If you've been paying attention to the summer offseason workouts for the Ohio State football team, or reading our stuff here, then you know the team has been going through a little friendly competition called the "June Olympics." It's a competition between the players and staff to see who can bring home the most wins in various competitions with a champion being crowned at the end.
We weren't too sure when the end of the "feats of athletic endeavors" between the old guys and the young pups were going to be over, or even what events would be a part of all the hoopla, but we were informed today that the last competition took place by way of half-court shots. Going into the last event, things were all knotted up at 5 to 5, just like you'd want it, so the winner of the long bombs from half-court would get the bragging rights.
And, unfortunately for those of us who are competing with Father Time ourselves, the younger players won the half-court shooting competition and took the title of the "June Olympics" with a final 6 to 5 score. You can check out the highlights below. By the looks of it, it took just one shot to win it after several airballs and misfires. Watch as the shot goes through the bottom of the net for the players to claim supremacy.
As if the youth in the building didn't have enough talking to do, now the elder statesmen in the program will have to live with the loss until next summer when we see if the "June Olympics" make another appearance.

Former star Alabama pitcher released by MLB team
After being designated for assignment by the organization a few days ago, former Alabama Crimson Tide pitcher Spencer Turnbull has been officially released by the Toronto Blue Jays, per the team's MLB transactions' page. Prior to his release, Turnbull had made only three appearances with the Blue Jays so far this season, one of which was a start. Over that sample size, which was 6.1 innings pitched, the right-hander owned a 1-1 record with a 7.11 ERA and a 4:4 K:BB ratio. The former Alabama right-hander also made five starts in the minor leagues this season with Toronto's organization where he owned a 7.13 ERA across 17.2 innings pitched. Following his release by Toronto, Turnbull will now reenter free agency where the veteran right-hander will look for a new team. Advertisement Then came the NFL Draft ... and in the eyes of the league? The option was that he deserved only to be the 231st pick in the seventh round of the NFL Draft. What's next for the Texas Longhorns star? The notion that he could someday spark a quarterback controversy in his new job with the Miami Dolphins might sound far-fetched, but to us, it's not as crazy as it seems. Ewers has never been labeled an 'underdog.' From the moment he stepped onto a football field, he was a star. As just a sophomore, he became the starting quarterback at Southlake Carroll, one of the most prestigious high school football programs in the country. His dominant run at the high school level earned him five-star status and the crown of No. 1 overall recruit in the 2021 class, leading to his commitment to Ohio State. His time as a Buckeye was short-lived. After one year of sitting behind C.J. Stroud, Ewers made the decision to return home and transfer to the University of Texas. Advertisement In Austin, head coach Steve Sarkisian handed Ewers the keys to the program, and he delivered. Over the next three seasons, he helped lead Texas back to national relevance, winning a Big 12 Championship, earning two College Football Playoff appearances, and racking up 9,128 passing yards and 76 total touchdowns. So it leads to the questions: How did a quarterback with that resume fall all the way to the seventh round, becoming the last quarterback selected in the 2025 NFL Draft? He led one of college football's premier programs back to prominence, what more could teams possibly want? Well ... it's complicated, and maybe even a little controversial. During Ewers' time at Texas, the Longhorns landed yet another No. 1 overall recruit in 2023, Arch Manning. Football royalty, Manning is the nephew of Peyton and Eli Manning and grandson of Archie Manning. As expected, the hype was enormous. College football fans became fixated on the future, with constant calls for Manning to take the field. Any time Arch subbed in for special packages, the crowd erupted — often louder than it did for Ewers himself. Advertisement Fair or not, the narrative started to shift. Despite all that, Ewers remained one of the bigger names in college football. So why did the NFL pass on him for six and a half rounds? His agent, Ron Slavin, put it bluntly to ESPN. 'They thought he was a third- or fourth-round pick,'' Slavin said, "but too big of a name to be a clipboard holder.' In other words, some teams were scared off by Ewers' stature. No front office wants its starting quarterback constantly looking over his shoulder as fans and media clamor for the backup — especially if that backup has a bigger name than the starter. It's the exact situation Ewers experienced at Texas. Advertisement Now, Ewers finds himself in Miami, projected as the third-string quarterback behind Tua Tagovailoa and Zach Wilson. On paper, it sounds like a developmental role. But reality paints a different picture. Tua has struggled with durability, missing 14 games over his first four NFL seasons, while Zach Wilson has bounced around the league struggling with consistency. As the season approaches, the idea of Quinn Ewers getting meaningful snaps in 2025 isn't as far-fetched as it once seemed. Tyler Boyd says he'd ‘absolutely' play for Steelers — could Pittsburgh bring the WR home?
The Steelers' next wide receiver might've just revealed himself — as free-agent WR Tyler Boyd recently discussed the opportunity to play for Pittsburgh. Boyd may have spent eight seasons as a Bengal, but the born-and-raised yinzer welcomed a return to Pittsburgh when asked if he'd play for the Steelers: "Absolutely," Boyd told Pittsburgh Sports Now. "You know, all my family is here. I'd be able to have the majority of them be able to support me.' He added more fuel to a speculative Steelers signing, stating that his relationship with HC Mike Tomlin goes way back to his days as a Pitt Panther: "I'm real cool with Tomlin,' Boyd said. 'He's always been a good person. We always wrapped it up. When I was at Pitt, we had a good relationship.' Boyd signed a one-year deal with the Titans in 2024 but struggled to make an impact on his team, accumulating 390 receiving yards and zero touchdowns on just 39 receptions — a far cry from his days as a 1,000-yard receiver on the Bengals. The Aaron Rodgers-led Steelers could really use the presence of a bona fide slot receiver — and Boyd could use the opportunity to prove he still has more left in the tank in his hometown.
