With victories at The Masters (2022, 2024), the PGA, and now The Open, he only lacks the US Open to complete the coveted Grand Slam.
Scheffler became only the fourth player in Open history to shoot 68 or better in all four rounds. This was also the 11th consecutive time he converted a 54-hole lead into a win.
He joins Tiger Woods and Ben Hogan as the only golfers to win multiple majors by four or more strokes in a single year. Since February 2022, Scheffler has collected 20 global victories.
ADVERTISEMENT Scheffler was born in Ridgewood, New Jersey, on June 21, 1996. His family moved to Dallas after 9/11, where his golf journey began. For his peers, like Rory McIlroy and Xander Schauffele, the message is clear: Scheffler is the standard they are chasing.'His bad shots are really good,' said fellow golfer Shane Lowry. 'That's when you know he's special.'Scheffler's jaw-dropping 2025 haul stands at $19.2 million in prize money alone, following his Open Championship win at Royal Portrush. While that figure is shy of his record-setting $62.2 million in 2024, it still places him far ahead of most of his peers this season.
The Texan's career earnings on the PGA Tour have now soared to nearly $88 million, making him the third-highest earner of all time, behind only Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy.
At his current pace, Scheffler is on track to break the $100 million mark by mid-2026, joining an elite club that speaks volumes about his consistency, dominance, and staying power in the modern era of golf.

DC Open comeback ends early for Venus Williams after 16-month hiatus
Venus Williams made her long-awaited return to professional tennis this week at the DC Open after a 16-month hiatus. The 45-year-old legend impressed in her comeback match, defeating fellow American 23-year-old Peyton Stearns in straight sets on Tuesday night in Washington. With the win, Williams became the oldest player to claim a tour-level singles victory since Martina Navratilova, who won at Wimbledon in 2004 at the age of 47. It was also the seven-time Grand Slam singles champion's first win in singles since 2023. While Williams wasn't pleased with the outcome of her second-round match, she expressed that she had a lot of fun during her return to competition. Live Events "Oh, I had so much fun. Definitely not the result I wanted, but still a learning experience. The part about sport (and) life is that you never stop learning," the 45-year-old Williams said. "I got to play a lot of matches here and that definitely was a plus. The fans in DC are just epic. I couldn't have been happier with my first week back." — WTA (@WTA) She also picked up a win in doubles during her time in Washington, but the demanding schedule eventually took its toll. Playing four matches - two in singles and two in doubles - over just four days proved to be physically taxing for the 45-year-old as she continued her comeback. "I feel like I ran out of gas today, unfortunately," Williams said. "I tried to find the energy, and I didn't find it." — WTA (@WTA) The last time Williams won consecutive matches in a row was back in August 2019 at the Cincinnati Open. There, she strung together three straight victories before falling to Madison Keys in the quarterfinals. Williams started strong in doubles with her partner Hailey Baptiste with the duo winning their first-round match on Monday. However, their run came to an end in the second round, as they were narrowly defeated by the second-seeded duo of Taylor Townsend and Zhang Shuai. — mubadalacitidc (@mubadalacitidc) The match ended in a tight champion's tiebreaker, with Williams and Baptiste falling 6-4, 3-6, 10-6 on Wednesday.

What can Unnati Hooda expect against Akane Yamaguchi, after beating PV Sindhu
PV Sindhu might have put it down to some lucky chords after her loss to the youngster, but Unnati Hooda will need some serious pluck when she plays Akane Yamaguchi in quarterfinals of China Open. Hooda is already one of the youngest to make quarterfinals of a Super 1000 tournament (like a Grand Slam) at 17.8 years. But she needs to aim to go deeper into the tournament, and standing in her path is Japanese Akane Yamaguchi, seeded 3. The former double World Champion has been on the wane against the topmost name An Se Young, but remains formidable, especially for those with a flat, patterned, predictable game like Busanan Ongbamrungphan who she swatted aside in round of 16. ALSO READ | Unnati Hooda after defeating PV Sindhu at China Open- 'I stayed patient', Sindhu says, 'She got lucky with net chords' Hooda must get used to schedules of early matches right after following tiring ones like against Sindhu, and runs the biggest risk of carrying forward that exhaustion, which afflicts most upcoming names not used to this grind. Yamaguchi is a pro at getting better as tournaments progress. But she can be put under intense pressure with mixing up of strokes and staying precise but unpredictable. The Japanese tends to retrieve endlessly, and a second straight good defense day from Hooda will be needed. Dragging Yamaguchi into long rallies is counted as an achievement. Beautifully placed! 🙌 Follow live action: #BWFWorldTour #ChinaOpen2025 — BWF (@bwfmedia) July 24, 2025 Hooda after the big win against the domestic rival – also a former World champion – will need to stem the onslaught that Yamaguchi can calmly let loose. The Japanese will also not play under the sprt of pressure that Sindhu was under. Unnati Hooda, speaking on her win over PV Sindhu, had told BAI, 'Playing against PV Sindhu is always a challenge, and today's match was no exception. The rallies were long and grueling, but I managed to stay focused and composed under pressure. I'm happy of the way I gave it my all and won. It was a great test for me, and I'm looking forward to the next one.' Yamaguchi is a waning star at 28, but this diminishing is hugely relative. From the previous generation, she remains the most consistent and her ranking drop merely means going from World No 3 to No 4, much tougher challenge than playing World No 15.

Venus Williams Bows Out, Jessica Pegula Upset At DC Open
Last Updated: Venus Williams' tennis comeback ended in the DC Open last 16, losing to Magdalena Frech. Star tennis player Venus Williams' return to the sport came to a sudden end in the last 16 of the ATP/WTA DC Open on Thursday, as she lost to Poland's Magdalena Frech in straight sets. Venus, competing this week for the first time in over a year, had become the oldest woman to win a WTA match in over two decades with Tuesday's first-round win against Peyton Stearns. However, Williams faced a tougher challenge against fifth seed Frech in Thursday's third-round match, losing 6-2, 6-2 in 1 hour and 13 minutes. Williams expressed satisfaction with her return to competitive tennis, saying, 'I had so much fun. Not the result I wanted, but I got to play a lot of matches, definitely a plus. I couldn't be happier… I ran out of gas today unfortunately… Sorry to have fallen short. But I know I can play better and I know I will play better." Williams is scheduled to play in next month's Cincinnati Open after receiving a wild card entry. Frech will face third seed Elena Rybakina in Friday's quarters. She took the early lead with a dominant first set performance, breaking Williams in the fifth game to go up 3-2. Frech held serve for a 4-2 lead and broke again when Williams' serve faltered in the seventh game. The latter double-faulted twice in quick succession, giving Frech three break points and she converted the first to go 5-2 up before holding serve to close out the set. Williams soon found herself in trouble in the second set, hitting a routine smash well beyond the baseline to give Frech two break points in the first game. Frech capitalised on that opportunity to break for a 1-0 lead and then held serve for 2-0. Although Williams held serve for 2-1, she couldn't threaten Frech's serve in the fourth game as the world number 24 took a 3-1 lead. Frech's shot variation continued to trouble Williams, and two wild long forehands from the veteran saw her surrender another break to go 4-1 down. With the match slipping away, Williams found her range to break back for 4-2. However, the rally was short-lived as Frech broke again in the seventh game for a 5-2 lead and held serve to seal the win against Venus. In other matches on Thursday, Canada's Leylah Fernandez, the 2021 US Open finalist, upset top seed Jessica Pegula 6-3, 1-6, 7-5 to advance to a quarter-final match against Taylor Townsend on Friday. Townsend beat sixth seed Sofia Kenin 6-3, 6-0. Britain's Emma Raducanu continued her impressive form with a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Japan's Naomi Osaka and will face Greece's Maria Sakkari on Friday. In the men's draw, fourth seed Ben Shelton advanced to the quarters after defeating Canadian 15th seed Gabriel Diallo 6-3, 6-2. Shelton will face compatriot Frances Tiafoe in the last eight, with the sixth seed beating ninth-seeded Italian Flavio Cobolli 6-1, 6-4. Australia's Alex de Minaur reached the quarters as well, after downing Jiri Lehecka 7-6 (7/4), 6-7 (6/8), 6-4. Top seed Taylor Fritz cruised into the last eight with a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Matteo Arnaldi. (With AFP Inputs) First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
