Eagles 'Doom' Predicted For Saquon as 2025 'Bust'

The Philadelphia Eagles are "doomed.'' ... because Saquon Barkley is about to be a "bust.''
Want trigger words? You got 'em.

Philadelphia Eagles running back Barkley is on the short list in the conversation of "The NFL's Best Player'' — and that was true even as he struggled through injuries and defeats in his previous life with the New York Giants.
He just turned 28, and this party does not go on forever, of course ... though the Super Bowl champions have obviously placed their bet that it will go on for two more seasons, as they just gave the 2024 NFL Offensive Player of the Year a two-year contract extension worth a whopping $41.2 million.
So when does the "doom'' set in? How soon is Saquon a "bust'?"
Now, in the eyes of Bleacher Report's Gary Davenport, who is issuing these incendiary predictions right after Barkley just got done rushing for over 2,000 yards and just got done winning the Super Bowl.

The logic here, such as it is?
"He's doomed in 2025 for numerous reasons,'' B/R writes. "The first is last year's workload. Barkley had 378 touches a season ago, putting him squarely in the crosshairs of the 'Curse of 370.'"
What's that?
"Since 2007,'' Davenport continues, "there have been 25 instances where a running back surpassed 370 touches in a season. Of that group, only two gained more total yardage the following year.'
Yeah, but ... we're not asking Barkley to "gain more total yardage'' in 2025. Does he need to do so to avoid being a "bust?"
Of course not.
It is also noted that out of the group of eight running backs in NFL history to run for 2,000 yards in a single season previous to Barkley, the average fall off in production was roughly by half — an average drop of 966 rushing yards.

That's some fancy figurin' ... but we bet injuries might have played a role in that "average fall off.'' And even if Barkley — for whatever reason —falls considerably short of rushing for 2,000 yards in 2025 ...
Does that automatically mean he's a "bust?"
Of course not.
Barkley could in fact take a substantial statistical dip from his 2024 rushing total and still be a contender to repeat as NFL Offensive Player of the Year — something that hasn't happened in 25 years. How? Barkley — who happens to be an overwhelming favorite to repeat as the award's winner at +650 odds on ESPN Bet — could do it with TDs, with receiving yards and with wins.

And those possibilities loom larger than Saquon Barkley being a "bust'' amid the "doom."

David Bakhtiari pokes fun at Aaron Rodgers's mystery wedding

David Bakhtiari could be heading to "The Island." Then again, maybe he's already there. On Monday, the former Packers tackle tweeted a video from the recent wedding of current Packers quarterback Jordan Love. Bakhtiari added this: "Just happy at least one of my quarterbacks invited me to their wedding." Advertisement Love and Bakhtiari had limited time together. Bakhtiari started only one game in 2023, Love's first year as a starter and the left tackle's last year in Green Bay. Aaron Rodgers and Bakhtiari had many years together with the Packers. Making the Bakhtiari remark even more interesting is the general haze of uncertainty surrounding the Rodgers wedding. Up to and including whether a wedding even happened. We know, we know. Rodgers doesn't want anyone to talk about his wedding. When you're one of the most famous players in the NFL, however, you don't get to dictate the terms of the attention you receive. Especially when you show up out of nowhere with a wedding ring. Before showing up without it. Before showing up with it prominently in the photo of you signing a contract with your new team. With Rodgers cloaking so much of his life in mystery, it's impossible to know when, where, or who he married. Or if he even is married. Advertisement Maybe the ring is a Costanza-style sociological experiment aimed at seeing whether women will hit on guys who wear wedding bands. Regardless, Bakhtiari went there. We don't know much, but we know Rodgers won't be happy about it.

Lions legend Ndamukong Suh launches an interesting new podcast

Former Detroit Lions star Ndamukong Suh was always known as a sharp guy off the field. Now retired for a few years, Suh is launching a new podcast that explores his football background and off-field financial prowess. Suh spent his first five NFL seasons with the Lions. The No. 2 overall pick in the 2010 NFL Draft earned All-Pro status in four of those years and was the Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2010, bagging 10 sacks. While his physical play made him some enemies on opposing teams (notably Green Bay), his poised, shrewd off-field persona and friendship with Warren Buffett were always a very intriguing subplot in the story of Suh. He's now developed that into a podcast called "No Free Lunch" in conjunction with The Athletic. From the podcast liner notes, NFL legend and entrepreneur Ndamukong Suh sits down with the sharpest minds across the world of sports, investing, and entrepreneurship to discuss their personal success journeys and explore the latest business and finance ideas. No Free Lunch launches on July 1st with brand-new episodes on Tuesdays and Thursdays. This is a good opportunity for fans to get more insight into the real off-field lives and interests of their NFL heroes, including Suh.

Third seed Pegula suffers shock Wimbledon exit

American third seed Jessica Pegula admitted her shock straight-sets defeat against Italy's Elisabetta Cocciaretto in the Wimbledon first round was her "worst result of the year". Pegula was demolished 6-2, 6-3 by the world number 116 in just 58 minutes on Court Two on Tuesday. Advertisement It was a bitter blow for the 2024 US Open finalist, who has never been past the quarter-finals at the All England Club. The 31-year-old played with heavy strapping on her right knee and never looked comfortable in a lacklustre performance. "She played incredible tennis. Do I think I played the best match ever? No. But I wasn't that bad. It was just her day today," Pegula said. "I think I could have served better but I was having trouble with the conditions. It was very humid and the court was slow. "I tried my best to match her level and I thought I would close the gap in the second set. But she didn't drop her level at all. She was forcing a lot of my errors." Advertisement Since losing last year's US Open final against Aryna Sabalenka, world number three Pegula has been eliminated before the quarter-finals in all three of her Grand Slam appearances. "It's probably the worst result I've had all year. I haven't lost in the first round of a Slam for a long time. That sucks," she said. "I feel like I'm playing as well as I was at the end of last year. But it's hard to put it all together over two weeks. Sometimes it doesn't align. "I managing the knee and I have a bit of a neck injury as well. But I feel good overall. That's why it's disappointing. Advertisement "The most frustrating thing was I wasn't able to figure it out, which I feel I should be able to. " It was only Cocciaretto's second win against a top-10 player. The 24-year-old has never been past the third round at Wimbledon and her best Grand Slam performance was a run to the last 16 at last year's French Open. smg/jw
