's next for Notre Dame when it comes to secondary recruiting. Malachi Fields Named Top Newcomer For Notre Dame By Lindy's Sports
Malachi Fields Named Top Newcomer For Notre Dame By Lindy's Sports originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Notre Dame's receiving corps is set to have, potentially, their most productive season in quite some time this fall. Year two of the Mike Denbrock offense will likely be more balanced than year one, in large part due to the personnel and makeup of the offensive roster. The Irish will have a one-two punch at receiver they haven't had in several seasons in junior Jaden Greathouse and Virginia transfer Malachi Fields. Both players were ranked in Lindy's Sports Top 20 wide receivers for 2025 and Fields was ranked as Notre Dame's 'top newcomer' ahead of this fall. Advertisement Fields spent his first four seasons playing wideout for the Cavaliers. He had a relatively quite freshman year in 2021, but at 6-4 220 pounds, his potential flashed at times. In 2022, he was poised for a breakout season, but it was cut short and he missed almost the entire season with a foot injury. Fields returned to the starting lineup in 2023 and broke out immediately. He finished his junior season playing 783 snaps, recorded 58 receptions, 811 yards, averaged 14.0 yards per catch and had five receiving touchdowns. Out of his 58 receptions, 39 of them went for first downs, he forced nine missed tackles and recorded 10 contested catches in 12 games, all according to PFF. The only blemish on his season long resume was the number of drops he tallied (6) in 2023. It was a part of his game that was quickly corrected in 2024. Last season, Fields finished the year with 701 snaps played, 55 receptions, 808 receiving yards, averaged 14.7 yards per catch and repeated his five touchdown performance. In less snaps, he became a more efficient player in almost every category. He recorded 12 missed tackles forced, 13 contested catches, 34 first downs and only dropped two passes all season long. Fields recorded three 100 yard performances, two of them back to back, in 2024. His lowest output of the season came in their final regular season game against Virginia Tech where he finished the day with two receptions for 20 yards. Fields shined against the tougher opponents on the Cavaliers' schedule last year. Against Notre Dame, he recorded four receptions for 81 yards. He tallied nine receptions for 129 yards against Louisville and three receptions for 65 yards and a touchdown against Clemson. Advertisement Fields will join Greathouse and the rest of the Irish receiving corps this summer. The offensive line will be a year more experienced, they will have a strong run game as a foundation of the offense and the quarterback under center this year will be more comfortable consistently pushing the ball down the field. Fields' presence will change the dynamic of the receiving corps for Notre Dame; it's not surprising that he was named the top newcomer for the Irish this fall.
