Hollyoaks star Jennifer Metcalfe wears fitted leggings as she heads out for a walk with her rarely seen boyfriend

Daily Mail20-06-2025
Jennifer Metcalfe put on a sporty display as she headed out for a walk in Cheshire with her rarely seen boyfriend on Friday.
The Hollyoaks actress, 41, who was first spotted with Josh in December 2023, wore a pair of brown fitted leggings.
She teamed her casual outfit with a matching strappy top and layered over a black oversized hoodie.
Jennifer, best known for her role as Mercedes McQueen in the Channel 4 soap, completed her look with trainers.
Josh opted for a bright blue Nike T-shirt which he teamed with a pair of loose fitting shorts.
Before meeting, Jennifer had been single since 2020, when she split from Greg Lake, with whom she has six-year-old son Dayne.
Speaking to The Sun on Sunday on Valentine's day last year, Jennifer admitted: 'I have recently been spending time with someone and he makes me feel happy.
'I look forward to seeing him and our time together is always lovely.'
The star also admitted that prior to meeting her new man she gave celebrity dating app Raya a try, but never actually went on a date.
She explained: 'I tried that celebrity dating app Raya but I never went on a date.
'I prefer to meet someone and get an idea of them in real life before dating, so that app got deleted quickly.'
Jennifer has recently returned from a trip to Portugal with her co-star Nadine Mulkerrin.
The Hollyoaks star looked incredible in a skimpy brown bikini, which showcased her toned physique, as she enjoyed a break from her hectic schedule.
The stylish two-piece consisted of a triangle bikini top and matching high-leg bottoms and featured gold-toned hardware.
Her co-star Nadine, 31, who stars as Cleo McQueen in the Channel 4 soap, flaunted her enviable figure in a stylish black bandeau bikini top and matching low-rise bottoms.
She completed her look with a gold pendant necklace and a black wide-brim beach hat as she enjoyed a glass of bubbly with her best pal.
The beach club was aesthetically decorated and featured large sunbeds, a round pool, and a private dining area with a rustic table setting.
Sharing the snaps to Instagram, Jennifer captioned the post: 'Beautiful day ☀️ ❤️ My little fellow ratty head @nadinemulkerrin.'

Almost half of Brit couples say ‘what' more than ‘I love you'… and a 3rd argue a few times a week, survey finds

A SURVEY of 2,000 adults in relationships found the common miscommunications that can result in arguments. "What?' is a more common phrase than 'I love you' among couples over 55, according to research. 3 3 A poll of 2,000 adults in relationships found nearly half of all couples (46 per cent) have fallen out because they haven't heard each other properly. While 28 per cent get into an argument a few times a week at least, over mis-hearings. And this leaves them feeling a range of emotions when not listened to – including frustrated (42 per cent), ignored (33 per cent), disconnected (19 per cent), and even unloved (11 per cent). This phenomenon also leads to a range of misunderstandings between couples – from simply getting the wrong gist of a conversation (34 per cent) to actually offending their partner (17 per cent). And these miscommunications weren't one-offs – with a third being misunderstood by their significant other a few times a week or more. Specsavers, which commissioned the research, also partnered with beloved celebrity couple, Hilary and Michael Whitehall to cheekily cause drama by appearing to argue in a series of public stunts that show how Michael's hearing difficulties affect their daily lives. After some speculation, the couple have revealed in a Public Service Announcement video that Michael's undetected hearing loss was the source of many of these bickers. Michael said: 'I've always blamed our usual bickers on Hilary's mumbling. After a little persuasion, I had a hearing check at Specsavers and it turns out, I have a little bit of hearing loss... Who knew? 'The most romantic thing you can do … is booking a hearing check. Safe to say, missing half the conversation isn't ideal in a marriage. 'Now I've been fitted with hearing devices I've realised how much I was missing before – and the issues my hearing was causing.' What REALLY happened with Harry Styles' Glastonbury kiss - and which new celeb couples went public? Hilary said: 'For a long time I thought Michael was just ignoring me or not getting my jokes. 'Unsurprisingly, or at least not to me, Michael's hearing check identified a little bit of hearing loss. 'But now we know that's what's going on and he's got a hearing device, we're bickering less and laughing more.' The study also found couples ask each other to repeat themselves an average of four times a week – with a fifth doing so seven times a week or more. And just under half (48 per cent) reported having to at least sometimes shout to be heard by their significant other. Two in 10 went so far as to say they believe their partner doesn't listen to them when having a serious conversation – with most ignored topics including family issues (23 per cent), their feelings (22 per cent), and even problems in their relationship (16 per cent). As a result, 27 per cent admitted they have accused their better half of 'selective hearing'. With a third of those polled by OnePoll confronting their companions weekly, or more regularly, about not listening to them. In extreme cases, this has even resulted in 21 per cent walking away and leaving the situation – with 14 per cent saying they even stopped talking to their other half. When asked what might help ease these issues, respondents suggested being patient and understanding (35 per cent) and avoiding interrupting one another (27 per cent). Having a hearing check was also cited by 24 per cent of couples as a potential fix. In fact, at least one person in 14 per cent of couples have suggested the other book a hearing check. And nine per cent of couples have seen at least one of them diagnosed with hearing loss – allowing them to get the help they need. Relationship expert, Sarah Louise Ryan, added: 'Miscommunication in relationships is one of the most common issues I hear about in my couples practice. "For some, it's that they're having trouble expressing themselves, or that they don't have the tools to resolve a difference of opinion, but in many cases, it's a result of couples not hearing other correctly. 'This can cause marital tension, frustration, so if this sounds familiar in your relationship, don't put off seeking expert help.' Specsavers hearing expert, Sonam Sehemby, commented: '18 million adults in the UK have hearing loss and many don't realise that they are missing parts of the conversation. 'Since it develops gradually, people often wait up to ten years before seeking help. 'But when hearing loss starts to affect relationships, it's time to act – a hearing check can help couples reconnect and truly hear each other again.' 3

The 5 best Ikea hacks to turn basic furniture buys into stunning designer dupes, whatever your DIY level

IKEA furniture is the holy grail of budget decorating: functional, affordable, and of course, flat-packed. But if we're honest, sometimes those minimalist staples need a little zhuzh to stop your place looking like a cheaply furnished showroom. Enter the #IkeaHack hashtag, where social media users share clever tweaks to turn pieces into something more stylish and expensive looking. Whether it's turning £1 mirrors into a stunning statement design piece or crafting a Soho Home-worthy dupe from a plant pot and lazy susan, here are our favourite tricks to take your furniture from basic to brilliant. Picture ledges —> Light-up wall shelves @east_shore_home This IKEA Mosslanda hack was my most viewed of 2024! Who knew flip upturning them could create such a pretty feature! Everything I used for this diy is linked in my bio, led strip and connectors are linked in my Amazon storefront. ♬ original sound - Ashley | DIY & Interiors This clever trick to turn basic shelves into a sleek, light-up wall feature was shared by interiors account @east_shore_home and racked up over a million views. In the clip, DIY enthusiast Ashley takes three Mosslanda picture ledges and, instead of mounting them the usual way, flips them upside down. This hides the shelf's ridge underneath, leaving a clean, flat ledge on top. She then attaches LED strip lights to the undersides. The overhanging ridge – now facing forward since the shelves are upside down – neatly conceals the lighting. The result? Three chic, minimalist shelves with a warm glow. You'd pay hundreds for a ready-made designer version. Salad bowls —> Statement table View this post on Instagram A post shared by Cassandra Noel (@cassandranoelhome) This DIY job posted on Cassandra Noel's (@Cassandranoelhome) Instagram account has received millions of views and left users, in their own words, 'shook'. To start, Noel bought eight salad bowls, sticking them together with glue and then using wood filler to line any gaps. She then sanded them and stained them a deep brown colour for a luxe finish. To create the top, Noel bought a plain wood board and cut out a squiggle shape, staining it with the same shade as the bowls. After she left everything to dry, she finally secured it all in place – and the result was extraordinary. Dish rack —> Floating bookshelf This hack, reshared by Ideal Home, has been viewed upwards of 100,000, and is one of the easiest for DIY-phobes. All you need is a £2.50 Ikea wooden dish rack, and a paint colour that suits your decor. Give the plate rack a coat, leave it to dry, then stick it to the wall with glue on hooks or command strips. Voilà: a floating bookshelf. You can spruce it up with more LED light strips, stickers, or a hand-drawn design for a more personal, elaborate piece. Trixig paint pot £4 Shop Wall adhesives £3.50 Shop Lazy Susan —> Designer side table @frenchicpaint Steal this budget friendly DIY fluted IKEA side table hack and create your own on-trend piece without breaking the bank! 🤩 Frenchic Fan Forum member Kerry (over at @ shows us how she created her own designer dupe using a plant pot, lazy susan, wooden armrest tray and Frenchic! 🤍🌾 Opting for our durable and easy to use 'Browning Wax' to add an aged, rustic finish to wood and give the whole piece a more luxe-look. Who's feeling inspired? #Frenchic #FrenchicPaint #frenchictok #frenchicfan #ikeahack #ikeahacks #ikearodeby #browningwax #frenchicbrowningwax ♬ original sound - Frenchic Paint We've all seen those designer tables with fluted wooden bases (very Soho Home). But a clip shared by Kerry (AKA @klkinteriors) showing how to create a budget version might just be the greatest Ikea hack we've seen. It involves three pieces from Ikea: a £12 bamboo armrest tray, an £18 lazy susan and a £9 plant pot. Apply glue around the plant pot, then fold the malleable £12 fluted tray around. Turn upside down, and then apply plenty of glue to the plant pot's base, before sticking the lazy susan on top. For a final step, you can use a wood wax to give a more aged, rustic or sleek look. We're not kidding: this one is a serious bargain. Mini mirrors —> Statement black mirror View this post on Instagram A post shared by Anna | Affordable Decor, Hacks & Styling | UK (@our_home_style_) If you have a big blank space, @Our_Home_Style's nifty Ikea mirror hack is just the thing. To start, mark off the area you want to feature with masking tape, before using a paint roller and black paint to create a dark block. Remove the masking tape, and grab your Ikea mirrors, a ruler and some glue. The next bit is a little time consuming: you need to measure, mark and equally stick down the mirrors into rows across the black space. The result, however, is totally worth it: a huge statement mirror with none of the weight on your walls (or the hefty price tag). Job done. Trixig paint pot £4 Shop
