BBC star details 'horrific' car accident and says 'I should have died'
She's bravely showing how her PTSD and mental health issues won't be stopping her take on a once in the lifetime challenge. A contestant on the upcoming BBC gameshow Destination X has opened up about a near-fatal car crash that changed her perspective on life. The show, which will be hosted by Gavin and Stacey star Rob Brydon, is set to premiere next week with 13 contestants vying for a £100,000 prize. In what promises to be an epic adventure, reminiscent of The Traitors meets Race Across The World, the participants will traverse the continent without knowing their location or destination, deciphering truth from the clues, deceit, and lies presented to them. The diverse group includes an 11-time world record holder, a London cabbie who's conquered Mount Kilimanjaro and Mount Meru and rowed the Atlantic without prior experience, a pilot, a nuclear engineer, and a content creator. Among the competitors is Claire, a retired detective sergeant from West Sussex, who's eager to "go missing for a while" in this unique challenge, reports Wales Online. he 51-year-old from West Sussex is already physically prepared for the game after training in the army and police, having worked with the latter for 26 years. She's also had some adventurous experiences, as an HGV one lorry driver travelling through France and the Alps. But it's not just her professional and adventurous pursuits that define her; Claire has also survived a harrowing ordeal. She disclosed the details of a dreadful car accident she was involved in, describing the scene as "carnage". This brush with death nearly cost her life and has since led her to adopt a new outlook on life. Claire opened up about her past, sharing: "I was in a horrific car accident seven years ago and should have died which was a life changing experience. It made me look at life completely differently. They had to shut the road for six hours, there were four ambulances, five fire engines and it was carnage. My car was in the middle and they didn't expect me to be alive. But there I was." Now gearing up for Destination X, Claire is keen to tackle the show's challenges head-on, despite grappling with mental health issues. She continued: "I'm most excited about getting stuck into the challenges. I have got PTSD and the reason I'm doing this show is to say to the world that even though you might have mental health issues, you can still do it. But equally, I know my limitations. I'm excited about pushing myself to the absolute limit but will say no if I need to." The 10-episode competition will see the players travel on a bus with sensory deprivation and no contact with the outside world, as they're tasked with attempting to figure out where they could possibly be after being offered a series of bizarre clues to help them. Only the smartest will be able to decipher the red herrings from the truth behind the hints, and the players are slowly whittled down to the winner (who scores a £100,000 prize) as they guess their locations, with the contestant furthest away from where they really are being eliminated from the game. "It's the adventure of a lifetime, with one simple question at its heart: where in the world am I? Rob Brydon masterminds the high-stakes competition where nothing is as it seems...," the synopsis teases.

Inside England captain Leah Williamson's sweet summer holiday with Miss USA 'girlfriend'
Leah Williamson - captain of the England team and player for Arsenal - jetted off for a sweet summer holiday with rumoured girlfriend Elle Smith The Lionesses are primed to take on Spain in the UEFA Women's Euro Final 2025 - with captain Leah Williamson, 28, charged with leading her team to try and defeat the world champs. The final will take place in Basel, Switzerland, and will see the Lionesses defend their massive Euro 2022 win. With the last two games the England team played in this tournament featuring some dramatic, last-minute wins, the stakes couldn't be higher for UK football fans - and the final is likely to keep pulses racing. England boss Sarina Wiegman's huge personal sacrifice for family in UK Lioness super-sub Michelle Agyemang gears up for England games by playing piano Before taking on the major challenge of the tournament, captain Leah Williamson made sure to take some much-needed rest and relaxation with a holiday in Spain - ensuring she was fully charged up and ready to go for the professional feat. Leah went on the trip with former Miss USA Elle Smith, 27, who has long been rumoured to be the England captain's girlfriend. The model joined Leah - who posted a series of gorgeous snaps of her holiday on Instagram - for the break in the stunning Spanish island of Majorca. While they were there, the pair and pals enjoyed the sunshine, went for dinners, lounged on yachts, listened to a piano player by candlelight, and gave paddle boarding a go. Leah also included a video of herself undertaking some drills while she was away, clearly keen to keep up with her fitness regime ahead of the major tournament. They looked to have had a great time during their trip, as Elle commented on the post, "same time next year? x" and Leah quickly replied, "yes please." Elle, who previously worked as a journalist for WHAS-TV in Kentucky, is signed to the iconic agency Wilhelmina Models, and after winning the beauty pageant Miss Kentucky in 2021, she went on to win the overall Miss USA competition the same year - and came in the top 10 for Miss Universe shortly after. Earlier this year, Elle posted a sweet birthday tribute to Leah on her own Instagram page, of the pair chilling out on a sea float in the sunshine, and captioning it "Happy birthday my love x". Leah replied to the post with a series of emojis, including one of a blushing face hiding its smile - and a series of white hearts. Elle's page was quickly flooded with support, with several people noting that the birthday post seemed like something of a relationship "hard launch". When Leah, playing for Arsenal, won the Women's Champions League back in May, Elle quickly posted her support of the football player, sharing a series of snaps. In one, Leah sat on Elle's lap and showed off her medal, and in another, Elle held the trophy while Leah bit her medal, and the pair both beamed.

TV tonight: Raquel Welch's son and showbiz friends tell her real story
9pm, Sky Documentaries Raquel Welch was a single mother with two small kids when she pulled up in Hollywood. She is best known as the biggest sex symbol of the era but this celebratory film whizzes through her life to tell her full story: from feeling pressure to hide her Latina roots to that famous fur-bikini poster, her complicated relationship with feminism, two Golden Globe wins and suing MGM for $10m for replacing her with a younger actor. Her son and showbiz friends share their memories. Hollie Richardson 6.20pm, BBC One Get ready to shout answers at the telly as Marvin and Rochelle Humes guide another three teams through the fun and fizzy pop quiz. Only the fastest duo will make it to the Chart Rundown round, where naming 10 bangers in quick succession could win them £10,000. Graeme Virtue 6.30pm, Channel 4 Will the Yorkshire Shepherdess, Amanda Owen, and her family manage to turn their abandoned farmhouse into a 21st-century home? We're now into the second series of their attempt, with separated husband Clive being laid low by a hip operation and the process being extended by planning permission to make the house bigger just having been granted. Alexi Duggins 8pm, Channel 5 If you've ever been interested in the Princess Royal's equestrian career, well … here's a whole 90 minutes dedicated to telling you all about it. She once competed in the Olympics – the first royal to do so! – and is the president of the Riding for the Disabled Association. HR 9pm, ITV2 Having spent the summer narrating both the US and UK versions of Love Island, Iain Stirling is surely due a break of his own. It's not quite time for a Jet2 holiday yet, though – there's still one more week of contractually obligated fun in the sun, starting with this compilation. Hannah J Davies Midnight, ITV1 The cat-and-mouse thriller about a random group of strangers being framed for a violent kidnapping continues. There are potential answers in New York but can the amateur fugitives keep it together long enough to escape the UK? The fact that their plan requires reliable train wifi does not bode well. Graeme Virtue Rumours, 1.15pm, 10.15pm, Sky Cinema Premiere A few weeks ago, Prime Video gave us Heads of State. A rollicking, deliberately dumb action movie about the US president and the British prime minister, Heads of State looked as if it was going to be the weirdest political film of the year. Turns out it wasn't even the weirdest of the summer, because here is Rumours. With three writer-directors, including Guy Maddin, it's a film about a G7 summit that finds itself being terrorised by marauding bog-zombies and, odder still, a giant brain. The fact that Cate Blanchett plays the German chancellor and Charles Dance the US president makes it stranger still. Highly silly and very funny, it's not something you are likely to forget in a hurry. Stuart Heritage Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile, 2pm, BBC One Last year's vaguely nightmarish Harold and the Purple Crayon is an example of the pitfalls of attempting to stretch a children's picture book to feature length. With that in mind, 2022's Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile is a miracle. Based on a slight 1965 kids' book, Will Speck and Josh Gordon's film is an unexpected delight. There is a crocodile, he can sing, and all hell breaks loose. Not only are the songs (by The Greatest Showman's Benj Pasek and Justin Paul) genuinely good, but Javier Bardem gives one of the performances of his life as Lyle's unreliable owner. SH Fallen Leaves, 9.45pm, BBC Four As is to be expected – nay required – from the master of dour, deadpan humour, in Aki Kaurismäki's latest romantic comedy his two lonely, Helsinki-based central characters struggle to express their feelings. The potential match of Ansa (Alma Pöysti) and Holappa (Jussi Vatanen) is further stymied by him losing her number, his struggles with alcoholism and their shared inability to hold on to a job. Not a laugh-a-minute plot description, admittedly, but being immersed in the director's peculiarly Finnish world makes you wish the pair the best of an imperfect life.
