Robinhood grows its global crypto footprint with U.S. stock tokens for the EU
The last time he lived around Cannes, he was 21 — with no connections, no funding, and no formal business training. But he had a knack for programming and a drive to solve real-world problems.
Kerbrat quit his job just before starting university in nearby Nice, and soon after launched his first fintech startup: a no-code payments company built from scratch to help small merchants create e-commerce sites without hiring developers.
"It was in my little studio — probably smaller than your bathroom," he said. "Initially, we didn't have any employees, but it was right at the beginning of e-commerce. Back then, if you were a merchant you didn't really have an option, you had to hire an agency and spend tens of thousands of euros. The idea was to let people build their own thing without any technical knowledge — kind of what Shopify is doing now."
But the timing was right. The early 2010s brought a boom in online commerce, and Kerbrat's tool gave small merchants a chance to compete. It also opened his eyes to how fragile and expensive the global financial system really was.
A classmate from Greece told him how his family's bank accounts had been frozen during the eurozone crisis. Around the same time, merchants using his platform were struggling with high fees, chargebacks, and fraud. And then the Bitcoin white paper landed.
"I was like, 'Okay, that's a solution for everything,' " he said
Now, from Château de la Croix des Gardes, a Belle Époque mansion perched along the same coastline where he once lived and worked the night shift in fast food, he's part of the most ambitious crypto product suite in Robinhood's history.
On Monday the company announced an expanded offering of tokenized U.S. stocks and ETFs across Europe, crypto staking in the U.S., perpetual futures for eligible EU traders, and a new Layer 2 blockchain optimized for real-world asset settlement and 24/7 trading.
"It's absolutely surreal," he said, seated inside the iconic Carlton Hotel — a five-star landmark that once felt impossibly out of reach. "When I was younger, I used to walk past this place — and I could have never, never stayed here."
The announcement coincides with the Ethereum Community Conference, hosted in Cannes for the first time, and Robinhood's latest regulatory approvals across Europe.
Robinhood's latest move is its most serious push yet to blend traditional finance with blockchain-based infrastructure.
Kerbrat said the goal isn't to dazzle with features. It's to make crypto disappear into the background. He likened it to plumbing.
"You don't think about how water gets to your tap," he said. "You just expect it to be there."
But there is still plumbing to build out.
At the heart of Monday's launch are tokenized U.S. stocks and ETFs, now available to customers in 30 EU and European Economic Area countries. The tokens — built first on Arbitrum — offer 24/5 access, dividend support, and zero commission or spread from Robinhood. Eventually, they'll migrate to a custom Layer 2 blockchain built to support tokenized assets, seamless bridging, and self-custody.
In the U.S., Robinhood is debuting staking for Ethereum and Solana, allowing users to earn rewards by supporting network operations. In Europe, crypto perpetual futures will offer eligible users up to 3x leverage, routed through Bitstamp. Other upgrades include smart exchange routing, tax lot management, and advanced charting tools — all designed to make crypto feel as seamless and intuitive as trading stocks.
Shares of Robinhood are up over 100% this year.
"When we talk about mass adoption," Kerbrat said, "This is what it looks like. A product people use — without needing to know how it works."
For Kerbrat, who spent his adolescence between Cannes and Nice, the return isn't just symbolic. It's a measure of how far he's come — and how much still feels the same.
His father worked in IT. His mother stayed home with him and his sister. One day, his dad brought home a clunky old Apple computer with a black-and-white screen and that was the spark. By 7, he was experimenting. By 11, he was programming regularly. And by 17, he was already trying to fix the broken parts of the internet economy he saw around him.
His parents, now living further inland, drove in just in time to watch the launch. They remember the early days, he said — the tiny apartment, the first lines of code, the endless conversations with merchants who didn't quite believe his pitch — that anyone could build an e-commerce site without knowing how to code.
"We chose Cannes because of licensing, and because the conference was here," he said. "But I'm not going to pretend it doesn't feel good."
He paused, letting the moment settle.
"I never thought I'd be back here like this."

Which cryptocurrency will boom in the second half of 2025?
Despite all the hype and euphoria that surrounded the crypto market in January, only a handful of top cryptocurrencies are actually up for the year. So crypto investors will need to count on a few big comebacks over the next six months. My top three candidates for a cryptocurrency that will boom in the second half of 2025 are Bitcoin (CRYPTO: BTC), Ethereum (CRYPTO: ETH) and Tron (CRYPTO: TRX). Bitcoin Bitcoin is a no-brainer. It's already one of the top-performing cryptos of the year, and has received significant support from the Trump administration over the past few months. The big move by the White House, of course, was the creation of the Strategic Bitcoin Reserve in March. That essentially gave the green light to institutional investors to ramp up their Bitcoin strategies going forward. One surprising development this year has seen the unprecedented growth of Bitcoin treasury companies. The goal of these companies is simple: buy up as much Bitcoin as they possibly can, as fast as they can, as cheaply as they can. These companies are following the lead of Strategy (NASDAQ: MSTR), the largest corporate holder of Bitcoin in the world, which rebranded as a Bitcoin treasury company in February. The big question, of course, is just how much higher Bitcoin can go this year, even with all this new demand. The world's top cryptocurrency turned in triple-digit returns in both 2023 and 2024, and many crypto investors were expecting Bitcoin to turn in a similar performance this year. But Bitcoin is only up 14% for the year. So it will need a massive year-end rally to reach the much-hyped $200,000 price level. Ethereum Ethereum may be down more than 25% year to date, but new rules on staking could change that. "Staking" is a popular way of earning yield on cryptocurrency holdings, and has been the subject of much controversy since early 2023, when the SEC launched an investigation into staking activity. As a result, when the new spot Ethereum ETFs launched in July 2024, they did not include a staking component. That's why these ETFs underperformed when they launched, according to insiders. However, the pro-crypto approach of the Trump administration quickly led to a shakeup at the SEC earlier this year, and the thinking now is that government regulators will back down on staking. As a result, spot Ethereum ETFs will likely be allowed to offer staking, and that could lead to a tsunami of new money moving into Ethereum. Crypto investors point to sustained buying of Ethereum by BlackRock, the company behind the popular iShares Ethereum Trust. Over the past few weeks, BlackRock has been buying Ethereum hand over fist, and that's because it is likely expecting an imminent SEC decision on staking. Tron Tron is the real dark horse candidate. Even though Tron currently ranks among the top 10 cryptocurrencies in terms of market cap, chances are most U.S.-based investors are not familiar with it. That's because the founder of Tron is Justin Sun, a controversial Chinese crypto billionaire who has had numerous run-ins with U.S. regulatory authorities. Heading into 2025, he was still facing potential SEC investigations. As a result, it can sometimes be hard to find U.S.-based cryptocurrency exchanges where you can buy and sell Tron. But here's the thing: Justin Sun is now affiliated with the growing Trump crypto empire. In mid-2024, he made a significant investment into World Liberty Financial, the crypto venture affiliated with the Trump family. In January 2025, he immediately scooped up $75 million of the new Official Trump meme coin and later purchased even more of the meme coin, leading to his being able to attend the Trump meme coin dinner with the president. And he has continually found ways to establish ties with members of the Trump family, to the point where Eric Trump recently called him "a great friend and icon in the crypto space." In late February 2025, the SEC sent a request to the court overseeing its civil fraud case against Sun, asking for a 60-day stay to explore settlement proceedings. Now, Sun is going into overdrive to build out his Tron crypto empire. In June, he announced a reverse merger with publicly traded SRM Entertainment, which will rebrand itself as "Tron Inc." and transform into a Tron treasury company (i.e., primarily holding Tron as its sole asset). He's also partnered with World Liberty Financial on a new stablecoin project. I completely understand if all this seems a bit speculative, and perhaps even a bit unsavory. However, the whole point of this exercise was to find cryptocurrencies that might "boom" in the second half of 2025. And I can't think of another cryptocurrency that has a similar opportunity to completely reinvent itself in the second half of the year. And the top pick is... If forced to choose between Bitcoin, Ethereum or Tron, my top pick is still Bitcoin. It's the world's most popular cryptocurrency for a reason — in terms of mainstream adoption, no other cryptocurrency even comes close. Bitcoin might not double in value this year, but I'm still expecting it to boom within the next few months. Dominic Basulto has positions in Bitcoin and Ethereum. Why KULR Technology Stock Is Skyrocketing Today
KULR stock has been highly volatile since the announcement and enactment of its 8-for-1 reverse stock split. The stock is still down big since the announcement of the reverse split, but there have been days when the stock has seen big pops. KULR is becoming much more focused on building an investment position in Bitcoin. 10 stocks we like better than KULR Technology Group › KULR Technology (NYSEMKT: KULR) stock is posting another day of big gains in Monday trading. The company's share price was up 12% as of 3:45 p.m. EDT. KULR stock had been up as much as 15.7% earlier in the session. After some initial volatility related to the announcement of its since-completed reverse stock split (which went into effect June 23), KULR stock has seen some recovery in rebound trading. The company's bet on Bitcoin (CRYPTO: BTC) has seemingly helped support the rally. On June 13, KULR announced that it would be carrying out an 8-for-1 reverse stock split. The announcement corresponded with a big sell-off for its stock, but the move allowed the company to continue trading on the NYSE American Market exchange. KULR is still down big from where it was trading before the reverse stock split news, but shares have also seen days of big upward volatility in subsequent trading as investors battle it on the valuation, and react to Bitcoin pricing fluctuations and trends shaping the broader market. KULR appears to be making investments in Bitcoin central to its long-term strategy. Earlier this month, the company announced that it had joined the Bitcoin for Corporations initiative headed up by Strategy -- a company that has seen big success after pivoting to a Bitcoin-focused business. With its heavy focus on Bitcoin, KULR stock can be expected to make moves in conjunction with shifts in the cryptocurrency's token price. If Bitcoin continues its rally, KULR stock could see significant upside above current levels. On the other hand, KULR's pivot to Bitcoin is still a relatively recent development, and the company comes with other financial and operational baggage that could weigh on its stock performance. Trump-linked firm raises $220M, plans for IPO launch
Trump-linked firm raises $220M, plans for IPO launch originally appeared on TheStreet. A cryptocurrency firm linked to President Donald Trump's family has raised $220 million to further explore Bitcoin mining. In a filing made on Monday, the firm, known as American Bitcoin, increased its investment by selling new stock to private investors. According to reports, approximately $10 million of the latest stock was funded with Bitcoin instead of dollars. Eric Trump, one of the president's sons, endorses the company, which is getting a lot of attention very fast. Eric and his brother, Donald Trump Jr., have both been involved in crypto ventures, primarily as their father aims for the U.S. to become "the crypto capital of the world."American Bitcoin was a newly created entity through a Trump-backed investment bank. Its majority owner, Hut 8 Corp, contributed its mining equipment for an 80-percent interest in the new venture. The next step is to take American Bitcoin public by merging with Gryphon Digital Mining Inc., a second crypto firm. The $220 million investment has garnered headlines, but Hut 8 also disclosed separate plans to expand to Dubai, which it stated was unrelated to its American Bitcoin 8 Corp., based in Miami, filed with the Dubai International Financial Center last week to launch its location. The company's spokesperson confirmed that it is assembling a team in Dubai to talk about trading and cryptocurrencies. Hut 8 states in its year-end report that it operates Bitcoin mining facilities in Alberta, Canada, as well as in New York and Texas. So far, Hut 8 has not publicly discussed the share sale or more details about the venture. At press time Hut 8 stock's price stands at 18.60, up nearly 6% in the last 24 hours.
