Sad Closures Hit Dallas's Lower Greenville in June

Eater3 days ago

In a fast-paced city like Dallas, restaurants come and go all the time. Know of a Dallas restaurant closure that's not on this list? Drop us a line at dallas@eater.com .
This Lower Greenville spot will close on Sunday, June 29, and owner Rod Schaefer tells the Dallas Morning News that he is leasing the space to Goodwins owners (and neighbors) Austin Rodgers and Jeff Bekavac. Pizzeria Testa in Frisco will remain open, and Schaefer says that Rodgers and Bekavac made him an offer he couldn't refuse, meeting his criteria of having a plan he felt could work for the space and living in the community. Rodger and Bekavac remain tight-lipped about those plans.
There's going to be one less tiki bar on Lower Greenville, bringing the total to a disappointing zero. Swizzle's owners announced on Instagram that the bar will close on Saturday, July 19. The business will continue as a catering company. Citing business difficulties since opening in 2020, the post suggests that customers support locally owned businesses they love. It will host a 'tiki takedown' sale on Tuesday, July 15, in which various items from the bar will be sold.
The Afghan-influenced restaurant Nora, in the Bishop Arts, closed in May. In an Instagram post, its owners revealed that Nora isn't gone forever; it is just moving to a new location. More information to come on that.
Patrons noticed that Peaberry's original location in Oak Cliff had a 'for lease' sign up early in June. Peaberry told the Dallas Observer that the shop's air conditioning failed, and while gathering quotes to replace it, the owners discovered deeper problems with the building. The shop was also broken into multiple times during its temporary closure. Owner Elijah Salazar confirmed to the Dallas Observer that Peaberry would reopen inside Centro Church, but those plans fell through at the last minute. On Monday, June 16, Salazar opened a pop-up called Peaberry on Ice inside Another Round, a mini golf place.
It began in 1991 and is scheduled to close in 2025. Bodacious Bar-B-Q in Arlington, near AT&T Stadium, has been in its location for 34 years and will close its doors for good in August 2025. In a Facebook post, owner Fran Ruegsegger asked that, between now and the barbecue joint's closing, customers share their stories.
Time for a new place to take the crown of the best chicken-fried steak in Fort Worth, because Old Neighborhood Grill has closed. The restaurant opened in 1998, and Texas Monthly lauded its breakfasts as being among the state's best in 2011. See More: Dallas Restaurant Closings

Beyoncé's flying car prop tilts mid-air in scary malfunction during ‘Cowboy Carter' tour

Beyoncé experienced a frightening moment during her Cowboy Carter tour stop in Houston, Texas, over the weekend. While performing '16 Carriages' Saturday night in a car prop suspended above the audience, the vehicle suddenly stopped and tilted mid-air, prompting the singer to momentarily pause her performance. 'Stop. Stop. Stop. Stop. Stop,' Beyoncé can be heard saying in a video obtained by ABC News, just before the music was cut. 'Thank you for your patience,' she added. The crowd erupted in cheers to show their support as the car was slowly lowered back to the stage. In the video, Beyoncé is seen gripping one of the support cables while suspended in the air. After safely returning to the stage, she finished her performance of '16 Carriages' and addressed the audience. "I wanna thank y'all for loving me," she said. "If ever I fall, I know y'all will catch me." Later that night, Beyoncé's company, Parkwood Entertainment, released a statement via Instagram story confirming the incident. 'Tonight in Houston, at NRG stadium, a technical mishap caused the flying car, a prop Beyoncé uses to circle the stadium, and see her fans up close, to tilt,' the statement read. 'She was quickly lowered and no one was injured. The show continued without incident.' Beyoncé has since shared photos from the concert, including an image of the mishap, writing in the caption, 'I love you, Houston.' The Cowboy Carter tour, in support of Beyoncé's eighth studio album of the same name, kicked off in April at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles. Following a stop in France, the tour arrived in Houston over the weekend and will continue in Maryland and Georgia before wrapping in Nevada at the end of July.

LeBron James' wife pushing him to ‘f–king retire' next year after he re-ups with Lakers

Savannah James is urging LeBron to retire. The Lakers superstar exercised his $52.6 million option for 2025-26, bypassing free agency to return to Los Angeles for his 23rd NBA season. The 2003 No.1 overall pick revealed this during a dinner outing in New York with his wife, Savannah, Miami Heat and former Cleveland Cavaliers big man Kevin Love and his wife, Kate, among others. One of the dinners guests posted a snippet on Instagram of the conversation where James can be heard saying, 'Savannah wants me to f–king retire in the next year or so.' His agent, Rich Paul, told ESPN that while LeBron 'appreciates the partnership' with the Lakers, he 'values a realistic chance of winning it all' and will be closely monitoring the team's offseason moves. Variety via Getty Images At 40 years old, turning 41 this coming December, James continues to perform at a star level, especially on offense. James ended year 22 averaging 24.4 points, 8.2 assists, and 7.8 rebounds. Despite his on-court production, the Lakers were eliminated in the first round of the playoffs by the Minnesota Timberwolves, who later reached the Western Conference finals before losing to the eventual champion Oklahoma City Thunder. Getty Images Paul offered further insight into the possibility of retirement, which will continue to hang over James every season now that he's in his 40s. 'We want to evaluate what's best for LeBron at this stage in his life and career,' Paul told ESPN. 'He wants to make every season he has left count, and the Lakers understand that, are supportive and want what's best for him.' The Lakers, who made the major deal with the Mavericks for Luka Dončić this past season, are still attempting to compete in the West, but it's unclear if they'll be championship-level good for this coming year.
