Pawan Kalyan orders audit of lands belonging to Gram Panchayats in Andhra Pradesh
This would enable the government to find out encroachments and reclaim the occupied lands, Mr. Pawan Kalyan said while participating as chief guest in the National Panchayati Raj Day event organised by the A.P. Panchayat Raj & Rural Development Department, near Mangalagiri, in Guntur district on Thursday.
Revenue through timber
He also told the department to grow timber on vacant lands of the GPs, saying that it would fetch a revenue of nearly ₹20,000 crore per year, thereby reducing the State's dependence on wood imports to that extent.
Mr. Pawan Kalyan said GPs had suffered a lot in 2019-24, during which period funds devolved by the Finance Commission were diverted on a large scale. The GPs did not have the funds required for development, and the functional autonomy envisaged by the Constitution was confined to rhetoric.
After the TDP-Jana Sena Party-BJP alliance came to power, the situation vastly improved. Funds were being given to the GPs, irrespective of which party was in control, he stated. A sum of ₹1,121 crore provided by the 15th Finance Commission was directly remitted to the GPs, he said
Development works
Mr. Pawan Kalyan said massive development works were taken up in the villages at a cost of approximately ₹10,670 crore in the last nine months. These works included about 4,000-km of cement concrete roads, 13,000 water tanks and 20,000-plus farm ponds. Due priority was given to providing road connectivity to the tribal villages, he said.
The Deputy Chief Minister said he issued orders to the officials to strictly follow the rules in making transfer of the employees, and that he personally made it clear to the leaders who approached him with recommendations that he would strictly adhere to the rule book.
Paying tributes to the tourists who were killed by terrorists at Pahalgam in Jammu and Kashmir, Mr. Pawan Kalyan suggested to the officials of PR&RD Department to build a 'national integration complex' and a pylon in every village to instill a sense of unity and patriotism, as the country would be safe and strong only when such a spirit was fostered from the grassroot level.
Mr. Pawan Kalyan said he would discuss it with Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and, if necessary, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Later, he gave away awards to 74 officers and staff of the PR&RD Department who excelled in discharging their duties.
Swachha Andhra Corporation Chairman K. Pattabhiram, Principal Secretary (PR&RD) Sashi Bhushan Kumar and Commissioner M.V.R.K. Teja, and Guntur District Collector S. Nagalakshmi were among those present.

‘No arrest, only lawful document verification': Odisha Advocate General tells Calcutta HC on migrant detentions
The Calcutta High Court on Wednesday asked the Advocate General of Odisha to submit an affidavit on the alleged detention of Bengali-speaking migrant workers who had travelled to the state for work. The division bench of Justice Tapabrata Chakraborty and Justice Reetobroto Kumar Mitra asked, 'Apprise us whether they were arrested, interrogated, or detained.' The Advocate General of Odisha, appearing virtually, denied any arrest. According to the petitioners' counsel, those detained were allegedly released only after the court intervened. Raghunath Chakraborty, appearing for the petitioners, said, 'The detention was illegal and thus compensation should be provided. Those who have been released have stated that many others like them remain in custody — detained illegally and not produced before a magistrate.' 'There have been no arrests. As per the Foreigners Act, 1946, Section 3, when the citizenship of suspected persons is in doubt, we investigate for lawful verification of documents. People from all over the country come to work here, and lawfully, on suspicion, their documents are verified,' the Odisha Advocate General submitted. Senior counsel Kalyan Banerjee, appearing for the petitioners, argued, 'There must be some grounds. Only on suspicion, they cannot declare someone a foreigner.' After hearing all parties, the court directed the Odisha government to submit its affidavit in opposition by August 20. The petitioners were directed to file replies by August 27, and the matter will be taken up on August 29. The court also directed Advocate General Ashok Kumar Acharya to be present in person for the next hearing. The court is hearing two habeas corpus petitions filed earlier this month against Odisha Police, accusing it of illegally detaining Bengali-speaking migrant workers. One of the petitions was filed by Nasima Mondal, mother of Rakhibul Islam Mondal who is a resident of Hariharpara in Murshidabad and was allegedly detained in Odisha's Jagatsinghpur district. She moved the High Court under Article 226 of the Constitution, claiming her son was held for more than 24 hours without being produced before a magistrate in violation of his fundamental rights. According to her petition, police allegedly picked up Rakhibul during an identity verification drive on June 25 and 'ignored valid documents' in his possession — including Aadhaar, voter ID, and ration card. The petitioner alleged he was targeted for speaking Bengali and suspected of being Bangladeshi, without any proper identity checks. Another petition was filed by Rajjak Sheikh, also from Hariharpara, seeking the release of his son, Sainur Islam. He claimed Jagatsinghpur police detained his son during a similar identity verification drive on June 30.

Pawan Kalyan Breaks Silence On Quitting Films For Politics: ‘Won't Act But…'
Pawan Kalyan, Deputy CM of Andhra Pradesh, prioritises administration over acting. He plans to finish pending films and focus on producing. Actor-turned-politician Pawan Kalyan has clarified his future in cinema following his appointment as the Deputy Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh in June 2024. Amid ongoing criticism over juggling his administrative responsibilities with film commitments, the Jana Sena Party chief has now addressed concerns and revealed where his priorities lie. In an interview with ABN, Kalyan said that although he attempted to complete his pending films before the elections, unforeseen political developments delayed the process. 'When I signed these three films, I had planned to complete them before the elections. However, I lost crucial time before the elections due to some political incidents," he explained. 'I asked the producers of all three films to forgive me because I needed a few more days to complete the films. Even after I came into power, I took time to shoot for films and only did it for two hours a day." Kalyan is currently wrapping up work on three major films: Hari Hara Veera Mallu, They Call Him OG, and Ustaad Bhagat Singh. He confirmed that he has not taken on any new acting projects. 'I have completed shooting for OG and have around five days left to complete Ustaad Bhagat Singh. I will definitely not act anymore if I have political clashes because my priority is the administration and the Janasena Party," he stated. While distancing himself from acting, Kalyan hinted at continuing in the film industry in a different role. 'I need cinema for my financial sustenance. So, I will look to producing films in the future. Even if I do act, it will only be for two hours per day. But right now, I haven't signed any more films." Among his upcoming releases, Hari Hara Veera Mallu, in production for over five years, will hit theatres on July 24, with paid premieres on July 23. Directed by Krish and Jyothi Krisna, the historical action drama stars Bobby Deol and Nidhhi Agerwal alongside Kalyan. Meanwhile, OG is helmed by Sujeeth, and Ustaad Bhagat Singh is directed by Harish Shankar. Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Allahabad HC Seeks State's Reply On Objections To Bankey Bihari Temple Trust Ordinance
Last Updated: The objections were raised by amicus curiae Sanjay Goswami in a matter filed under Article 227 concerning the temple's administration The Allahabad High Court on Monday took on record serious objections raised against the Uttar Pradesh government's move to constitute a trust for the management of the Shri Bankey Bihari Ji Temple in Mathura, and directed the State to respond. The objections were raised by amicus curiae Sanjay Goswami in a matter filed under Article 227 concerning the temple's administration. The court was hearing a petition filed by Pranav Goswami and others. Goswami challenged the constitutional validity of The Uttar Pradesh Shri Bankey Bihari Ji Temple Trust Ordinance, 2025, particularly objecting to provisions that allow the inclusion of several government officials as ex-officio trustees. These include the District Magistrate, SSP Mathura, Municipal Commissioner, officials of the Dharmarth Karya Vibhag and the Braj Teerth Vikas Parishad. He argued that the temple is a privately managed religious institution traditionally overseen by the successors of Swami Haridas Ji, and that the ordinance attempts to give the State administrative control over it through indirect means. The move, he said, amounted to a 'backdoor entry" by the State into religious affairs. According to the amicus, while the government may regulate crowd management and ensure public safety, it cannot take over internal administration or interfere with religious practices of a temple that is not State-controlled. He also cautioned that such an ordinance, if not examined, may set a precedent for similar government actions across the State. 'The Constitution forbids such type of venture by the State Government encroaching upon the area of religion," he submitted, while referring to existing examples of temple control by State governments in other regions like Tamil Nadu. The High Court observed that the matter required further consideration and directed the Uttar Pradesh government to respond to the objections raised. The case has been listed for further hearing on July 30. It was also noted that a related matter is scheduled to be heard before the Supreme Court on July 29. The case is being heard by Justice Rohit Ranjan Agarwal. view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Please keep discussions respectful and constructive.
