RSS to complete 100 years in October, celebrations to begin from August 26
The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) has announced plans to organise Hindu conferences and public outreach programs across the country as part of its centenary year celebrations. Celebrations will begin on August 26 with a lecture series by RSS Sarsanghchalak Mohan Bhagwat.(PTI)
The RSS will complete 100 years of its establishment on Vijayadashami this year. To mark this milestone, celebrations will begin on August 26 with a lecture series by RSS Sarsanghchalak Mohan Bhagwat, which will take place in Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Kolkata.
For its centenary year, the RSS has set a goal to reach every block in every state across the country. The organisation considers its local branches (shakhas) its greatest strength and aims to increase the number of shakhas to over one lakh this year.
This information was shared by Anil Gupta, Delhi Prant Karyavah, Delhi RSS, during the Dev Rishi Narad Journalism Awards ceremony. He stated that the centenary year celebrations would be inaugurated on August 26 with a three-day lecture series by Mohan Bhagwat in the four major metros. Alongside this, nationwide outreach campaigns will also be conducted.
Towards the end of the year, the RSS plans to organise 1,500 to 1,600 Hindu conferences across India. The organisation was founded on Vijayadashami, which falls on October 2 this year, marking its 100th anniversary.
Meanwhile, on Thursday, RSS Sarsanghchalak Mohan Bhagwat, speaking at the launch of the biography of late Ayurveda Practitioner and RSS leader Dada Khadiwale in Pune, emphasised that the core principle of RSS is "belongingness."
"If the RSS were to be described in one word, it would be 'belongingness'," Bhagwat said, adding that this feeling must grow stronger in society.
"If the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) were to be described in just one word, that word would be 'belongingness'. What does the Sangh do? It organises Hindus. And this growing sense of belongingness should be further strengthened because the entire world is sustained by it," he added.
Bhagwat said that real unity comes from recognising the common thread that connects everyone. Humans, unlike animals, have the ability to rise above selfishness, he explained. "The one who understands this belongingness is truly human," he said.

Mumbai now free of loudspeakers at religious structures, says police chief
MUMBAI: Mumbai Police Commissioner Deven Bharti on Saturday asserted that the city is now entirely free of directional loudspeakers after its personnel successfully completed a comprehensive crackdown on public address systems at all religious structures. "All loudspeakers from religious structures have been removed. Mumbai is now loudspeaker-free from all religious structures," Bharti told PTI. The police commissioner, refuting claims of selective targeting, made it clear that religious structures of a particular community had not been singled out and stressed that the operation was conducted methodically, in line with the Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis's directive for proper and non-arbitrary action. "We engaged in deliberations with community and religious leaders and also political party leaders and prevailed upon them," Bharti explained, highlighting the collaborative approach taken before implementing the measures. This action follows an order issued by the Bombay High Court in January this year, in which the police were directed to take prompt action against loudspeakers violating noise pollution norms and rules. The high court reiterated that the use of loudspeakers is not considered an essential part of any religion. Commenting about the scale of the operation, the police chief said, "We have removed around 1,500 directional loudspeakers from religious structures across the city. The police will also ensure that such loudspeakers are not put up again." While the ban on permanent loudspeakers is now in effect, the police commissioner clarified that temporary permissions for the use of loudspeakers will be granted during religious festivals. The high court, in its order, had noted that noise was a major health hazard and no one can claim that their rights are affected in any manner if he or she is denied permission to use loudspeakers. Mumbai was a cosmopolitan city, and obviously, there were persons of different religions in every part of the city, the court had said. The court order was passed on a petition by two housing associations from suburban Kurla — Jaago Nehru Nagar Residents Welfare Association and Shivsrushti Co-op. Housing Societies Association Ltd. — alleging police inaction against noise pollution caused by loudspeakers installed on masjids in the area. The petitioners contended that the use of loudspeakers for religious purposes, including the recitation of 'Azaan,' disturbed the peace and violated the Noise Pollution (Regulation and Control) Rules, 2000, as well as provisions under the Environment (Protection) Act, 1986.

K.C. Venugopal slams RSS, Union Ministers over call to drop ‘secular' and ‘socialist' from Preamble
All India Congress Committee general secretary K.C. Venugopal, MP, has slammed Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and Union Ministers for suggesting the removal of the words 'secular' and 'socialist' from the Preamble of the Constitution. Speaking to media persons in Alappuzha on Saturday, Mr. Venugopal said the RSS-BJP agenda to amend the Constitution would not be allowed to succeed. 'There is a conspiracy. After all, the BJP came to power by creating confusion and doubt among the people. Union Ministers have said that secularism and socialism are unnecessary. This amounts to a violation of the Constitution,' he said. The Congress leader said the RSS was evoking memories of the Emergency to push for Constitutional amendments. 'Even the word socialism seems to scare them. The claim that the RSS stands for the Hindu community is false. We will not allow secularism and socialism to be removed. We will resist any such move, including in Parliament,' Mr. Venugopal said. RSS general secretary Dattatreya Hosabale has suggested removing the words 'secular' and 'socialist' from the Preamble. Union Ministers Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Jitendra Singh later threw their weight behind the idea. Earlier, inaugurating the Youth Congress training camp in Alappuzha, he called for strengthening the organisation from the grassroots. 'Good leadership is not enough. The foundation should be strong. We need to strengthen the foundation of the organisation to move forward,' Mr. Venugopal said.
