Hindustan Times15-05-2025
After the killing of three terrorists in Keller forest of Shopian on Tuesday, the army on Wednesday said all local three terrorists were involved in recent terror incidents in Kashmir and said the operation was launched on the specific intelligence inputs.
On Tuesday the army claimed to have killed three local terrorists affiliated with Lashkar-e-Taiba and it's shadow outfit The Resistance Front (TRF).
The terrorists were identified by police as Shahid Kuttay, Adnan Shafi Dar and Ehsan ul Haq Sheikh of Shopian.
Kuttay and Dar were identified on Tuesday and army identified third as gunned downed terrorist as Sheikh on Wednesday.
Army described Kuttay as the operational commander of Lashkar-e-Taiba who was active in south Kashmir from a long time who was involved in fresh recruitment of cadres in the outfit.
'Based on inputs by intelligence agencies about presence of terrorists in the Keller forest of Shopian district, a joint op Police operation was launched by army, police and CRPF on May 13, resulting in neutralisation of three terrorists, including the local commander of LeT/ TRF after an intense encounter. The three were actively involved in recent terror activities in the region. Recoveries from the operation include AK series rifles, large quantity of ammunition, grenades and other war like stores,' the Army said in a statement on Wednesday and termed the success of this operation result of an excellent synergy between all security forces and intelligence agencies.
This was the first major encounter between security forces and terrorists in close to three weeks in the forests of south Kashmir, where a massive combing operation has been underway since the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam that killed 26 people and escalated tension between India and Pakistan.
Following the April 22 terror attack at the picturesque Baisaran meadow in Pahalgam, army and J&K police launched a massive combing operation in the forests of south Kashmir and Kishtwar district in Jammu division. Police have detained dozens of overground workers across Kashmir Valley for questioning about the terrorists involved in the Pahalgam attack. Police have already announced a cash reward of ₹20 lakh for providing information about the terrorists whose pictures and sketches were released by security forces last month.

Imran Khan's call from jail: 'Hold Asim Munir accountable if anything happens to me'; alleges 'harsh treatment'

Former Pakistani PM Imran Khan on Wednesday instructed his party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) members to hold army chief Asim Munir accountable in case "anything happened" to him in jail, PTI reported quoting Imran Khan's X post. 'In recent days, the harsh treatment I face in jail has intensified. The same applies to my wife, Bushra Bibi. Even the television in her cell has been switched off. All basic rights — both human and those legally granted to prisoners — have been suspended for both of us,' he said in a post on X. 'Therefore, I give clear instructions to my party — if anything happens to me in jail, Asim Munir must be held accountable,' he added. 'I am prepared to spend my entire life in prison, but there is no question of bowing before tyranny and oppression. My message to the people of Pakistan is the same — never submit to this oppressive system under any circumstances,' he said. The 72-year-old former cricketer and politician has been in jail since August 2023, facing multiple criminal charges. PTI is set to launch a nationwide campaign from August 5, demanding his release and pressuring the Shehbaz Sharif government and the military establishment.

"1 Country, 2 Laws?" Digvijaya Singh's Kanwar Yatra Post Sparks Row

Bhopal: Sharing two pictures - one where a Kanwar Yatra is blocking a road and the other where people are offering namaz - Congress MP and former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Digvijaya Singh followed it up with a provocative question. "One country, two laws?" Mr Singh captioned his social media post, questioning religious processions and alleged administrative bias. The post has triggered sharp backlash from the ruling BJP. Launching a scathing attack, Madhya Pradesh Minister Vishwas Sarang accused Digvijaya Singh of repeatedly targeting Sanatan Dharma and disrespecting Hindu traditions. "He has always insulted our festivals, saints, and beliefs," Mr Sarang said. "Making a sacred event like the Kanwar Yatra controversial is part of his anti-Hindu politics. He once praised Zakir Naik, questioned the Army, and even coined the term 'saffron terror' - what else would you expect from him but bias against Sanatan Dharma?" the Minister said. Mr Sarang further labelled the Congress veteran as "Maulana Digvijaya Singh," implying he often speaks in favour of the Muslim community while opposing Hindu causes. "If such remarks are made repeatedly on Hindu festivals, they will not be tolerated. Digvijaya must apologise," he added. In response, Congress leader and former minister PC Sharma defended Mr Singh, clarifying the intent behind the post. He said Mr Singh's message was rooted in constitutional equality as envisioned by Dr BR Ambedkar. "His point was simple: the Constitution is equal for all. Issues during public events, whether it's Kanwar Yatra or namaz, should be resolved through dialogue, not by harassing citizens or letting scrap dealers damage vehicles in front of passive police," said Mr Sharma. The row has reignited the political divide over religious symbolism, public space usage, and selective outrage - an issue that flares up regularly, especially in states like Madhya Pradesh. While the BJP accuses Singh of appeasement politics, Congress maintains he is merely raising questions about equal application of the law.
