Cole discusses the era he's running in and how this period compares to what's gone before. He explains the impact that Steve Prefontaine had on him growing up, from watching videos of his races to drawing inspiration from his quotes. Bearing all of that in mind, Cole gives us a real insight into his decision to attend the University of Oregon in Eugene – meaning he'd be joining the same college track team which produced Prefontaine and so many others. What was it like to embrace that opportunity and the inevitable pressure that came with it?
Paris was Cole's second Olympic Games. Had Tokyo gone ahead as planned in 2020, he's doubtful he would have made the team. As it turned out, the delay caused by the pandemic meant that he was ready by the time the Games were staged in 2021. How was the journey through that year's US Trials all the way to the final in Tokyo, and how valuable were all of the lessons he learned?
Cole is a real student of the sport and takes us inside why the running community in the United States has always prized The Mile, and it's metric equivalent, so highly. He also discusses why he accepted the invitation to join the inaugural season of Grand Slam Track and, more generally, what he would like to see happen to grow the sport of Track and Field in the US ahead of the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.

Andrew Vaughn's memorable team debut helps Brewers crush Dodgers
July 8 - Andrew Vaughn hit a three-run home run in his first at-bat with Milwaukee and Freddy Peralta tossed six scoreless innings to pace the Brewers to a 9-1 victory over the visiting Los Angeles Dodgers on Monday in the opener of a three-game series. Peralta (10-4), the Brewers' lone All-Star selection, scattered five hits, striking out seven and walking one. Aaron Ashby allowed an RBI single to Esteury Ruiz in the eighth. Christian Yelich added a home run for the Brewers, who have won three of four. Dodgers starter Yoshinobu Yamamoto (8-7) failed to get out of the first inning, allowing five runs (three earned) on four hits with two walks. He needed 41 pitches to get two outs. Vaughn, acquired last month in a trade with the White Sox for pitcher Aaron Civale, was called up earlier Monday from Triple-Nashville when Rhys Hoskins went on the 10-day injured list with a sprained left thumb. Vaughn, who had five homers in 48 games with the White Sox, staked the Brewers to a 3-0 lead in a five-run first. Sal Frelick doubled to open and William Contreras walked. With two outs, Vaughn sent a 2-2 pitch 409 feet to left-center. Isaac Collins singled and Brice Turang walked. Collins scored from second when Caleb Durbin reached on a throwing error by shortstop Mookie Betts to make it 4-0. Andruw Monasterio followed with a bloop RBI single to shallow right, chasing Yamamoto. The Brewers loaded the bases against Will Klein in the fifth on two walks and an infield single. Turang singled in two runs with two outs to make it 7-0. The Dodgers threatened in the sixth on consecutive two-out singles by Freddie Freeman and Will Smith, but Peralta retired Andy Pages on a hard-hit comebacker. Dallas Cowboys hero and iconic civil rights activist Pettis Norman dies at 86
Former Dallas Cowboys star Pettis Norman has died aged 86. The NFL franchise confirmed the news with a statement on Monday, which read: 'We mourn the passing of former tight end and civil rights advocate Pettis Norman. 'Known for his selfless leadership, commitment to community, and dedication to creating equal opportunity, we were incredibly proud and grateful to share his remarkable story recently'. Norman was selected by the Dallas Texans in the 2962 AFL Draft however never played for the side. He eventually joined the Cowboys as a free agent. The former tight end spent nine seasons with the franchise and - across 121 games - recorded 124 catches, 14 touchdowns and over 1,600 receiving yards. Away from the football pitch, Norman was also an entrepreneur and a civil rights activist. He influenced the changing of the team's roommate assignments and helped break social barriers. He also founded the Dallas Together Forum, which worked alongside Dallas CEOs to improve minority hiring. He also once sued the Dallas Cowboys and San Diego Chargers over 'medical negligence' regarding the handling of an injured knee. A family statement read: '[Norman] passed away peacefully in his sleep... surrounded by his loving wife, daughters, grandson, and great grandchildren. 'A strong advocate for civil rights and dedicated to creating opportunities for all, Mr. Norman was a respected business executive and civic leader, known widely for his accomplishments both on and off the field. 'He leaves behind a legacy of selfless leadership, advocacy on behalf of underserved people, and a deep commitment to his community.'

Colt Keith's three hits lead Tigers to win over Rays
July 8 - Colt Keith had three extra-base hits, including a solo home run, and the host Detroit Tigers opened a week-long homestand with a 5-1 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays on Monday night. Keith, who scored two runs, supplied two doubles as the American League-leading Tigers won their fourth straight. They were coming off a three-game road sweep of Cleveland. All-Star Javier Baez smashed a two-run homer while Zach McKinstry supplied a solo shot. Riley Greene added an RBI single. Winning pitcher Keider Montero (4-1), elevated from Triple-A Toledo earlier in the day, held the Rays to one run and four hits with four strikeouts in six innings. Tyler Holton, Brenan Hanifee and Will Vest each tossed an inning of scoreless relief. Tampa Bay starter Shane Baz (8-4) gave up three runs and seven hits with seven strikeouts in six innings. Jonathan Aranda had an RBI single. The Rays have lost six of their last eight contests. The Tigers stranded two runners in the first but the right-handed Baz couldn't prevent damage in the next inning. Dillon Dingler led off with a double. After Baz struck out the next two hitters, Baez clubbed his 10th homer on an 0-2 offering, a hanging curveball. The Rays made it 2-1 in the third. Taylor Walls drew a one-out walk. He moved to second on a Danny Jansen single and scored on Aranda's single. On that play, right fielder McKinstry threw out Jansen at third. Chandler Simpson had a one-out double in the top of the fifth but the right-handed Montero retired the next two batters. Keith smacked his second double of the game leading off the bottom of the inning. Baz struck out the next two batters, but Greene brought in Keith with a bloop single. Keith greeted reliever Paul Gervase in the seventh by ripping a fastball over the right field wall for his seventh homer.
