2 women arrested with heroin in Mizoram

Aizawl, Jul 30 (PTI) At least two women, including a Myanmar national, were arrested with over 350 gm of heroin in east Mizoram's Champhai district on Wednesday, an official said.
During an operation at Ruantlang village in the district, personnel of the Excise and Narcotics Department, assisted by volunteers of the Central Young Mizo Association (CYMA), seized 350.6 gram of heroin from the possession of the two women, he said.
The duo was arrested and booked under various sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985, spokesperson of the department, Peter Zohmingthanga, said.

Punjab: SAD leader Majithia's judicial custody extended
A court in Punjab's Mohali district on Saturday extended the judicial custody of Shiromani Akali Dal leader Bikram Singh Majithia, who was arrested in a disproportionate assets case, till August who is housed in New Nabha jail in Patiala, was produced before the court through video conferencing. The Punjab Vigilance Bureau had arrested the Shiromani Akali Dal leader on June 25. He was sent to judicial custody on July 6 and his remand was later extended on July 18. According to the FIR registered by the Vigilance Bureau, its preliminary investigation has revealed that more than Rs 540 crore worth of "drug money" was laundered in several ways and Majithia had allegedly facilitated it. The Vigilance Bureau's FIR against Majithia stemmed from an investigation being carried out by a Punjab Police Special Investigation Team into a 2021 drug case. In 2021, Majithia was booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, on the basis of a 2018 report of the anti-drug Special Task had spent more than five months in Patiala jail and walked out of prison in August 2022 after the Punjab and Haryana High Court granted him bail.

5 held as Delhi Police busts Rs 10-lakh counterfeit auto parts racket
Last Updated: New Delhi, Aug 2 (PTI) The Delhi Police has busted a large-scale racket involved in the manufacturing and sale of counterfeit automobile spare parts and engine oil, arresting five people and seizing fake products worth over Rs 10 lakh, an official said on Saturday. The operation targeted two premises — Karol Bagh and Madanpur Dabas — where counterfeit items bearing trademarks of reputed brands like Honda, TVS and ASK were being produced and stored, according to an official statement by police. The raids were conducted following intelligence about the counterfeit trade, which was later verified in coordination with legal representatives of the affected automobile companies, a senior police officer said. A case was registered under the relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Copyright Act at the Crime Branch police station. 'Large quantities of duplicate engine oil bottles, packaging materials, branding stickers and even machinery used for sealing and packaging were recovered during the raids," Harsh Indora, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch), said. Among those arrested was Shubham Panjiyar (29), a resident of Uttam Nagar, who has a prior history in a similar case registered at Nihal Vihar. During interrogation, he confessed to being involved in the illegal trade since 2020. He also provided information to the police about other co-accused who were later apprehended. The other arrested individuals have been identified as Himanshu Kawatara, a trader from Karol Bagh; Naveen alias Deepak Taneja, Panjiyar's brother-in-law; Ramakant Chaurasiya, a supplier of fake bottles; and Shyam Narayan, who provided counterfeit packaging materials. 'The police recovered hundreds of fake items, including over 7,000 counterfeit cap foils and 2,850 bottle caps bearing the Honda brand logo, more than 3,400 TVS-branded caps and nearly 2,800 empty bottles, 1,400 brake shoes marked with the ASK logo and a bottle cap sealing machine used in the illegal operations," the DCP added. Prosecutors say kids at camp sickened by sedatives in candy; 76-year-old charged
London, Aug 2 (AP) A 76-year-old man appeared in a court in central England on Saturday to face child cruelty charges after several boys at a summer camp were sickened by what prosecutors say was candy laced with sedatives. Jon Ruben was ordered detained until a hearing on Aug 29. He did not enter a plea during the brief hearing at Leicester Magistrates' Court. Police say they received a report on Sunday that children had fallen sick at Stathern Lodge, a converted farmhouse with a sports hall and catering facilities about 120 miles (190 km) north of London. Eight boys between 8 and 11 and one adult were taken to a hospital as a precaution. All were later discharged. Ruben was arrested on Monday at a pub near the lodge. Ruben, whose home address is about 15 miles (24 km) from the lodge, faces three charges of 'wilfully assaulting, ill-treating, neglecting, abandoning or exposing children in a manner likely to cause them unnecessary suffering or injury to health," relating to three boys at the camp. The lodge is owned by Braithwaite Gospel Trust, a Christian charity. Police stressed that the owners 'are independent from those people who use or hire the lodge and are not connected to the incident".
