Sultan Bin Ahmed attends UoS' graduation ceremony
Sheikh Sultan Bin Ahmed presented the degrees to the graduates from all bachelor's programmes in the Colleges of Sharia and Islamic Studies, Humanities and Social Sciences, Business Administration, Engineering, Law, Fine Arts and Design, Communication, Science, Computing and Informatics, and Public Policy.
He congratulated the graduates and wished them success in their future endeavours.
The ceremony began with the national anthem of the UAE, followed by verses from the Holy Quran.
Dr Issam Al Din Ibrahim Ajami, Chancellor of the University of Sharjah, delivered a speech expressing gratitude to Sultan Bin Ahmed for his presence and ongoing support for the university and its students. He congratulated the graduates and their families, emphasising that this day is a celebration of their academic achievements, which resulted from their commitment to education and the support of their families and professors.
Dr Ajami noted that University of Sharjah is celebrating the graduation of a distinguished group of female students from various colleges, representing the pillars of cultural development, national growth, and future excellence.
He explained that this ceremony marks the conclusion of this year's graduation celebrations and highlighted key statistics achieved by the university since its founding by His Highness Dr Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, in 1997.
Over 48,000 graduates have completed their studies, many of whom hold leadership positions and contribute to the development of their communities both within the UAE and abroad. He mentioned that 65% of the university's students and alumni are female, demonstrating the pivotal role and significant presence of women in the university's journey.
Dr Ajami stated that UOS coordinates constructively with higher education institutions in the emirate.
The university actively contributes to achieving the vision of the Emirate of Sharjah and the UAE by implementing developmental projects and activities, alongside close collaboration with relevant federal bodies and ministries.
He emphasised the university's commitment to communication and cooperation with higher education and research institutions worldwide to ensure the excellence, quality, and modernity of its programmes and activities.
This approach aims to keep pace with rapid developments and technologies, benefiting the community directly, contributing effectively to analysing its issues, finding suitable solutions, and ensuring outstanding and sustainable performance.
Dr Ajami addressed the graduates, stating, 'Your journey at this university has been filled with knowledge and learning, characterised by determination and hard work, rooted in strong values of seeking knowledge, excellence, and ambition for a bright future. Your graduation today is not the end of the road but the beginning of a new era in which you will bear the responsibility of actively contributing to building the nation and elevating society. Each of your colleges has played an effective role in serving and developing the community in essential fields that any society cannot do without.'
He added, 'You are the mothers of the future and the educators of the coming generations. I congratulate you on this achievement and remind you of the greatest role that awaits you-the role of a mother, the creator of humanity, the educator of generations, and the guardian of values and meanings. An aware and educated mother is the cornerstone in building a generation capable of facing challenges, anchored in its values, open to the world, and committed to its identity.' Dr Ajami concluded his speech by expressing his gratitude and appreciation to the faculty for all they have provided in terms of knowledge and guidance, as well as the values and skills they have instilled in the students.

Engineer Yousef Khamis Al Othmani, Chairman of the Roads and Transport Authority, expressed pride in the graduation of 19 inspectors from the inaugural Road and Traffic Inspection diploma. He noted that the program equips participants with advanced skills that set them apart from general inspection staff, aligning with global best practices in infrastructure and road safety. Al Othmani stressed that the initiative is preparing a new generation of technical inspectors ready to excel in field inspection and safety, reflecting the authority's ongoing investment in national talent. In his turn, His Excellency Obaid Saeed Al Tunaiji, Director General of Sharjah Municipality, described the diploma as a qualitative leap in training field employees and inspectors, enhancing their expertise and creating significant opportunities for improvement across municipal operations. 26 June 2025 19:35 ABU DHABI (ALETIHAD)Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler's Representative in Al Dhafra Region, the General Authority of Islamic Affairs, Endowments & Zakat has launched the Al Dhafra Memoriser and Reciter Quran Competition 2025. The competition aims to spread the messages and wisdom of the Holy Quran and reward those who embody its core values through memorisation and recitation. Organised by the General Authority of Islamic Affairs, Endowments & Zakat, the competition will be accepting applications from July 2025 7-25 in various categories, including People of Determination and Emirati mothers, encouraging future generations to memorise the Holy Quran and live by its messages.

ALA magazine celebrates the 'Quranic Discourse'
The magazine addressed the transformations that Arabic is seeing in global educational settings, in light of the increasing demand for Arabic learning in Europe, Asia, and Latin America. Meanwhile, the continued reliance on traditional curricula in teaching Arabic to non-native speakers, curricula that lack approaches that take into account the cultural and linguistic specificities of the Arabic language. The new issue of the magazine also featured diverse scholarly articles, combining research in linguistics and lexicography, along with studies in grammar and functional linguistics, biographies of prominent Arabic speakers, and literary and critical texts that align with the Academy's aspirations to consolidate the scientific and intellectual status of Arabic. The issue's editorial, written by Dr. Muhammad Safi Al Mustaghanemi, Secretary-General of ALA, was titled "Describing the Prophet's Status... Reflections on His Morals and Characteristics'. Al Mustaghanemi recorded emotional and linguistic reflections on the greatness of the personality of the Noble Prophet. In the section "Views on Quranic Rhetoric," researcher Dr. Asma Muhammad presented a study titled "The Ottoman Script: Its Definition and Scholars' Opinions." In his article "Pronoun Reference and Its Impact on the Interpretation of Qur'anic Discourse," researcher Dr. Abdelali Mahjoubi presented an analysis of the phenomenon of reference in interpretation, explaining how Imam Ibn Attiya of Andalusia relied on the pronoun as an interpretive element that links words and meanings. Researcher Muhammad Al Sheikh also examined the phenomenon of "explicitly mentioning the name of the Prophet Muhammad in only five places in the Holy Quran." Dr. Adel Al Ruwaini addressed the significance of the letter "fa" in legislative contexts. Linguistic and Lexical Glimpses In a study titled "Linguistic Glimpses on Supplication in Arabic," Dr. Safwat El Sayed presented a reading of the linguistic styles of supplication forms in the Arabic heritage. Under the heading "Lexicography," Dr. Mahmoud Helmy presented a study titled "The Role of Linguistic Dictionaries in Preserving and Interpreting Quranic and Prophetic Words." Dr. Ayman El Tayeb Naji discussed "Definition in the Arabic Lexicon: Al-Munjid and Al-Wasit as a Model." Dr. Moulay Abdelmalek wrote a study on the root (q-n-n), demonstrating the richness of its connotations and their development across eras and texts. Critical Studies and Articles In the "Books and Studies" section, the issue celebrates Dr. Saeed Al Fallaq's study, "Abu Tammam in the Mirror of News Criticism: A Reading of Abu Bakr al-Suli's Book 'Akhbar Abu Tammam'," in addition to the study "The Rhetoric of Narration in the Stories of the Holy Qur'an," written by researcher Hiba Hisham. She reviewed the book, which won the Sharjah Award for Linguistic and Lexical Studies, by Mustafa Rajwan.
