Jaipur: The
Rajasthan High Court
Monday rejected petitions seeking a re-examination of NEET UG 2025, emphasising that the interests of 2.2 million candidates cannot be compromised for a small number of affected students.
The bench of Justice Sameer Jain dismissed the petitions filed by Roshan Yadav and others who sought either a re-conduct of the examination or compensation through bonus marks. The petitioners raised concerns about power outages affecting 15 exam centers in Sikar district, impacting approximately 5,390 candidates.
According to the petitions, the nationwide examination was conducted across 552 cities in India and 14 international centres.
In Sikar district alone, 98 exam centres accommodated 31,787 candidates. The affected centers allegedly experienced power disruptions lasting between five to 28 minutes, which the petitioners claimed hampered their ability to complete the examination effectively.
The petitioners argued that the district collector failed to ensure uninterrupted power supply, which was essential for maintaining a conducive examination environment. However, state govt advocate MS Raghav countered that only 0.5% of total candidates filed complaints, with power outages being attributed to unexpected storms and adverse weather conditions.
"A committee investigation revealed no discrepancy in examination duration between affected and normal centres and no substantial harm was caused to the petitioners," Raghav stated during the proceedings.

HC transfers Malinga assault case from Dholpur to Jaipur

1 2 Jaipur: The Rajasthan High Court Monday ordered the transfer of a high-profile assault case involving former MLA Girraj Singh Malinga from Dholpur to Jaipur, citing concerns over witness safety and the accused's influential status in the region. The single-judge bench of Justice Umashankar Vyas issued the transfer order while hearing a criminal transfer petition filed by assistant engineer Harshadhipati, the victim in the case. The case stems from an alleged assault on Harshadhipati and junior engineer Nitin Gulati at the Bari discom office in Dholpur on March 28, 2022. Malinga, who is currently out on bail, has faced multiple charges of assault on public servants. He was a Congress MLA from Bari but switched over to BJP prior to assembly elections in 2023. He, however, lost the election. "We told court that victim and witnesses face life threats in Dholpur as the accused is a strongman," said Akhil Simlote, counsel for the petitioner. The court noted that a procession organised by Malinga's supporters following his bail release demonstrated his significant influence in the area. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 5 Books Warren Buffett Wants You to Read In 2025 Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo The case will now be heard at the SC-ST Court in Jaipur district, with Justice Vyas directing for a timely completion of the trial. The high court has directed the Jaipur Police Commissioner to implement robust security measures during the case hearings. "The high court has directed appointment of one SI and two ASIs under the Case Officers Scheme in the matter to assist the lower court and the prosecution," Simlote said. Malinga's bail history has been contentious. Initially granted in May 2022 due to Covid-19, the bail was cancelled by the high court on July 5, 2024, because of the celebratory procession organised by his supporters. Though he again surrendered and was jailed on the high court's directions, the Supreme Court stayed the bail cancellation on Dec 13, 2024.

HC stays attempt to murder trial in SDM slapping case

1 2 Jaipur: The Rajasthan High Court Monday granted relief to Naresh Meena, an unsuccessful candidate involved in the controversial SDM slapping incident during the Deoli-Uniara assembly bypoll last year. Justice Uma Shankar Vyas issued an interim stay on the attempt to murder trial against Meena, which was being heard at the SC/ST court in Tonk district. The case stems from a Nov 13, 2024, incident where Meena was caught on video slapping SDM (Malpura) Amit Chaudhary during the assembly bypolls at Samravata village. Meena was arrested the following day. Challenging the charges under Section 109(1) of the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita, Meena's counsel, Fateh Ram Meena, argued the available evidence, including official election videography and other footage, clearly showed it was a case of assault rather than attempted murder. "All documents, evidence and witnesses confirm it was merely a slapping incident. The attempt to murder charge is excessive," the counsel stated. While Meena received bail in the slapping case in May from the bench of Justice Anil Upman, he remains in jail due to his alleged involvement in a separate Samravata village violence case.
