Fresh appeal for information around death of man in Co Monaghan hit-and-run
Gardaí said Fintan Traynor, 20, had been walking home on a road close to the Irish border in the early hours of June 26th, 2011 after a night out in Castleblayney when he was struck by a car.

They said it happened on the Lemgare Road, which links the villages of Clontibret and Annyalla with Derrynoose and Keady in Co Armagh, and the driver of the vehicle failed to stop, instead fleeing the scene.

Investigating gardai believe that an Audi A4, 1996 to 2001 model, was involved in this collision, and have issued a picture of the front lower portion of the grille of such a vehicle which was recovered at the scene.
While some 400 leads have been pursued over the last 14 years, the vehicle and driver have yet to be located.
Detective Inspector Adrian Durcan of the Monaghan Garda District has issued an public for information.

'I am appealing to the public that if they have any information to please come forward,' he said.
'With the passage of time, now perhaps someone may feel more comfortable coming forward with information in relation to this matter.

Body found in search for missing teenager last seen with her obsessed boyfriend
A body has been found in the search for a missing 18-year-old who disappeared over the weekend with her 'obsessed' boyfriend. Marissa DiNapoli was last heard from on Saturday, when she texted her family to say she was going to stay overnight with a friend. Police believe she was last seen the next morning at 9:45am in Morgan Hill, California with her boyfriend, named as Martin Mendoza, who officials say is considered a person of interest in her disappearance, per ABC7. Friends of DiNapoli told NBC Bay Area that she had previously shared that she was fearful of Mendoza, claiming that she told them, 'he would kill her, that he would not stop, that he's obsessed with her, that he's crazy and that he's willing to go to that extent.' Family friend Serina Soque added that some of DiNapoli's loved ones contacted Mendoza during the search, and claimed that he, 'tried to say he wasn't Martin and then followed that with he hasn't spoken to her for two weeks'. Soque claimed that there is a 'video of him on the 29th (of June) and leaving with her', however Daily Mail has not independently verified this. In a press release on Wednesday before the body was found, officials addressed DiNapoli directly, urging her to come forward. Law enforcement sources told NBC Bay Area that it was DiNapoli's own family who found the body on Wednesday, after her loved ones had been searching the surrounding area for days. She is described as a Hispanic woman, about 5 feet tall, weighing about 100 pounds, with brown eyes and black hair. DiNapoli graduated from Opportunity Youth Academy three weeks ago, and her teacher Tara Guerrero, who was helping the search, said she was a bright and kind person. 'Every student in my class touches my heart, but her especially. She had the brightest smile that would light up every room, she was friends and friendly with everyone who came into our classroom,' she said. 'She's just one of those kids that leaves a mark on your heart, and I have a broken heart right now. I consider her one of my own children.'

Cops hunt topless man ‘with hairy body' after woman in her 40s ‘sexually assaulted'
COPS are on the hunt for a topless man after a woman in her 40s was sexually assaulted. Wiltshire Police have already arrested five men in connection with the "serious sexual offences". 4 4 The force appealed to the public for more information in February to help identify two men. It came after a female victim in her 40s reported the alleged attack. Officers were able to locate one of the males and he has been arrested, along with four others. A spokesperson for the force said: "Wiltshire Police are continuing to appeal to the public to identify this man in connection with an investigation into serious sexual offences in Swindon. "We are still seeking the public's assistance in identifying the man shown in these pictures, which were taken in April-May 2022. "The male is of a large build, scarring to the back of his head, prominent lips, hairy body, balding with short or shaved hair, and one distinctive tattoo on the left side of his chest at the time of the images. "The victim is a female in her 40s. There is no information to suggest there are any further victims in connection with this incident. " Senior investigating officer Detective Superintendent Geoff Smith said: 'This is a significant investigation with multiple suspects. 'We appreciate the graphic nature of these images and that they may be triggering to some people, however we need the public's help to identify this man. 'It is unknown whether he lives in Swindon or from outside the county, which is why we request that this is shared as widely as possible to assist our bid to identify him. Woman in her 20s dies day after crash that killed girl, six, and injured two others
A woman in her 20s has died from injuries sustained in a crash in Co Donegal which also killed a six-year-old girl and injured two others. The collision, involving a van and a car, took place on the R240 at Carrowmore in Glentogher, Carndonagh before 6.30pm on Wednesday. Irish police said on Wednesday that a six-year-old child had died and several other people had been injured. On Thursday, they said that the driver of the car, a woman aged in her 20s, died after being transported for treatment at Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast. Another girl, who was a rear passenger, is being treated for non-life-threatening injuries at Royal Victoria Hospital. A man in his 30s, who was the front seat passenger, is also being treated for non-life-threatening injuries at Altnagelvin Hospital, Londonderry. No other injuries were reported. An Garda Siochana is appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this collision to contact them. A spokesperson said: 'Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling in the area between 6pm and 6.30pm on Wednesday July 2 2025, are asked to make this footage available to investigating gardai. 'Anyone with information is asked to contact Buncrana Garda Station at 074 932 0540, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station.' The road was closed overnight pending a technical examination by Forensic Collision Investigators and local diversions were in place. The road has since reopened.
