Adani Airport rolls out digital lounge access, cuts intermediaries

Adani Airport Holdings on Thursday announced that passengers across India can now access airport lounges directly through its platform, removing the need for intermediaries. The service is being launched in collaboration with multiple lounge operators, the company's chief executive Arun Bansal mentioned on LinkedIn.
'Passengers across India can now access lounges directly through our platform in partnership with other lounge operators. This means no intermediaries – only seamless, a world class experience delivered directly to our consumers,' Bansal said.
He linked the development to broader trends in India's digital transformation. 'India is at the global forefront of digital innovation. UPI has transformed the lives of a billion Indians, revolutionising how we transact every day and accelerating our journey to becoming the third-largest economy in the world,' he said.
He said the company's in-house Digital Lab team led the new initiative. The move is part of Adani Group's broader push to digitise passenger services across its airport network.
According to a report from last month by Bloomberg, the group is also gearing up to list its airports unit by 2027, as part of an ambitious growth plan that entails investing $100 billion across businesses over the next few years.
Currently, Adani Airport Holdings, the largest private-sector airport operator in India, is a wholly owned subsidiary of Adani Enterprises Ltd. According to the report, the company plans to spend $100 billion in five to six years across its businesses.
Shares of Adani Enterprises were trading at ₹2,618.25 apiece at 1.51 pm at the BSE on Thursday.

Resumption of FII buying hinges on India-US trade deal, Q1 results

Mumbai: Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) have turned cautious this month ahead of the potential India-US trade deal announcement and upcoming Q1 FY26 results, analysts said on Saturday. FIIs were net buyers in the last two months, buying Rs 18,082 and Rs 8,466 worth of shares in May and June, respectively. However, the trend seems to have faded in the current month. The FII activity in early July indicates selling. In the first four days, FIIs were sellers every day, with a cumulative sell figure of Rs 5,772 crore. 'Resumption of FII buying will hinge on two things — one, if a trade deal happens between India and the US, that will be positive for markets and FII flows — and two, Q1 FY26 result indications," said VK Vijayakumar, Chief Investment Strategist, Geojit Investments Limited. It will be good if the results show a recovery in earnings. If these factors are not met, it may affect the market and FII flows, he added. On Friday, FIIs offloaded Rs 8,277.90 crore, while domestic institutional investors sold shares worth Rs 11,334.32 crore, according to the latest data available on BSE. FIIs purchased shares in financials, cars and auto parts, and the oil and gas sector in the second half of June. They sold equities in power and capital goods companies. Profit booking is a trend in recent high-performing segments. Meanwhile, ahead of the pivotal July 9 US-India trade deadline, investors remain cautious, resulting in the Indian equity markets ending the week lower. The Sensex and the Nifty, two benchmark indices, fell 0.7 per cent each as profit booking following the recent rally and global uncertainty continued to taint overall market sentiment. The Sensex closed the week at 83,432.89. The Nifty ended the week at 25,461. The week began with a robust breakout for the indices, but worries about a potential hold-up in finalising trade agreements caused the momentum to wane.

India ranks among top world's most equal societies, says World Bank report: What does it mean?

New Delhi [India], July 5 (ANI): India has emerged as one of the most equal societies globally, with a Gini Index of 25.5, according to the latest data from the World Bank. Ranking fourth worldwide in income equality, India now stands just behind the Slovak Republic, Slovenia, and Belarus. "It reflects how India's economic progress is being shared more evenly across its population. Behind this success is a consistent policy focus on reducing poverty, expanding financial access, and delivering welfare support directly to those who need it most," a release from the Social Welfare said. The Gini Index, a key measure of income distribution where 0 represents perfect equality and 100 denotes maximum inequality, places India ahead of advanced economies, including China (35.7), the United States (41.8), and all G7 and G20 countries. India's score has improved from 28.8 in 2011, reflecting steady progress in equitable growth. The country's strong performance in reducing poverty has played a central role in achieving greater equality. The World Bank's Spring 2025 Poverty and Equity Brief reports that 171 million Indians were lifted out of extreme poverty between 2011 and 2023. The poverty rate fell sharply from 16.2 per cent to just 2.3 per cent during this period, based on the USD 2.15 per day global poverty threshold. The release also highlights upon, government initiatives have underpinned this transformation. Flagship programs like PM Jan Dhan Yojana have expanded financial inclusion, with over 55 crore bank accounts. Aadhaar, India's digital ID system, now covers more than 142 crore individuals, streamlining welfare delivery through Direct Benefit Transfers, which saved ₹ 3.48 lakh crore by March 2023. Healthcare equity has also improved through Ayushman Bharat, which provides ₹ 5 lakh health coverage to families and has issued over 41 crore cards. The Stand-Up India scheme supports SC/ST and women entrepreneurs, while the PM Vishwakarma Yojana backs artisans with loans and training. PMGKAY, India's food security scheme, has benefited over 80 crore citizens, it added. (ANI)
