When Hong Kong actor Albert Law Ho-kai made his last public appearance on a talk show in 2021, he revealed that cervical spine issues had left him unable to sit upright.
In a more recent interview with HK01, Law, 75, shared that he was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease more than 10 years ago, and his health has steadily declined over the years.
'My condition is deteriorating. I have Parkinson's disease, and it has worsened over the past year or two. My mobility is far from ideal,' he said.
Law added that he's currently unable to walk on his own and requires a wheelchair to get around. His daily needs are attended to by his wife and caretakers.
Despite being wheelchair-bound, the former TVB actor maintains a sense of humour, joking that he enjoys 'speeding' near his home.
Still, he admitted that he does feel a little discouraged at times.
'These days, I don't even bother seeing a doctor when I'm sick … Just sitting here feels meaningless,' he shared.
Even so, Law continues to find pockets of joy in his hobbies such as singing and recording music, adding; 'I recently started learning to play the guitar too.'
Since joining TVB in 1975, Law has starred in series such as Kung Fu (1975), You Only Live Twice (1982), You're Hired (2009) and Come Home Love (2012-2015), among others.
In 2017, Law left the Hong Kong broadcaster and gradually retreated from the spotlight, making only occasional appearances in dramas.

Pope Leo XIV greeted by international crowd at first Angelus from Castel Gandolfo

The Angelus, prayed on a warm but cloudy July 13, marked the midpoint of Leo's two-week stay for a summer break on the pontifical estate of Castel Gandolfo, a custom eschewed by Pope Francis. Despite sporadic light rain showers, shoulder-to-shoulder pilgrims from around the world, including Brazil, Italy, Poland, and the United States, filled the town's main square and lined the side streets, as the pope greeted them with, 'happy Sunday!' The hope of eternal life, Leo said before leading the Marian prayer, 'is described as something to be 'inherited,' not something to be gained by force, begged for, or negotiated. Eternal life, which God alone can give, is bestowed on us as an inheritance, as parents do with their children.' Crowds of laypeople, priests, and religious sisters alternatively opened and closed umbrellas, the sun bursting through rain drops right as Pope Leo appeared in front of the apostolic palace of Castel Gandolfo. 'That is why Jesus tells us that, in order to receive God's gift, we must do his will,' he continued. 'It is written in the Law: 'You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart,' and 'your neighbor as yourself.'' 'When we do these two things, we respond to the Father's love,' the pontiff said.A married couple from the United States celebrating their 10th wedding anniversary said they came to Castel Gandolfo hoping for the pope's blessing. They were happy to have received a wave from Leo when he passed by on his walk from the local parish to the apostolic palace before the Angelus. While the pontiff spoke, a father of four took turns lifting up each of his children so they could see Pope Leo over the crowd. Pope Leo will publicly lead the Angelus again on July 20, before returning to the Vatican in time for a slew of events for the Jubilee of Hope, including jubilees of Catholic influencers and of youth. Leo will also come back to Castel Gandolfo, found on the hills above Lake Albano, for three days over the Italian holiday weekend of 'Ferragosto,' Aug. 15-17, which celebrates the feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Before the Angelus, Pope Leo celebrated a Mass for local Catholics, religious leaders, and civil authorities at the 17th-century Pontifical Parish of Saint Thomas of Villanova in Castel Gandolfo's Liberty Square. Reflecting on the Parable of the Good Samaritan, the pontiff called for a 'revolution of love' toward those who have been hurt by life, who are 'stripped, robbed and pillaged, victims of tyrannical political systems, of an economy that forces them into poverty, and of wars that kill their dreams and their very lives.' 'Are we content at times merely to do our duty, or to regard as our neighbor only those who are part of our group, who think like us, who share our same nationality or religion?' he said. 'Jesus overturns this way of thinking by presenting us with a Samaritan, a foreigner or heretic, who acts as a neighbor to that wounded man. And he asks us to do the same.' This is why this parable is so challenging for each of us, he underlined: 'If Christ shows us the face of a compassionate God, then to believe in him and to be his disciples means allowing ourselves to be changed and to take on his same feelings.' 'Looking without walking by, halting the frantic pace of our lives, allowing the lives of others, whoever they may be, with their needs and troubles, to touch our heart,' the pope added. 'That is what makes us neighbors to one another, what generates true fraternity and breaks down walls and barriers.'--CNA

French Legion of Honour: Gisele Pelicot hailed for bravery, Pharrell Williams recognised for fashion impact

PARIS, July 14 — Gisele Pelicot, who became a feminist icon by publicly testifying over the mass rapes she endured, and rapper-turned-fashion designer Pharrell Williams were among 589 people awarded France's top civic honour yesterday. Pelicot, 72, and Williams were both named knights of the Legion of Honour on a list announced ahead of France's July 14 national day. Pelicot earned international tributes for her courage in testifying at a trial in 2024 against her former husband, who drugged her and arranged for her to be raped by dozens of men over a decade. She has since been named on lists of the world's most influential people by international media and the case helped forced a change in France's rape law. But Pelicot has remained silent since the trial. Her lawyer says she is concentrating on writing a book giving her side of the mass rape story which is to be released in 2026. Williams, 52, made his name as a rapper and singer but earned a second fortune as a music producer and after designing clothes and accessories for several brands. He has been Louis Vuitton's men's creative director since 2023. His recent Paris show attracted a host of international celebrities, including Jay Z and Beyonce, film directors Steve McQueen and Spike Lee and football and basketball stars. Actor Lea Drucker, veteran singer Sylvie Vartan, writer Marc Levy and Auschwitz deportee Yvette Levy, 99, were also among the figures awarded the Legion of Honour along with a host of former ministers, academics and top legal names. — AFP

For a faithful taste of Ipoh ‘kai si hor fun', poached chicken and bean sprouts, head to Restoran Ipoh Delicious in Setapak

KUALA LUMPUR, July 13 — Few dishes are as inextricably linked to a place as kai si hor fun is to Ipoh. Still, its sweet broth of chicken and prawns has long settled into many a Klang Valley belly, slurped up with silky-smooth hor fun. In KL, there is no shortage of places purportedly selling 'Ipoh' kai si hor fun, but when an acclaimed chef (and a native of Perak, no less) tells you about his go-to spot in Setapak, you go and check it out. For the best taste of the broth, order your 'kai si hor fun' in the 'dry' style. — Picture by Ethan Lau Located on the ground floor of Wisma Mutiara Genting, along Jalan Genting Kelang in Setapak, is Restoran Ipoh Delicious. Beyond kai si hor fun, the restaurant also offers simple fish and pork ball noodles, poached chicken, and bean sprouts. On Sundays only, a dry curry chicken noodle is available. What makes a good bowl of kai si hor fun? It comes down to balance. A harmony between the base chicken and sweeter crustacean notes in the broth, often a shimmering, clear pool-tinged orange. Then there are the tender, supple strips of flattened, shredded chicken, the smooth, slippery rice noodles, and the long, thin sticks of green onions. Here, their version (RM8.50) is mostly satisfying, but I couldn't help feeling that the broth was... muted. It had all the right stuff, like a song with a driving instrumental and lush vocals layered on top, but you're hearing a muffled version from the next room. To really taste the broth at its optimum level, you should order the kai si hor fun 'dry'. All the same ingredients are mixed with a light soy sauce mixture, but the difference is that the broth on the side is no longer diluted by the rice noodles. Now the broth is allowed to shine, singing crisp, clear notes of sweet, sweet prawn oil and chicken stock at the top of its lungs. Poached chicken is another highlight here. — Picture by Ethan Lau As a test of reliability, the fresh prawn wantan (RM4 for two pieces) featured plump, firm specimens inside translucent wrappers, served in the same broth, bold and undiluted, without the noodles. It would be silly to visit a restaurant named Ipoh Delicious and not order the bean sprouts (RM7), especially since the variety here is thick, short and crunchy, just as Ipoh taugeh should be. Pair them with an order of moist, tender poached chicken (RM16), slick and savoury from an excellent seasoned soy sauce mixture and peppered with crispy garlic, for a truly delicious Ipoh experience. It's not the most life-changing bowl in town, but Ipoh Delicious offers a faithful take on the essentials. For those chasing a taste of Ipoh without leaving KL, you could do a lot worse, and there is not much room for better. Look for this faded yellow sign. — Picture by Ethan Lau Restoran Ipoh Delicious怡美食怡保雞絲河粉 270-G, Wisma Mutiara Genting, Jalan Genting Kelang, Taman Ayer Panas, Kuala Lumpur.
