Chandigarh: After PGI, Project Sarathi to be implemented in 1,467 hospitals
PGIMER deputy director (administration) Pankaj Rai detailed that with the joint backing of the Union ministries of health and family welfare, and youth affairs and sports, a total of 1,467 hospitals had been approved for the project under 'Seva Se Seekhen', an experiential learning programme (ELP) in health, modelled on the concept of PGIMER's Project Sarathi, as listed on the MyBharat portal.
As per the Union ministry of youth affairs and sports, the following states and UTs have either completed or have programmes ongoing based on the project's concept: Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Chandigarh, Chhattisgarh, Delhi, Goa, Gujarat, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Kerala, Lakshadweep, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Manipur, Meghalaya, Odisha, Puducherry, Punjab, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Tripura, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand.
Of the 1,467 hospitals, implementation of ELP has been completed at 551 hospitals between September 17, 2024, and May 31, 2025. ELP is currently ongoing at 95 hospitals of which 81 are permanent health ELPs.
Launched on May 5, 2024, Project Sarathi is a community service initiative aimed at improving patient experience by deploying student volunteers to assist in managing daily crowds, guiding patients within the hospital and easing OPD operations.
The initiative involves 6,444 volunteers nationwide. A total of 816 students from 18 institutions, including 10 colleges and eight schools, have contributed over 50,340 hours in providing hospital navigation and support services at PGIMER. These efforts have led to the reduction in average patient wait time from 4.2 hours to 2.8 hours, according to a post-implementation impact study by PGIMER's department of community medicine.

New Delhi: Union health minister Jagat Prakash Nadda and Delhi chief minister Rekha Gupta on Sunday distributed appointment letters to 1,388 nursing officers and 41 paramedical staff at a ceremony held at Vigyan Bhawan. He highlighted a Rs 1,700 crore budget allocated for the Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission, stating, "From 2021 to Feb 2025, not a single rupee of that budget was utilised. Through Ayushman Arogya Mandirs, we are ensuring free screenings for hypertension, diabetes, cancer, and more. This is a comprehensive and pre-emptive approach, far beyond earlier superficial initiatives like the Mohalla Clinics." CM Rekha Gupta said her govt approved the Ayushman Bharat scheme in its first cabinet meeting. "So far, over 4 lakh eligible citizens have registered, including 2 lakh senior citizens under the Vay Vandana Yojana. Over 2,258 patients have received free hospital treatment under the scheme," she added. Meanwhile, at a BJP event, Nadda digitally inaugurated six new district offices—Mehrauli, Outer Delhi, and West Delhi in the capital, and Jhajjar, Sirsa, and Kurukshetra in Haryana. The ceremony at the BJP headquarters extension was attended by senior leaders and thousands of party workers. BJP Delhi president Virendra Sachdeva called the day symbolic, coinciding with the birth anniversary of Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee. Sachdeva recalled the sacrifices of numerous party stalwarts who dedicated their lives to strengthen the organisation. Where once meetings required makeshift venues, today we are fortunate to have permanent district offices. These offices are not just structures—they are institutions for nurturing and training party workers, he said.

Delhi govt. appoints 1,388 nurses; rolls out Ayushman vans to strengthen health services
The Delhi government on Sunday (July 6, 2025) handed appointment letters to 1,388 nursing officers and 41 paramedical staff, and flagged off Ayushman Bharat registration vans to help eligible residents, especially from the weaker sections, to enrol for the Ayushman Bharat and Vaya Vandana Yojana schemes. At a ceremony held at Vigyan Bhawan, Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda called the appointments a 'historic initiative' that bridges a 15-year gap in Delhi's healthcare recruitment. 'This is not just a recruitment drive but a turning point, marking the beginning of a new era of specialist human resources in the Capital's healthcare system,' he said. Mr. Nadda said Delhi was now reaping the benefits of the Ayushman Bharat scheme, which the previous government had failed to implement. 'We are now moving from treatment to prevention. Ayushman Arogya Mandirs will offer free screening for multiple diseases. This is a holistic, sensitive and pre-emptive approach, far ahead of cosmetic schemes like Mohalla Clinics,' he said. 'Earlier, Delhi had only 0.42 hospital beds per 1,000 people. In 38 hospitals, there were just six MRI and 12 CT scan machines. Patients were regularly turned away due to medicine shortages,' she said. Highlighting her government's progress, Ms. Gupta said 34 Ayushman Arogya Mandirs have already been inaugurated, with many more coming up this month. 'We plan to add 100 Arogya Mandirs every month and aim to complete all 1,150 by March next year,' she said. Delhi Health Minister Pankaj Singh said more than 4 lakh people have been registered under Ayushman Bharat in the Capital, including over 2 lakh senior citizens above 70. 'Already, 2,258 patients have availed themselves of treatment under the scheme. Currently, 108 hospitals in Delhi are empanelled under Ayushman Bharat, and the number continues to grow,' he said.

CM irresponsible in saying Covid vax caused heart issues: Joshi
Hubballi: The rising incidence of heart attacks across the state has become a significant health concern. Following this, an expert committee appointed by the state govt concluded in their report that there is no linkage between heart attacks and Covid vaccination. Union minister Pralhad Joshi criticised CM Siddaramaiah , questioning his response to these findings. In a press conference here on Sunday, Joshi criticised the CM's "irresponsible attribution of heart attacks to Covid vaccines without proper investigation". He demanded the CM apologise to the nation and the scientific community. Joshi strongly denounced the CM's actions of questioning vaccine efficacy without reviewing expert findings, thereby disrespecting vaccine researchers and scientists. He insisted Siddaramaiah should publicly apologise to the country's scientific community. Regarding Siddaramaiah's vaccination status at 74, Joshi queried whether he received domestic or foreign vaccines. He referenced the expert committee's report led by Dr KS. Ravindranath of Jayadeva Institute, which clearly stated that there was no connection between vaccines and cardiac events.
