Ryan Coogler Teases "X-Files" Series Reboot
With 'Sinners' now in theaters, Ryan Coogler is turning his attention back to his 'X-Files' series reboot.
'I've been excited about that for a long time and I'm fired up to get back to it,' Coogler said during a recent interview with '
Last Podcast on the Left
,' confirming that that project is 'immediately next' on his slate. 'Some of those episodes, if we do our jobs right, will be really fucking scary.'
Coogler was first reported to be developing an 'X-Files' series back in 2023, when series creator and showrunner Chris Carter confirmed that the two have had conversations about remounting the supernatural detecivde drama, which starred David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson as FBI agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully, who were assigned to investigate reports of paranormal activity.
'The X-Files,' originally produced by 20th Century Fox Television, aired on Fox for nine seasons from 1993 to 2001, before being revived at the network for two more rounds in 2016 and 2018.
Coogler is developing the revival idea through his overall deal with Walt Disney Television.
Asked if he's touched base with Anderson, Coogler confirms the two have spoken. 'She's incredible and fingers crossed there,' he said, explaining that Anderson was finishing up work on 'Tron: Ares' the last time they talked. 'We're going to try to make something really great, bro, and make something for the real 'X-Files' fans and maybe find some new ones.'
Over the past dozen years, Coogler has proven to be a master of breathing new life into established IP. First, he rebooted the 'Rocky' franchise with 2015's 'Creed.' Then, he adapted Marvel's 'Black Panther' comics into one of the MCU's most critically-acclaimed franchises, with both the 2018 original and its 2022 sequel, 'Wakanda Forever,' earning multiple Academy Award nominations.
'Sinners' is Coogler's first wholly original premise. The R-rated vampire thriller has proven to be an early hit with critics and audiences, earning $4.7 million in previews on the way to a projected $40 million to $50 million opening weekend.

Colleen Hoover's "Verity" Release Date Delayed
Yara Sameh Colleen Hoover fans will have to wait until a bit later in 2026 to watch the feature adaptation of the author's best-selling thriller novel " Verity ". Amazon MGM Studios has set director Michael Showalter's film for wide theatrical release on October 2, 2026, after having previously dated the project for May 15, 2026. Anne Hathaway leads a cast that also includes Dakota Johnson, Josh Hartnett, Ismael Cruz Cordóva, and Brady Wagner. Director Alejandro Iñárritu's untitled Warner Bros. movie starring Tom Cruise is also set for release on October 2, 2026. Nick Antosca wrote the Verity script following the previous work of scribes Hillary Seitz, Angela LaManna and the team of Will Honley and April Maguire. Producers include Hathaway, Hoover, Showalter, Antosca, Alex Hedlund, Stacey Sher, and Jordana Mollick. "Verity" centers on struggling writer Lowen Ashleigh (Johnson), who is hired by Jeremy Crawford (Hartnett) to complete the remaining books in a series penned by his wife, author Verity Crawford (Hathaway), after she suffers a mysterious accident. Lowen soon learns that a secret unfinished manuscript may reveal clues about the family's past. Hoover's works are hot properties in Hollywood following the success of last summer's Sony hit "It Ends With Us", which adapted the author's novel with stars Blake Lively, Justin Baldoni and Brandon Sklenar. Hoover self-published "Verity" in 2018 before Grand Central Publishing acquired it in 2021, and the book went on to become a New York Times bestseller. "Practical Magic 2" Adds Xolo Maridueña and Solly Mcleod to Cast
Yara Sameh Xolo Maridueña (Blue Beetle) and Solly McLeod (The Dead Don't Hurt) are set to return for "Practical Magic 2", Warner Bros. Pictures' sequel to the 1998 romantic fantasy starring Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock. Oscar winner Dianne Wiest and Oscar nominee Stockard Channing are set to reprise their roles as Aunt Jet and Aunt Franny, the eccentric and wise matriarchs who took in witch sisters Sally (Sandra Bullock) and Gillian Owens (Nicole Kidman) following the death of their parents and taught them everything they know about magic, mischief, and self-reliance. Production on the sequel is now underway, with Bullock and Kidman returning. Joey King has now locked down the role of Sally's daughter, after being tipped as being in talks. Rounding out the cast, are Lee Pace (Foundation) and Maisie Williams (The New Look). Character details for the newcomers are under wraps, as is the plot of the sequel, to be released in theaters worldwide on September 18, 2026. First announced last summer, the follow-up is being directed by Susanne Bier (The Perfect Couple, Bird Box). Akiva Goldsman, who co-wrote the original film, has returned to write the script with Georgia Pritchett (Succession). Bullock and Kidman are producing alongside the original film's Denise Di Novi. In a statement on the castings, the Practical Magic filmmaking team said, 'Twenty-five years ago, Sally, Gillian, Aunt Jet and Aunt Franny flew off the pages of Alice Hoffman's beloved novel and into theaters around the world, and we are thrilled to bring the Owens family back to the big screen with Joey, Lee, Maisie, Solly and Xolo joining the next chapter in our story. The enduring affection for these characters has been our inspiration to deliver the next installment in the Owens' story to new fans, and those who've been with us since the beginning.' Directed by Griffin Dunne, Practical Magic adapted the 1995 novel from Alice Hoffman. The story introduces Sally and Gillian Owens as sisters who come from a long line of witches. Raised by their eccentric aunts in a magical household, they must confront a deadly curse and their own powers when love and danger collide. Jeffrey Dean Morgan to Star in Amazon YA Series "Sterling Point"
Yara Sameh Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Jay Duplass have been cast in Megan Park's upcoming Amazon Prime Video series 'Sterling Point,'. The young adult show was originally announced in January. Morgan and Duplass will appear in recurring roles as Joe and Steven respectively. They will appear alongside previously announced cast members Ella Rubin, Amélie Elisabeth Hoeferle, Daniel Quinn-Toye, Jacob Whiteduck-Lavoie, Bo Bragason, and Keen Ruffalo. While the exact plot details are being kept under wraps, sources say the show follows a set of adopted twins (Rubin and Ruffalo) who travel to an island on a lake that was left to them by their estranged grandfather in his will. Morgan currently stars in the AMC series 'The Walking Dead: Dead City,' reprising the role of Negan that he first played in the mothership series. He also currently appears in the Prime Video series 'The Boys,' with that show prepping its fifth and final season. His other TV credits include 'The Good Wife,' 'Grey's Anatomy,' and 'Supernatural,' while he has been in films such as 'Watchmen,' 'Rampage,' and 'P.S. I Love You.' As an actor, Duplass' recently appeared in the shows 'Percy Jackson and the Olympians' as Hades as well as 'Industry' and 'Dying for Sex.' He is known for his roles in shows like 'Transparent' at Amazon, 'Search Party' at TBS, and 'The Mindy Project' at Hulu. He and his brother Mark are also celebrated film and television writers and directors, including work on shows like 'Room 104,' 'Somebody Somewhere,' 'Animals, and 'Togetherness.' In film, Duplass has written and directed projects such as 'Cyrus,' 'Jeff, Who Lives at Home,' and 'Baghead' among others. Park created 'Sterling Point' and will direct, executive produce, and serve as co-showrunner. YA veterans Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage will also co-showrun and executive produce under their Fake Empire banner.
