Where are we heading to as a society: Khan Sir reacts strongly to Muzaffarpur rape case
Speaking to IANS, Khan Sir said, 'This is not just a case of crime, this is a question of our collective humanity."
Describing the inhumanity of the incident, he said, 'Arif Mohammad Khan (Bihar Governor), who came to meet me, was very shaken. He told us, 'How can a human being be so devoid of empathy that a child – a 11-year-old girl – comes out limping after being raped, and even then, the system fails to respond?' She was taken away in an ambulance, and even then, she was shuttled between hospitals without proper treatment.'
'Where are we going as a society? The pain of another should feel like our own – this is the essence of humanity. If we lose this, then what is the difference between humans and animals?" he told IANS.
Khan Sir further called on the legal fraternity to introspect.
'Why do some lawyers take up the cases of such criminals—rapists, acid attackers, and murderers? I know many responsible lawyers who refuse to fight for someone they know is guilty. It's time more people follow this principle. The unity and conscience of the legal community can make a real difference.'
He also wished the nation on Bakra Eid, expressing his deep respect for Bihar Governor Arif Mohammad Khan, who visited his classroom on the occasion.
'It's our good fortune that someone as intellectual and compassionate as Arif Mohammad Khan is serving as our Governor,' he said.
Sharing an anecdote from the visit, Khan Sir recalled how the Governor insisted on visiting the classroom and was moved by the inclusive atmosphere.
'We have reserved front-row benches for a person with disability. They study free of cost, and we make sure they get the best experience. When the Governor saw this, he was impressed and even expressed interest in taking a class here someday.'
Calling it a proud moment, Khan Sir added, 'He said, 'Tell me a topic and I will come to teach your students.' It's a great honour, and we are looking forward to that day.'
When asked about his personal life, as he was recently married, he said, 'Everything is normal, just like any other couple.'
Khan Sir further responded to the Bihar government's action of suspending the Medical Superintendent of Sri Krishna Medical College and Hospital in Muzaffarpur, where the girl was allegedly denied timely treatment.
'The suspension is a start, but it's not enough. There should be a clear protocol for critical cases. If someone is shot or raped, you don't delay treatment for paperwork. She died in the ambulance, waiting for admission. This is not just negligence – it's criminal apathy.'
He proposed systemic reforms in hospital operations.
'In big hospitals, there is always a separate corridor for emergencies. Why don't we have one in Bihar's biggest government hospital? There should be a direct route for super-critical cases. A building alone doesn't make a hospital – it's the system and intent inside that matter.'
'In smaller towns or villages, you can understand some lack of infrastructure. But in Muzaffarpur? This is unacceptable. It brings shame to the entire district, the entire state.'
Khan Sir concluded with a plea: 'We need to look within. These brutal crimes are becoming frequent. The time for silence is over. We have to stand up – as citizens, as educators, as humans. Because if we don't, we fail not just the victim, but the idea of humanity itself.'

Over 200 tribal families in KNP limits lack basic amenities: Adivasi Hakkagula Samanvaya Samithi
Adivasi Hakkugala Samanvaya Samiti on Sunday lamented that tribal families residing within the Kudremukh National Park in Belthangady taluk lack basic amenities, including road connectivity and power supply. Shekhar Laila, convener of the samithi's Belthangady taluk unit, raised the issue at the SC/ST grievances redressal meeting convened by the Mangaluru City Police Commissionerate and Dakshina Kannada District Police here. He said more than 210 tribal Malekudiya families residing in nine villages were deprived of basic amenities in the taluk. Superintendent of Police K. Arun said that he would write to authorities concerned regarding the urgent need for road connectivity and footbridges for the residents. Mr. Laila also raised the issue of 18 Group 'D' staff working on contract basis at the Belthangady taluk hospital receiving salary once in three or four months and not getting even a single day leave in a month. The Superintendent of Police said that he would take up the issue with the District Health Officer. In another instance, seven Koraga families of Atrinje at Sulkeri in Belthangady taluk were deprived of an all-weather connectivity infrastructure, as a bridge was built 21 km away from their habitat. Another participant highlighted the plight of 13 Dalit families residing in Nirde and Ajakala of Balnadu village, Puttur taluk, who continue to lack proper road access to their houses. He said pregnant women, patients, and other residents face immense difficulty. Though the issue was brought to the Deputy Commissioner's notice, no action was taken. Police Commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy clarified that any issue concerning SC/ST communities, including harassment or atrocities, may be reported to the nearest police station, which will conduct a preliminary inquiry before transferring the case to the Directorate of Civil Rights Enforcement (DCRE). Those who are in distress can directly approach the DCRE, he added.

Women villagers on outskirts of Bengaluru seek police help over liquor shop menace
Villagers of Rajaghatta, especially women, raised concerns over what they called rampant sale of liquor, and claimed that it is destroying families by pushing their husbands into addiction and joblessness. They sought police help to contain the menace. The issue was brought up during the SC/ST grievance meet organised by the Bengaluru district police along with 'Mane Manege Police' (door-to-door police service) on Sunday. Lakshmamma, one of the villagers, who spoke on behalf of other women in the locality, told Superintendent of Police C.K. Baba that the liquor shops in the area open at 6 a.m., and operate till midnight or beyond . 'This is posing a threat to the families, as the men get drunk early in the morning and do not go to work. Most of the families face a difficult situation due to the alcohol menace and it is pushing them into penury. Even grocery and vegetable shops have started stocking up liquor, making them accessible round the clock,' she said. Mr. Baba summoned the excise department officials to ensure that the liquor shops should adhere to the time specified in the licensing condition. The department and the jurisdictional police have also been asked to conduct regular checks on the illegal sale of liquor at the shops. Meanwhile, a few students present at the meeting complained of being humiliated at schools as they were ridiculed by their friends and classmates for their caste. 'We were mocked and called casteist names. The teachers and village elders are not doing anything despite being aware of this situation,' a student told senior police officers. Taking strong objection, Mr. Baba asked the Panchayat Development officer, and officials of the education department present at the meeting to take immediate action and ensure such practices are not repeated. The police later visited Dalit colonies and pasted stickers containing the names and numbers of police officers to be contacted in any eventuality with the intention of instilling confidence among the general public that the police are at their service. Mr. Baba, along with other officials also had lunch with the villagers. The villagers were urged to help the police force in fighting crime and maintaining law and order.

Chirag faces heat from NDA over crime remarks
Patna: A day after criticising the state govt and police over law and order issues, LJP (Ram Vilas) chief and Union minister Chirag Paswan continued to draw sharp responses from alliance partners Hindustani Awam Morcha (Secular) and JD(U) on Sunday. Following Union minister Jitan Ram Manjhi's remark branding Chirag as a politically inexperienced figure, his son and HAM(S) president Santosh Suman launched a scathing attack of his own. However, BJP leader and PHED Minister Neeraj Singh Babloo maintained that while internal criticism is welcome, Chirag remains very much part of the NDA fold.
