Libya's Mellitah to work with Hill on two gas projects

Mellitah Oil and Gas has entered into an agreement with US-based Hill International to oversee a significant project aimed at enhancing Libya's gas production. Mellitah Oil and Gas is a joint venture between Libya's National Oil Corporation (NOC) and Italian energy company Eni. The signing of the agreement took place during a visit to the Libyan capital Tripoli by US President Donald Trump's senior adviser for Africa, Massad Boulos. The project, known as Structures A&E, is set to elevate local gas output and ensure exports to Europe. It will see the development of two gas fields in contractual area D, offshore Libya. With production due to commence next year, the fields are expected to yield up to 750 million cubic feet of gas per day. The development will be supported by two main platforms, which will be integrated into the existing treatment facilities at the Mellitah complex. In addition to boosting gas production, the project includes the construction of a carbon capture and storage (CCS) facility at Mellitah. This facility aligns with Eni's decarbonisation strategy and aims to significantly reduce the overall carbon footprint. The estimated investment for the project stands at $8bn (Ld43.23bn), with a substantial impact anticipated for the industry and its supply chain, thereby contributing notably to the economy of Libya. During the discussions, NOC presented Libya's strategy to increase oil production to two million barrels per day by 2030. Massad Boulos also engaged with Libya Prime Minister Abdulhamid Dbeibah, as reported by Reuters, citing a statement from the prime minister's office. Prime Minister Dbeibah expressed his government's commitment to forging economic collaborations with Washington, which would pave the way for US companies to engage in development and investment projects in Libya. The prime minister's team showcased a range of strategic economic partnership projects, valued at around $70bn. These projects span various sectors including minerals, energy and electricity, and are ready for investment. Step into sustainable style: Sindiso Khumalo opens first flagship store in Cape Town

'The ultimate dream is to open my own store,' Sindiso Khumalo once told TRUELOVE. Straight from the internationally celebrated designer's lips to God's ears, Sindiso has officially launched the very first flagship store of her eponymous brand. Everyday shoppers will now get to see Sindiso's hand-illustrated prints, considered silhouettes and intentional design approach in person in Cape Town's Longkloof precinct. Sindiso says, 'Opening the store in Cape Town just made sense. It's where my family is, where my home is.' The store features designs and artwork from local creatives, as well as surplus tiles and repurposed furniture. This emphasises the brand's commitment to providing a platform for African creativity to shine and it's commitment to sustainability. 'I really wanted the space to tell a story of South African art and design. It really feels like me,' Sindiso says. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Sindiso Khumalo (@sindisokhumalo) 'We took a lot of care into curating the space to reflect the story of the brand and to bring that story to life in a physical form. Everything you see in the store – the colours, the textures, the energy – is part of the world we've built with the brand.' The designer adds, 'I wanted every aspect of the space to be reflective of the work we do at Sindiso Khumalo. We've always worked with waste in a way that reimagines it as something beautiful, and I wanted that to be part of the store too.' Sindiso launched her namesake label in 2014 after completing her master's in textile futures at Central Saint Martins in London. After a pause to focus on raising her young children, she relaunched in 2018 and has since built a loyal following of customers who appreciate her slow, intentional approach to design. Since then, the LVMH Prize finalist and her fashion label have been featured at Milan Fashion Week and has worked with global brands like Vans, & Other Stories and IKEA. But no matter the accolades, authenticity has always been paramount to Sindiso's vision for her brand. But the person I was when I started my brand ten years ago is still who I am today. The LVMH Prize and other accolades have been wonderful, but my path has always been about expressing my voice and what matters to me. 'It's a continuous process – there's never really a moment where you feel like you've 'arrived' at the point of success. I studied at St. Martin's almost 20 years ago, and it's been a long journey since. Even now, I feel like I'm just getting started, always learning and growing within my craft.' The store launch also gives shoppers a new Sindiso Khumalo collection titled In Full Bloom, a line inspired by sisterhood and shared heritage.

VSB secures contract for 303MWp solar project in Poland

German renewable energy developer VSB Group has received a contract for difference (CfD) for a 303 megawatt-peak (MWp) solar project in Lower Silesian Voivodeship, Poland. The contract was issued by the Polish Energy Regulatory Office (URE). The project will be one of the largest photovoltaic (PV) parks in Poland. The construction of this ground-mounted PV plant, currently in the development phase, is scheduled to begin in October 2025. The plant spans more than 260 hectares northeast of Wrocław and will provide enough clean power for 117,000 households annually. This initiative profits from a 15-year CfD that will provide long-term price stability. The anticipated grid connection for this project is expected in the second quarter (Q2) of 2027. VSB Poland managing director Hubert Kowalski stated: 'With this project, we are setting a new benchmark for solar energy in Poland. In just a few years, it could evolve into one of Europe's largest hybrid energy projects, combining photovoltaics, battery storage and wind power. 'Its success will depend on economic conditions and future regulatory frameworks. At VSB, we maintain an ongoing dialogue with local communities to jointly develop stable, utility-scale renewable energy solutions. Projects like this would stand no chance without the consent and support of local stakeholders." This is VSB Poland's second major project in recent years, and follows Miejska Górka – currently the largest wind project in Poland with an installed capacity of 190.8MW. It was developed by VSB for TAURON Zielona Energia. VSB Group CEO Dr Felix Grolman stated: 'We are proud to actively contribute to the energy transition with this flagship photovoltaic project – one of the largest in Poland. It embodies the scale and ambition needed to drive meaningful change, while enhancing energy security in Poland and across Europe. This solar park marks a significant milestone on that journey.' In September 2024, TAURON Polska Energia's subsidiary, TAURON Zielona Energia, made an agreement to acquire project rights for Miejska Górka, expected to be operational by early 2027, from the VSB Group.
