Bengaluru dad earning ₹48 LPA hesitates to accept ₹75 LPA job: 'Why slog your a** off, pay double the tax'
In a post on Reddit, the man described himself as "middle class," pointing to soaring rents, school fees, and rising household expenses, claiming his high salary was already stretched thin.
The Reddit post claimed that the new salary hike may increase his take-home pay by roughly 50% but the tax burden almost doubles from ₹12 lakhs to ₹22 lakhs. "It raises a fundamental question for me: why should I work significantly harder just to pay more to the government, without receiving any additional tangible benefits compared to those who pay little or no tax?" he questioned.
After getting criticised for ranting despite his high salary, the Bengaluru resident reiterated his point of view. "Most of the comments are missing the point: Why slog your a** off and pay double the tax to the government, when you do not get any additional benefits from the government compared to a non-taxpayer? Does it not rile you all internally?" he remarked.
However, some Reddit users were unbothered by his complaints. "I can't answer your question sir but I can sure question your thinking of tagging r/middleclass in your post while earning approx 50 LPA it's far from being middle class," said one of them.
Another suggested, "Why not negotiate with your employer to hire you as a contractor and find avenues to lessen your tax outgo legally?"

(Photo: Rajib Dhar/AP) Over the past one year since the ouster of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Bangladesh has slipped into a state of lawlessness under the interim government of Muhammad Yunus, the octogenarian propped by the agitators and the military as the country's unelected ruler. Amid cyclic attacks on the country's religious minorities, particularly Hindus, mob violence has increasingly become the norm in Bangladesh that has not even spared the country's police personnel. Since August 5, 2024, at least 637 people, including 41 police personnel, have been lynched in Bangladesh, according to Canada-based Global Centre for Democratic Governance's (GCDG) data carried by The Economic Times. They have waged a campaign of retribution against political opponents, particularly the workers, activists, and leaders of Hasina's Bangladesh Awami League (BAL). They have also attacked the country's minorities, particularly Hindus, whom they accused of siding with Hasina. In the past year, Hindus have been attacked in their houses, their houses have been burnt, and their temples have been attacked. Instead of making the protection of minorities' protection a priority, Yunus has presided over the state patronage of extremists, which has included acts like the release of jihadist leaders from jail. Most lynching victims were from Hasina's party Of those lynched, around 70 per cent of victims were from Hasina's BAL, local human rights bodies have said. These victims have largely been from Hindu and Ahmadiya Muslim communities, which have been a favourite target of Islamists in the country. Even though agitating groups said they were fighting for democracy, they have propped an unelected regime of Yunus with little accountability. The regime has not yet announced a date for elections and continues to run the country without any mandate from the people. Tech Mahindra has restructured its global operations following the exit of some of its employees after the succession of the CEO role to Mohit Joshi, who has been with the company since its founding and is one of the longest-serving chief executives in the IT industry, CP Gurnani. "Our talent is the engine driving Tech Mahindra's transformation. We are doing what it takes to make TechM not just a world-leading, but a world-beating organisation, whether that means creating new roles, nurturing internal talent, or bringing in bold new leadership," Joshi told PTI in an email interview. The company has appointed new leaders for several verticals and elevated internal senior employees between August 2023 and June 2025 to lead key divisions at the organisation in global roles. "We have restructured our global operations into six focused Strategic Business Units; each aligned with our delivery priorities and designed to accelerate our multi-year growth agenda. We have carefully calibrated leadership roles to blend experience, expertise, and future focus. This balance of continuity and fresh perspective gives us the edge to deliver on our FY'27 ambitions," Joshi said. For the financial year 2027, Tech Mahindra has set goals to achieve higher average growth than its peers and expects the current fiscal year to surpass FY'25. In the leadership reshuffle, the company has appointed nine new leaders and elevated seven leaders to global roles in the last two years, with the recent hiring being the appointment of Amol Phadke as Chief Transformation Officer of Tech Mahindra in June 2025. Joshi said the impact of new leadership was reflected in the June quarter, where EBIT margins improved for seven consecutive quarters and have now reached 11.1 per cent, compared to 10.5 per cent last year. Tech Mahindra reported a 34 per cent growth in consolidated profit to Rs 1,141 crore, while its revenue grew by 2.7 per cent to Rs 13,351 crore during the June 2025 quarter.
