European Darts Grand Prix 2025 LIVE RESULTS: Gary Anderson facing Andrew Gilding in crunch final

The Sun04-05-2025

Woodhouse had a bull for a 164 checkout to keep the match alive. Gilding leaves misses a shot at top but Woodhouse can't close out 25. And no mistake this time for Gilding who takes his second match dart to book his place in the final.
What a flying start from Gilding. This is stunning stuff. He has raced into a 4-0 lead and is more than halfway there. Woodhouse doesn't know what has hit him.
And that's that.
And all rather emphatic indeed from Anderson.
A 7-2 victory and the Flying Scotsman is in the final.
Will he face Gilding or Woodhouse?
Let's find out...
Anderson gets the first leg against the throw to move 3-2 ahead. And he takes the next two to suddenly pull 5-2 ahead. Van Duijvenbode produced a comeback in his quarter-final - he will need to do the same again.
Nothing between these two so far. 2-2.
These two have had a bit of rest and are ready and raring to go again. Slight change in format - these are first to seven legs instead of six.
Three matches left. Two semi-finals and a final. The semis are: Anderson vs Van Duijvenbode Gilding vs Woodhouse
Woodhouse does it! It came down to the final leg and it was the Woodhouse who kept his nerve to dump out the former world champion.
Smith gets it! He nudges in front by checking out 64.
And now he will throw for a place in the semis...
Tees himself up with 78... And Woodhouse needs 50.
Bully Boy twice misses tops. Door ajar for Woodhouse?
It is - and he takes it.
Another decider to come...
Nothing to separate these two as we move towards the crunch part of the quarters. 4-4. Woodhouse with the throw.
Now time for the fourth and final quarter-final in Germany. It is Luke Woodhouse vs Michael Smith.
Andrew Gilding cruised into a 6-1 victory over Peter Wright to reach the final four. Gilding hit four 180s in the win, double Wright's.
No time to waste in Germany. Next up in the third quarter-final it is Peter Wright vs Andrew Gilding...
Van Duijvenbode missed D16 twice... He moves across... And misses again! Wade with D8 to win it... 8... misses D4... 4! DRAMA! Do neither of them want to win this?! Van Duijvenbode eventually gets D16 and crawls over the line.
And it's 5-5!
Unbelievable scenes.
Into a decider...
And it's all over. Wade leaves himself 60... can his rival take out 118? No. Wade hits D10 to extend the quarter-final.
What a turnaround this has been. Van Duijvenbode has gone from 3-1 down to now lead 5-3. This is remarkable stuff. Dirk a leg away from the semis.
And the Dutchman is back on level terms. 3-3.
Well, well, well. Van Duijvenbode needs something special... And he checks out the Big Fish! Huge from the big Dutchman. Massive.
He can, you know! Wade gets the break! And he moves to needing 35 in leg four with his opponent still requiring 238. Wade closes out. 3-1.
Honours even after the first two legs. 1-1.
Can Wade, the No10 seed, find the break after the Dutchman threw first in the match?

Red Bull chief slams George Russell comment as Mercedes chase Max Verstappen

George Russell let slip Mercedes' ongoing talks with Max Verstappen a day before Toto Wolff confirmed his contact, though Red Bull bosses Helmut Marko and Christian Horner seem unmoved Red Bull bosses have played down the chances of Max Verstappen quitting for rivals Mercedes. It was confirmed this week that the Silver Arrows remain in talks with the four-time Formula 1 champion, with driver George Russell first bringing up the subject. On Thursday, media day before the Austrian Grand Prix, the Brit said that "conversations with the likes of Verstappen are ongoing" at Mercedes. And, a day later, Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff confirmed that he has remained in contact with the Dutchman over a potential switch. ‌ Not that bosses at Red Bull seem to be too concerned. Driver development chief Helmut Marko, who has a close relationship with Verstappen, responded to the claims by simply stating: "We can't actually take this seriously. Russell just talks too much." ‌ And team principal Christian Horner also sounded confident as he told Dutch television: "They are just rumours. We know very well where we stand with Max, and where we stand contractually with Max. So yes, the rest is just a lot of noise at this point." Mercedes have a strong driver line-up comprising of Russell, who has started the 2025 season with impressive consistency and secured his first win of the year last time out in Montreal, and teenager Kimi Antonelli who the Silver Arrows hope can become the next big superstar of F1. Both are out of contract at the end of this season, which has helped to fuel the speculation that Mercedes might convince Verstappen to make the switch. But while Wolff said he has remained in touch with the Dutchman's camp, he made it clear that is remains far more likely that his current drivers will still be in their seats in 2026. He said: "There is no delay in George's contract negotiations because it has been clear for a long time what our timings were and we've known each other for such a long time, so there is no such thing as a delay. ‌ "But as a team principal for the best car brand in the world, it is clear that you're exploring what a four-time world champion is going to do in the future. That could be long into the future, but it has no effect on putting our signature on George's contract." Regarding the nature of any conversations he has had with Verstappen about a potential future with Mercedes, Wolff added: "It's also a long-term perspective and to understand what the framework he is operating on, no more than this." And he was clear in his response when asked specifically by Sky Sports if he felt it was more likely that Mercedes will field Russell alongside Antonelli, rather than Verstappen, in 2026. "Yes," was his immediate reply.

Max Verstappen reveals why he snubbed Lewis Hamilton and Brad Pitt's F1 movie

Max Verstappen has revealed the heart-warming reason why he hasn't gone to see the new F1 film which stars Brad Pitt and was produced by Sir Lewis Hamilton. Directed by Top Gun: Maverick 's Joseph Kosinski, F1 tells the story of a veteran racing driver (Pitt) who returns to Formula 1 to drive alongside a hotshot rookie played by Damson Idris. Remarkably, the $300million (£218m) budget movie was filmed in and around the F1 paddock over the past two seasons, with real-life drivers and team members making cameos. Seven-time world champion Hamilton serves as a producer on the film, helping to coach the actors on the track and consulting on the race scenes and dialogue in order to make it as authentic as possible. However, Verstappen, arguably the sport's biggest name and best driver, has tried to keep his involvement in the project to a minimum. The Telegraph report that the four-time world champion, who has been linked with a shock move to Mercedes, declined to film a scene in a nightclub with Pitt. The 2025 grid were invited to a special screening of the film ahead of the Monaco Grand Prix, which every driver attended aside from Verstappen and Aston Martin's Lance Stroll, with the Dutchman also absent for the official premiere in New York last week. But when asked why he skipped the premieres, the Red Bull driver had a pretty good reason, telling The Sun: 'Being authentic is not something I have to try and focus on. It's just who I am. 'I don't like to be on the red carpet and dress up in a suit. I don't like to interact with people that I don't really know, and have a fake smile and fake chat. It's horrible, I just don't enjoy it. 'I prefer to hang out with my friends and spend time with my little family. I also have a lot of other projects going on outside of F1. To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video 'So any extra work like red carpets is not what I want to do. I'm at a stage of my career where I've achieved so much professionally. 'I'm just focusing outside of it now, like my big passions to make life more enjoyable and not just being performance driven.' Verstappen recently became a father for the first time after his girlfriend Kelly Piquet gave birth to a baby girl, Lily, in May. The 27-year-old is also a 'bonus dad' to Piquet's five-year-old daughter Penelope and admits he is loving life as a dad to two girls. More Trending 'It's super cute. I'm trying to spend as much time making it all work,' he hadded. 'With the nappies, some are more smelly than others!' Verstappen is currently in action at the Austrian Grand Prix where a win could see him close the gap to title rivals Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris. For more stories like this, check our sport page. Ruud van Nistelrooy's Leicester departure confirmed

Van Nistelrooy was appointed at the King Power Stadium in November but was unable to steer the club away from danger, with a return to the Championship confirmed with five games of the season to play. The Dutchman called for clarity on his future following their relegation at the beginning of May, but has had to wait with the club finally confirming his exit on Friday morning. Leicester City Football Club and Ruud van Nistelrooy have mutually agreed that Ruud's contract with the Club as First Team Manager will terminate with immediate effect. — Leicester City (@LCFC) June 27, 2025 The delay is understood to have hinged around the start of a new accounting period, which begins on Monday. With players due back in for pre-season training on June 30, the recruitment process for Van Nistelrooy's replacement is well under way. A statement read: 'Leicester City Football Club and Ruud van Nistelrooy have mutually agreed that Ruud's contract with the club as first team manager will terminate with immediate effect. 'Ruud has overseen a challenging period for the club. From his appointment in November 2024, he approached the role with professionalism, integrity and a clear commitment to our aims, including through the integration of several promising players from the club's academy into our first team environment. 'Ruud moves on with the respect and thanks of everyone at the football club for his dedication and hard work, and with our very best wishes for the future. 'Preparation for the EFL Championship season will continue with the planned start of pre-season on Monday, June 30. 'First team coaching staff will oversee the delivery of those plans until a new manager is appointed. 'There will be no further comment until this process has been completed.' Van Nistelrooy replaced Steve Cooper on November 29 and won four points in his opening two games. But that was as good as it got, as a run of 15 defeats from their next 16 matches sealed their fate. Within that run, they lost nine successive home games without scoring – a new top-flight record. Once relegation was confirmed, the Foxes improved, taking seven points from their final five outings to finish 18th, 13 points from safety. Van Nistelrooy called for talks with the club's hierarchy as soon as relegation was confirmed, but was left hanging for a number of weeks. The Dutchman said: 'I would like to personally thank the Leicester City players, coaches, academy and all the staff I have worked with for their professionalism and dedication during my time at the club and to thank the fans for their support, and take this opportunity to wish the club well for the future.' The Foxes face the prospect of having to deal with a significant points deduction in the Championship, having been charged by the Premier League for breaking Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR). Leicester begin their season with the visit of Sheffield Wednesday on August 10.
