In the world of Bollywood, box office clashes are always exciting for fans, especially when two big stars go head-to-head. Among the most talked-about rivalries is that between Akshay Kumar and Shah Rukh Khan. Over the years, their films have been released on the same day not once, but five times, making headlines each time. Audiences and trade experts have closely followed these showdowns to see who comes out on top. While both have strong fan bases and box office pull, one actor has clearly had the upper hand in most of these clashes. Let's take a look at the numbers. The Beginning Of The Epic Clash
Shah Rukh Khan's film 'Maya Memsaab' and Akshay Kumar's film 'Waqt Hamara Hai' were released together in the year 1993. On the first day, 'Maya Memsaab' collected Rs 4 lakh and 'Waqt Hamara Hai' collected Rs 25 lakh. However, if we talk about the total collection, 'Waqt Hamara Hai' surpassed 'Maya Memsaab'. Clash Number 2
After this, in the year 1997, there was a clash between Shah Rukh Khan's 'Yes Boss' and Akshay Kumar's film 'Daava'. 'Yes Boss' collected Rs 11.33 crore and 'Dawa' collected Rs 3.36 crore. After their final run concluded in theatres, 'Yes Boss' emerged as a clear winner. Clash Number 3
In the year 2004, Shah Rukh Khan's epic 'Veer-Zaara' and Akshay Kumar's critically acclaimed 'Aitraaz' were released together. 'Veer-Zaara' collected Rs 41.86 crore and 'Aitraaz' collected Rs 15.58 crore. 'Veer-Zaara' featured Shah Rukh Khan, Preity Zinta, and Rani Mukerji in leading roles, while 'Aitraaz' included Akshay Kumar, Priyanka Chopra, and Kareena Kapoor. Clash Number 4
In 2006, Shah Rukh Khan's cult classic 'Don' clashed with Akshay Kumar's 'Jaan-e-Mann'. Salman Khan was also with Akshay in 'Jaan-e-Mann'. This time too, Shah Rukh Khan defeated Akshay Kumar, even by a big margin. SRK starrer earned over Rs 4 crore net on its opening day, while 'Jaan-E-Mann' earned Rs 2.43 crore net. After its final run, 'Don' grossed Rs 50 crore in India, while Akshay Kumar starrer grossed Rs 25 crore. The Final Clash Till Date
Shah Rukh Khan's 'Chennai Express' and Akshay Kumar's 'Once Upon a Time in Mumbai Dobaara' were released on 15 August. 'Chennai Express' collected Rs 227.13 crore and 'Once Upon a Time in Mumbai Dobaara' collected Rs 61 crore, and became a huge box office dud. These figures clearly signify that this epic clash was won by King Khan, as their last clash was considered in 2013. However, the two superstars also had averted clash with a difference of week in 2017, as SRK's 'Jab Harry Met Sejal' was released with Akshay's 'Toilet: Ek Prem Katha.'

'Kannappa' box office collections day 8: Film slows down; mints only Rs 30.55 cr

Vishnu Manchu's big-budget mythological drama 'Kannappa' kicked off with a strong opening, but the film's performance has slowed considerably in its second week. According to early estimates by the Sacnilk website, it earned around Rs 35 lakhs on its eighth day, pushing the total to Rs 30.55 crore across languages. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Bright opening, but numbers fall steeply Released with much fanfare, 'Kannappa' opened to Rs 9.35 crore on Day 1, thanks in large part to its Telugu audience. The first weekend was encouraging, with the film raking in over Rs 23 crore by Sunday. Kannappa - Official Hindi Trailer Monday's collections dropped to Rs 2.3 crore, and the numbers continued to slide through the week. By Thursday, daily earnings hovered at Rs 1.35 crore. Audience turnout dips across languages The drop wasn't just in numbers, as it was visible in theatre occupancy too. In the Telugu-speaking regions, occupancy on Friday averaged just under 17%. In Hindi belts, the response was even more subdued, staying around 10%. Evening and night shows did see a slight bump, which is not enough to affect the day's overall take significantly. Crucial weekend ahead The film's second weekend will likely determine how long it can stay afloat. While the mythological theme had its appeal, and the star cast brought attention, the story now needs strong word-of-mouth to carry it forward. With newer films arriving and audience interest shifting, 'Kannappa' has its task cut out if it hopes to stay in the game. Our verdict ETimes gave the movie a rating of 3 stars out if 5 and our review reads, "Watch it if you enjoy sacred stories with strong visual storytelling and emotional payoff. Kannappa ends on a powerful note that resonates with devotees and admirers of culturally rooted cinema." The movie is overall getting mixed reviews from the audiences which may affect it's long run in theatres.

How Karnataka's iconic Mysore Sandal Soap overshot targets, clocked highest ever sales

(NOTE: This article was originally published in the India Today issue dated July 14, 2025)In mid-May, one of Karnataka's best-known cultural brands, Mysore Sandal Soap, found itself in a bit of lather. Pro-Kannada activists were upset that Karnataka Soaps & Detergents Ltd (KS&DL), the state-owned company that manufactures the iconic 109-year-old soap, had chosen actor Tamannaah Bhatia as its brand ambassador instead of a Kannadiga celebrity. But even as it hastened to defuse the row, KS&DL had much to thank the controversy for. The firm clocked its best-ever sales for the month of May at Rs 186 crore, a 24 per cent bump from the target of Rs 150 The soap maker has been on a winning streak in the past few years, with annual sales almost doubling since 2020-21 to Rs 1,780 crore in 2024-25; net profit grew almost four-fold from Rs 113 crore to Rs 415 crore in the same period. Ramping up production and online marketing played a big role in this, says its MD, Prashanth India accounts for over 80 per cent of the sales for KS&DL, with Andhra Pradesh the biggest market. Hence, the push into other regions, especially the north. It's also why 'pan-India star' Tamannaah was signed up. KS&DL has set itself a target of Rs 5,000 crore in annual turnover by 2028. It is investing Rs 250 crore in a new plant at Vijayapura in north Karnataka and also eyeing diversification into new products. 'We are taking it nationaland even international in the future,' says M.B. Patil, Karnataka's minister of large and medium industries. 'Then perhaps we'll need a Hollywood celebrity to endorse us,' he to India Today Magazine- EndsMust Watch
