Steelers legend Big Ben says prime Aaron Rodgers is better than current Patrick Mahomes
On a recent livestream of his Footbahlin with Ben Roethlisberger podcast, a fan asked Big Ben whether he'd choose prime Aaron Rodgers or current Patrick Mahomes — and this was his response:
"Well, I would take Aaron in his prime over Patrick now," Roethlisberger said. "I think Aaron Rodgers in his prime was one of the top few to ever do it — and so is Patrick Mahomes at his prime. Patrick Mahomes is just entering out of his prime, I think."
Big Ben would go on to clarify that he believes Mahomes will go down as one of the GOATs — but his admiration of Rodgers is clearly second to none.
Rodgers and Mahomes never got their chance to have their State Farm Bowl — but the two multi-time MVPs could still theoretically face off in the playoffs this season.

3 Steelers defenders to watch at training camp
The wait is over — Steelers training camp has officially arrived. The re-tooled offense may have dominated headlines this offseason, but the defense saw some much-needed improvements as well — particularly along the defensive line and in the completely overhauled secondary. Here are three Steelers defenders to keep a close eye on in Latrobe as training camp action begins to heat up in the days ahead. DT Cameron Heyward While rookie DT Derrick Harmon will command much of the attention at training camp, the success of the Steelers' defensive line could depend on how much 36-year-old DT Cameron Heyward has left in the tank. Heyward is coming off arguably the greatest season of his career, earning his fourth First-Team All-Pro selection in the process — but Father Time waits for no man. How one of the greatest Steelers defenders continues to defy the process remains a mystery — and Latrobe may offer the first glimpse at how many miles Heyward has left. CB Jalen Ramsey One of the best cornerbacks of his generation, the ever-versatile Jalen Ramsey will serve as a focal point for the Steelers' re-tooled secondary. It's been heavily speculated that his ability to line up all over the secondary will play a major role in replacing Pittsburgh's former safety, Minkah Fitzpatrick — with fans potentially getting their first glimpse at training camp as to where Ramsey will play: outside, in the slot, at safety, or any combination of the three. FS Juan Thornhill Following Fitzpatrick's Steel City exit, the next man up to take the starting free safety spot is two-time Super Bowl champion and former Chiefs FS Juan Thornhill. His past two seasons with the Browns didn't go his way, but he's set to play on arguably the best defense of his career — and steel sharpens steel, after all. The starting free safety role seems like it's Thornhill's to lose at this point — and it could very well hinge on his performance in Latrobe. 3 Steelers on offense to watch at training camp
The Pittsburgh Steelers training camp is just around the corner, and there are several exciting storylines for fans to watch closely in Latrobe — including how new and familiar faces will fare on this new-look offense. From one of the fastest receivers in the league to arguably one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time, here are three offensive Steelers to watch at training camp. WR Calvin Austin III Steelers WR coach Zach Azzanni named Austin as the de facto WR2 for good reason — his explosiveness and speed are second to none on Pittsburgh's roster. In what's shaping up to be a potential breakout year for Austin under the Aaron Rodgers-led offense, Latrobe will offer fans a glimpse of what to expect in Year 4. TE Jonnu Smith Some believe Smith's versatility will play a major role for Pittsburgh this season — with reports surfacing that he could be used at slot wide receiver and fullback. The Steelers clearly believed he was one of the missing pieces on offense — and all eyes will be on the 2024 Pro Bowl tight end and where he lines up in Latrobe. QB Aaron Rodgers This almost feels like cheating — as it's a no-brainer that a four-time MVP and 20-year veteran QB will be one of the most exciting offensive players to watch at training camp. Pittsburgh has gone all in on what's shaping up to be Rodgers' last season in the NFL — making blockbuster acquisitions on both sides of the ball to gear up for a potential Super Bowl run. Two years removed from a devastating Achilles tear, Rodgers will look to prove that he has more than enough gas in the tank to turn the Steelers' postseason aspirations into reality — and it all starts in Latrobe. Steelers named logical landing spot for 5-time Pro Bowler who could replace George Pickens
The Pittsburgh Steelers have yet to replace George Pickens. Sure, the Steelers traded for DK Metcalf earlier this offseason, but the team had a need at wide receiver before that move. The trade for Jonnu Smith definitely helps Pittsburgh's lackluster group of pass-catchers, but the wide receivers room remains shaky, at best. Roman Wilson, Robert Woods and Calvin Austin are all in line for significant roles, yet Wilson is unproven, Woods is on the down side of his career, and Austin has just one season of decent production (548 yards in 2024). Adding a veteran in free agency would be the move this team needs. As far as which veteran they should go after, Bleacher Report's Kristopher Knox suggests Amari Cooper. "Cooper would be a sensible target for the Pittsburgh Steelers, who are going all-in on the 2025 season with quarterback Aaron Rodgers," Knox explained. "Pittsburgh acquired wideout DK Metcalf early in the offseason but also traded receiver George Pickens after the draft." Cooper is coming off a down season in 2024, which has led to fears about a possible decline as he enters a season in which he's 31 years old. However, in the year prior, Cooper posted a career-high 1,250 yards, so he isn't that far removed from great production. So, what happened in 2024 that led to Cooper tallying a career-low 547 yards? In his defense, he did have bad quarterback play while with the Cleveland Browns, who had a struggling Deshaun Watson as their starter for all six games Cooper appeared in with the Browns. Then, Cooper had to acclimate to a new offense after being traded to the Buffalo Bills. He also suffered a wrist injury in Week 8 that needed surgery, but Cooper declined to get it, according to general manager Brandon Beane. With the Steelers clearly going for it in 2025, they should bring Cooper in to give their offense, which was the weakest link in 2024, a better chance to succeed. Even if he is a bit diminished, he'd still offer an upgrade for Pittsburgh and would be a perfect fit opposite Metcalf on the outside. That would also put less pressure on Austin and Wilson and would alleviate the need to depend on Woods.
