NDTV25-07-2025
A small aircraft crashed onto a highway in Brescia, northern Italy, on Tuesday, resulting in the deaths of two people. The victims have been identified as 75-year-old lawyer and pilot Sergio Ravaglia from Milan and his partner, 60-year-old Ann Maria De Stefano.
The incident occurred when the Freccia RG ultralight aircraft nosedived and hit the road, leading to a massive fire and thick black smoke. The crash was captured on video, showing the aircraft descending at high speed before hitting the pavement.
Authorities believe Ravaglia was attempting an emergency landing on the highway but was unable to regain control of the plane, which then spun out and crashed.

Two motorists were also injured due to the explosion but survived. Several vehicles were seen near the burning wreckage as drivers attempted to avoid the crash site.
Emergency services arrived quickly, but the plane was already completely destroyed by the fire. The Freccia RG is an Italian ultralight aircraft made of carbon fibre and has a wingspan of around 30 feet.
Italy's National Agency for Flight Safety is sending a consultant to Brescia to support the investigation. Meanwhile, the Public Prosecutor's Office of Brescia has opened a manslaughter investigation and will examine the plane's maintenance history and mechanical condition.

‘I am not a hero' Italian football coach, ex Inter-Milan manager Stramaccioni saves two girls from drowning in sea

On July 28, the ex Inter coach Andrea Stramaccioni, an Italian football manager, saved two teenage girls from drowning in sea and was awarded a symbolic red lifeguard shirt by the Italian Coast Guard. Stramaccioni says he is 'not a hero or a freak' and says he just felt compelled to intervene. He was on vacation with his family in Puglia in the Bay of Sfinale when he suddenly noticed something on shore. He saw a lifeguard in the water, whistling to attract attention and seeking help. 'There were two girls waving and screaming, so I got up and quickly headed for the water. I immediately sensed the danger. The lifeguard would never have made it alone,' Stramaccioni told La Gazzetta dello Sport. He noticed that the girls were in the area where the beach ends at two rocky points where the biggest waves gather. 'I'm not a hero or a freak; on the contrary, at a certain point I had a tough time of it myself, but as someone with the physical and mental characteristics suited to a similar situation, I felt compelled to intervene.' And he jumped in. The lifeguard told him to head towards the older of the two girls (aged 17 and 19). 'As soon as I saw her, she told me she was scared. The water was deep, the waves were strong, I reiterated to her to stay calm, stay on her back, and that in five minutes it would all be over.' He took her to safety near the shore and turned around to look for the lifeguard and the other girl. 'She was in shock. The lifeguard couldn't help her, so I immediately turned back. The younger girl's situation was desperate: she kept disappearing, going down, and then coming back up, and above all, she had already drunk a lot. Meanwhile, the rescue boat had picked up the lifeguard and was trying to reach us, but we were too close to the rocks. They started throwing ropes at us from the rocks, but we couldn't reach them. I started to get scared, especially because the girl was dragging me into the water. She was convinced she was going to die,' Stramaccioni told La Gazzetta. Somehow he managed to tell her to listen to him and trust him. There was just one way out to safety from that point where she was stuck. '… which was to slip into a small cove between the rocks, so I grabbed her and literally 'threw' her there, ending up underwater. At that point, after resurfacing, I lost my bearings and fell against the rocks.' Only when he used the rope thrown by people and hauled himself back up, did he find out that the girl was indeed safe. 'I breathed a sigh of relief … My son asked me, 'Dad, what if I died?' I did it out of a sense of 'protection,' as if my wife or one of them were in the water. That area, in any case, is dangerous. You mustn't be careless or reckless … I didn't think twice and dived in. I'm telling this because people should remember that the most important thing is life.'

Mario Paglino and Gianni Grossi, the acclaimed Italian designers known for their iconic contributions to the world of Barbie, tragically lost their lives in a car accident on Sunday, July 27, in Italy. The fatal collision occurred on the A4 Turin–Milan motorway and was reported by Italian news outlet TG24. According to initial reports, the couple were travelling with their close friend, Amodio Giurn, and his wife, Silvia Moramacro, when their vehicle collided head-on with another car being driven in the wrong direction. The other driver, identified as 82-year-old Egidio Ceriani, was reportedly travelling at a speed of 129 kilometres per hour. The crash claimed the lives of Paglino, Grossi, Giurn, and Ceriani. Moramacro was the sole survivor and has been hospitalised in critical condition. Paglino and Grossi were reportedly en route to a lake for a day trip when the tragic incident occurred. The crash took place between Novara Est and Marcallo Mesero, in the north-western region of Italy. More than just professional collaborators, Paglino and Grossi were also romantic partners. In 2006, they made history as the first non-American artists to design a commemorative Barbie doll. Their creative work was often inspired by the likes of Vincent van Gogh, Frida Kahlo, and Piet Mondrian, blending high art with the cherished world of collectible dolls. The post went on to honour the 'spirit and love" of the 'passionate and talented designers and lifelong collectors", noting that they 'turned every creation they touched into a masterpiece" and 'shared an energy that lit up every space they entered." According to the official Magia2000 website, a doll created by the duo sold for $15,000 at a charity auction in 2015. In 2011, they also founded the Italian Doll Convention, now recognised as the largest fashion doll event in Europe. Delhi HC declares Nutella a ‘well-known trademark' in Ferrero filed infringement case

The Delhi High Court has officially declared Nutella, the popular hazelnut cocoa spread, as a 'well-known trademark', observing that the brand enjoys widespread recognition not just in India but across the globe. 'This leaves no shadow of doubt that plaintiffs are well established in the markets all across the globe and are not mere fly-by-night operators. Their registered trademarks 'NUTELLA'/ and its variants are recognised all across the globe, including but not limited to India,' LiveLaw quoted Justice Saurabh Banerjee in his ruling. The Court also took into account that Nutella had already been recognised as a 'well-known trademark' by both the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and the International Trademark Association. The judgment came in response to a suit filed by Ferrero SpA, the Italian confectionery company behind Nutella, against a company accused of trademark infringement. According to the allegations reported by LiveLaw, the defendant was engaged in the manufacture, supply, and sale of counterfeit Nutella products that bore identical trademarks, labels, and trade dress to that of Ferrero's original. Ruling in Ferrero's favour, the Court expressed concern over the public health risks posed by such counterfeit goods, particularly because they are edible products consumed by a wide demographic, including children.
