When shopping Lidl's special deals, it's always a good idea to compare prices with other retailers to ensure you're getting the best value. Lastly, remember that a deal is only worthwhile if you genuinely need the product. Buying something just because it's on offer doesn't necessarily mean you're saving money. How to compare prices to get the best deal JUST because something is on offer, or is part of a sale, it doesn't mean it's always a good deal. There are plenty of comparison websites out there that'll check prices for you - so don't be left paying more than you have to. Most of them work by comparing the prices across hundreds of retailers. Here are some that we recommend: Google Shopping is a tool that lets users search for and compare prices for products across the web. Simply type in keywords, or a product number, to bring up search results. Price Spy logs the history of how much something costs from over 3,000 different retailers, including Argos, Amazon, eBay and the supermarkets. Once you select an individual product you can quickly compare which stores have the best price and which have it in stock. Idealo is another website that lets you compare prices between retailers. All shoppers need to do is search for the item they need and the website will rank them from the cheapest to the most expensive one. CamelCamelCamel only works on goods being sold on Amazon. To use it, type in the URL of the product you want to check the price of. How can I save money when shopping at Lidl? Lidl reduces items at the start of the day, and the best deals can be found between 7am and 8am, when most stores open. Shoppers can often find cooked meats, salmon fillets and breads reduced by 30% or more. Not only does Lidl have its own range of reasonably priced alcohol, it also has its own knock-offs of branded favourites – so say cheers to its bargain booze. Everyone knows about the "Middle of Lidl" – it's here where you'll find a load of random stuff you didn't realise you needed, at decent prices. But if you are hoping to avoid spending more than you planned, you can check what will be in the "Middle of Lidl" on the supermarket's website in advance. The Middle of Lidl is refreshed every Thursday and Sunday.

Lidl makes major change at self-checkouts to help stop shoplifters

If a Lidl customer is caught not scanning an item, the cameras will play back the footage on a screen - then if they continue to not scan the product, a member of staff will be directed over Lidl is trialling cameras at self-checkouts to help deter shoplifters. The technology is designed to record when a shopper doesn't scan an item. If a Lidl customer is caught not scanning an item, the cameras will play back the footage on a screen - then if they continue to not scan the product, a member of staff will be directed over before the shopper can pay for their shopping. ‌ The cameras are being trialled in two London stores, according to The Grocer. Lidl has not revealed which stores are taking part in the trial, but told The Grocer it does not currently have plans to roll out the cameras more widely. ‌ Lidl's latest customer privacy notice says: 'Some of our cameras may also use non-scan detection technologies as part of the checkout process. Any cameras using non-scan detection technologies are only active at our store checkouts and self-checkouts.' It also says: 'Any non-scan technologies used on our checkouts and self-checkouts cameras are only used to identify non-scanned items, prevent inventory loss and will always involve human intervention. ‌ 'All facial images collected as part of our non-scan detection cameras are pixelated and no facial recognition technologies are used.' Home Bargains recently installed similar cameras that are also used to detect unscanned items at self-service tills. The cameras are being used in the Home Bargains Speke store, which is only one of four branches where self-checkout tills have been installed. Home Bargains has more than 600 stores in total. The bargain retailer is working with tech firm SAI (Storewide Active Intelligence) and Everseen as part of a trial. Home Bargains operations director Paul Rowland told The Grocer the retailer found technology more effective than security guards. ‌ The latest figures from industry body the British Retail Consortium (BRC) show retailers reported a staggering 20.4 million customer thefts in the 12 months to September last year. The amount spent on crime prevention is also at a record high, with retailers investing £1.8billion on measures such as CCTV, more security personnel, anti-theft devices and body worn cameras, up from £1.2billion the previous year. The BRC says this added cost for businesses, filters down to higher prices for customers. The Government introduced a new Crime and Policing Bill in February this year, which features a range of measures including removing the £200 low value limit for shoplifting, meaning the maximum sentence for shop theft will be seven years regardless of value. It also includes making it a standalone offence for assaulting a retail worker. Helen Dickinson, Chief Executive of the British Retail Consortium, previously said: 'Retail crime is spiralling out of control. People in retail have been spat on, racially abused, and threatened with machetes. "Every day this continues, criminals are getting bolder and more aggressive. We owe it to the three million hardworking people working in retail to bring the epidemic of crime to heel."

Scotland's most expensive streets revealed – including 53 mega-homes in ‘Millionaire's Row'

One part of the country dominated the list THE NUMBER of millionaire housing rows in Scotland is increasing after a new record was set for £1million-plus sales. New figures have revealed 514 properties around the country fetched more than seven figures in 2024 - a rise from 506 the previous year and a new high. 4 Edinburgh's Morningside ranked high on the list Credit: Getty 4 The harbour at St Andrews in Fife Credit: Alamy 4 Homes in Bearsden, East Dunbartonshire, were also high on the list. Credit: Alamy Edinburgh's New Town, West End and Morningside dominated the sales with St Andrews and Bearsden also featuring. The research from estate agents Rettie & Co shows the market remains dominated by the East of Scotland, including Edinburgh, which accounted for nearly 80 per cent of £1 million-plus sales in Scotland in 2024. The EH3 postcode in Edinburgh, which includes the New Town and West End, is the number one location for seven figure sales with 53 in 2024. Its appeal is said to reflect sustained demand for 'centrally located, architecturally significant homes within walking distance of key city amenities, excellent schools, and cultural institutions'. The EH10 Edinburgh district, which includes Morningside, took second spot with 50 sales. St Andrews in Fife continues to be a strong performer with 24 sales over £1 million in the KY16 postcode last year. The G61 postcode in Bearsden, East Dunbartonshire, was the only West of Scotland area to feature in the top 10 with 16 sales. Simon Rettie, managing director of Rettie & Co, said: 'Scotland's prime residential market continues to demonstrate remarkable resilience, with 2024 marking a record-breaking year for £1 million-plus home sales. 'While Edinburgh and the East remain dominant, it's encouraging to see continued activity emerging in the West. 'Buyers are showing confidence again - a trend we expect to build through 2025.' This house has appeared on dozens of hit TV shows - but would YOU recognise it? The research showed just five Edinburgh postcodes accounted for nearly 40 per cent of all sales over £1 million. The top 10 postcodes in Scotland are EH3, EH10, EH4, EH9, EH12, KY16, EH1, G61, EH16 and EH13. Dr John Boyle, director of strategy and research at Rettie, said: 'The Scottish £1 million-plus market has weathered recent economic headwinds and emerged with renewed strength, culminating in a record number of sales in 2024. 'Edinburgh continues to lead the way, underpinned by its established prime districts and resilient buyer demand, while the wider East of Scotland market has consolidated its position as the engine of high-value transactions. 'Encouraging signs are now emerging in the West, with areas like Bearsden showing growth. Meanwhile, the sharp increase in sales just below the £1 million threshold points to a strengthening middle-prime segment, likely to feed future growth in the top tier. 'This is reflected on the ground, with strong demand continuing to drive competition in desirable neighbourhoods. 'With interest rates stabilising and market confidence improving, the outlook for Scotland's high-value residential market in the remainder of 2025 is one of cautious optimism.'
