Pawan Kalyan orders audit of lands belonging to Gram Panchayats in Andhra Pradesh
This would enable the government to find out encroachments and reclaim the occupied lands, Mr. Pawan Kalyan said while participating as chief guest in the National Panchayati Raj Day event organised by the A.P. Panchayat Raj & Rural Development Department, near Mangalagiri, in Guntur district on Thursday.
Revenue through timber
He also told the department to grow timber on vacant lands of the GPs, saying that it would fetch a revenue of nearly ₹20,000 crore per year, thereby reducing the State's dependence on wood imports to that extent.
Mr. Pawan Kalyan said GPs had suffered a lot in 2019-24, during which period funds devolved by the Finance Commission were diverted on a large scale. The GPs did not have the funds required for development, and the functional autonomy envisaged by the Constitution was confined to rhetoric.
After the TDP-Jana Sena Party-BJP alliance came to power, the situation vastly improved. Funds were being given to the GPs, irrespective of which party was in control, he stated. A sum of ₹1,121 crore provided by the 15th Finance Commission was directly remitted to the GPs, he said
Development works
Mr. Pawan Kalyan said massive development works were taken up in the villages at a cost of approximately ₹10,670 crore in the last nine months. These works included about 4,000-km of cement concrete roads, 13,000 water tanks and 20,000-plus farm ponds. Due priority was given to providing road connectivity to the tribal villages, he said.
The Deputy Chief Minister said he issued orders to the officials to strictly follow the rules in making transfer of the employees, and that he personally made it clear to the leaders who approached him with recommendations that he would strictly adhere to the rule book.
Paying tributes to the tourists who were killed by terrorists at Pahalgam in Jammu and Kashmir, Mr. Pawan Kalyan suggested to the officials of PR&RD Department to build a 'national integration complex' and a pylon in every village to instill a sense of unity and patriotism, as the country would be safe and strong only when such a spirit was fostered from the grassroot level.
Mr. Pawan Kalyan said he would discuss it with Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and, if necessary, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Later, he gave away awards to 74 officers and staff of the PR&RD Department who excelled in discharging their duties.
Swachha Andhra Corporation Chairman K. Pattabhiram, Principal Secretary (PR&RD) Sashi Bhushan Kumar and Commissioner M.V.R.K. Teja, and Guntur District Collector S. Nagalakshmi were among those present.

Relief for 6,000 residents of Indira Colony as HC halts demolition drive
The Hindu Bureau New Delhi Over 6,000 residents of Indira Colony in north-west Delhi have received a temporary reprieve as the Delhi High Court ordered a stay on a demolition drive scheduled for Saturday and directed that no coercive action be taken until the next hearing on July 31. The court passed the interim order on a petition filed by the Indira Colony Resident Welfare Association, which challenged an eviction notice issued by the Northern Railway on July 4, citing 'unauthorised occupation' of railway land. The court observed that the issue 'requires further examination'. Broken promise Amid legal proceedings, the issue drew sharp political reactions. At a press conference, Leader of the Opposition Atishi said: 'Before elections, the Prime Minister promised every slum dweller a pucca house under the slogan 'Jahan Jhuggi, Wahan Makaan'. But ever since the BJP came to power, bulldozers have arrived at poor people's homes.' Former Shalimar Bagh AAP MLA Bandana Kumari said panic spread in the area on July 4 when the notice was pasted. 'This is CM Rekha Gupta's constituency. Despite her assurances, bulldozers razed one jhuggi earlier. Now, Indira Camp faces the same threat,' she said. While there was no immediate response from the BJP, the CM had previously assured residents that no demolition would occur without legal process or rehabilitation, and that any demolitions under way were court-directed. Policy breach The petitioners argued that the eviction violated Article 21 of the Constitution, which guarantees the right to life and dignity, including shelter, and that authorities had not followed due process under the Delhi Slum and JJ Rehabilitation and Relocation Policy, 2015, and the 2016 Draft Protocols. 'None of the required steps were taken,' it said, pointing out that the colony appears as Serial No. 74 on the Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board's (DUSIB) list of 675 eligible jhuggi jhopri (JJ) bastis. The protocol mandates that the land-owning agency must send a request to DUSIB, which must examine the eligibility of the basti for rehabilitation. Only if found ineligible, can demolition proceedings begin, the plea said. Appearing for the Northern Railway, the Central government's counsel submitted that the land belongs to the railway and that the occupants were in 'illegal possession'. The eviction notice, the counsel argued, was issued in accordance with the law.

No protest, sloganeering in M.P. Assembly, says circular for Monsoon Session; Congress slams move
The Madhya Pradesh Assembly Secretariat has prohibited protests and sloganeering in the Assembly premises in the upcoming Monsoon session that is scheduled to start from July 28, with the move drawing a criticism from the Opposition Congress. The ban was issued in a circular dated July 10 issued by A.P. Singh, Principal Secretary, M.P. Assembly concerning security protocols ahead of the upcoming session. 'Hon'ble Members are also requested that under the Standing Order 94(2) of Hon'ble Speaker, sloganeering and demonstrations in the Assembly premises by Hon'ble Members are prohibited,' said the circular, that also includes various other security protocols. Slamming the move, Leader of Opposition in the Assembly Umang Singhar said that the decision was taken 'under pressure from the government'. 'The government, which gives false and fake statistics in the Assembly, is issuing such rules and orders by pressurizing the Speaker to protect itself from being exposed. This is the murder of democracy,' he said, while reiterating the Congress's demand of live streaming the House proceedings. 'Article 194 of the Constitution gives special powers to the MLAs to raise the public's issues in the House. We strongly oppose this move and like before, we will raise public issues loudly in the upcoming session,' he said. Speaking to The Hindu, Mr. Singh, however, said that this was a routine circular that is issued for security purposes ahead of each session. 'There is no new or special provision in it. No ban has been imposed separately. Such circulars are issued before each session with such requests and the rest is left on the members' wisdom,' he said.

Maya welcomes Centre stand on socialist, secular in Preamble
Lucknow: BSP chief Mayawati on Friday welcomed the Union law minister Arjun Ram Meghwal's statement in Parliament that the govt has no current plan or intention to remove the words 'socialist' and 'secular' from the Preamble of the Indian Constitution. Insisting that the statement was "appropriate and commendable", the BSP chief, in a post on X, said, "It is news of relief and assurance for all such people, including our party BSP, who are completely against any such improper change or tampering in the Constitution of the most revered Babasaheb Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar and were also worried about such wrong demands arising." It all started in June when RSS general secretary, Dattatreya Hosabale said that whether the words 'secular' and 'socialist' should remain in the preamble of the Constitution needed to be discussed. Mayawati had then said that it will be extremely inappropriate to tamper with the provisions and humanitarian objectives of the Constitution, "as words used in it and its preamble satisfy the soul of the country, and were implemented after a lot of prudence and long and in-depth discussion." She said that her party, BSP, was getting a feeling that it was time to raise a voice against such things nationally. "If any political party tries to alter the Constitution, the BSP will not simply sit and watch over it, but hit the streets in protest," she said. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like No annual fees for life UnionBank Credit Card Apply Now Undo The former UP CM said that India is the country with the largest population of people of different religions, like Hindus, Muslims, Sikhs, Christians, Buddhists, and Parsis, and the specialty of unity in diversity through the Constitution is its unique identity across the world.
