Police deny viral claims of hit-and-run by traffic officer in Subang Jaya

Subang Jaya police chief ACP Wan Azlan Wan Mamat said the officer, who was riding a BMW motorcycle on official duty in Subang Jaya, had stopped 30 metres from the scene to avoid endangering other road users.
KUALA LUMPUR - The police has denied claims that a traffic police officer did not stop his motorcycle after sideswiping another rider, causing the latter to fall onto the road.
Subang Jaya police chief ACP Wan Azlan Wan Mamat said the officer, who was riding a BMW motorcycle on official duty in Subang Jaya, had stopped 30 metres from the scene to avoid endangering other road users.
He stated that the actual situation was contrary to a 17-second video clip that went viral on Facebook at 6.50 pm yesterday, which alleged that the officer did not stop after sideswiping a Honda ADV motorcycle on the Subang-Kelana Jaya Link.
"The officer also assisted the victim together with members of the public before he was taken to Shah Alam Hospital for treatment,' he said in a statement today.
Wan Azlan said a preliminary investigation revealed that the accident occurred when the BMW motorcycle, which was travelling in the right lane, switched to the left lane and collided with the Honda motorcycle that was in the middle lane.
He said the collision caused the 20-year-old Honda rider to fall to the left side of the road, adding that the case is being investigated under Section 43 of the Road Transport Act 1987.

Kota Kinabalu: A 40-year-old Sarawakian who is currently serving sentence for an offence related to mule account schemes, was jailed four years for dealing with unlawful transactions involving a sum of RM111,668 using his own bank account. Sessions Court Judge Amir Shah Amir Hassan meted out the sentence to Wilson Anak Penchen who pleaded guilty to the charge against him. Wilson had unlawfully involved directly in a transaction involving the money using his bank account at a financial institution between Dec 25, 2024 and Jan 7 this year at the Taska Mary Land in Penampang. The offence under Section 424C(1) of the Penal Code carries a jail term of between three and ten years, or a fine of between RM10,000 and RM150,000, or both, on conviction. In handing down the sentence, the court stated that he had taken into account the seriousness of the case and even though Wilson did not have any previous crime record but had caused loss to the complainant in the case. The court also added that the court wanted to send a message to the public to not involve in the mule account schemes. The court ordered Wilson to serve the jail sentence from the date of his conviction at the Puncak Borneo prison in Kuching, Sarawak as requested by Wilson. In asking for leniency during mitigation, Wilson, who was not represented, asked for the sentence to be served concurrently with his previous sentence. However, Deputy Public Prosecutor Bryan Francis urged the court to impose a heavy sentence as to give a lesson not only to Wilson but would-be offence adding that, do not compromise with anyone who involved in the commercial crime. Bryan informed the court Wilson was fined RM11,000 in default 15 months' jail for an offence related to mule account schemes, but he failed to pay the fine and served the 15 months' jail. About the money involved, Bryan told the court that the money was still frozen as it was related to ongoing investigation. The court heard that on Jan 26, 2024, the complainant had joined in an investment scheme offered through a Facebook advertisement by clicking on a link which then redirected to a WhatsApp application to communicate with an agent. The complainant joined the company and made a total of 53 transactions to increase business capital, reaching a total of RM2,173,814.50. One of the payment transactions was deposited into an account belonged to Wilson amounting to RM111,668. The complainant who felt that he was cheated as there were no profits and the agent continued to urge the complainant to make payments, then subsequently lodged a police report. Lorry driver killed in predawn crash on NSE
MUAR: A 46-year-old lorry driver was killed in a predawn crash involving two heavy vehicles at Km144 of the North-South Expressway (southbound) early this morning. Initial police findings suggest the lorry had abruptly switched from the left to the right lane, leading a Hino lorry travelling in the same direction from Penang to Johor Baru to crash into its rear. District police chief Assistant Commissioner Raiz Mukhliz Azman Aziz said the Hino lorry driver, 42, attempted to brake but collided with the rear right corner of the Nissan, causing it to veer off to the left side of the highway. "The Nissan driver sustained serious internal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The Hino driver and his 42-year-old passenger escaped unhurt," he said in a statement today. The case is investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which carries a jail term of up to 10 years and a fine of up to RM50,000 upon conviction. He urged witnesses to contact investigation officer Inspector Khairun Izham Noor Yusry at 013-9121508 or visit the Muar district traffic police station to assist in the probe.

Dangerous driving leads to express bus crash in Sabah, injuring five people
KOTA KINABALU: A dangerous overtaking manoeuvre by an express bus driver led to a multi-vehicle collision that left five people, including the driver himself, injured along KM15 of Jalan Ranau-Tamparuli late Friday (July 11) night. The incident occurred around 10pm when the bus, carrying 22 passengers along with a conductor, was en route to Semporna from here. Ranau OCPD Supt Mursalin Mahmud said the 65-year-old driver was believed to be speeding when he attempted to overtake on a double line and sideswiped a car driven by a 30-year-old man. The bus then slammed into the rear of another vehicle driven by a 51-year-old man, which was pushed forward into a trailer in front. 'Five people were injured, comprising the bus driver, three passengers onboard the bus, and one of the drivers from other vehicles. All were taken to Ranau Hospital for treatment,' Mursalin said. Two other drivers, of a small compact car and a trailer, were unharmed. Blood and urine samples were taken from the bus driver to check for alcohol or drug use. Police also found he had three unpaid traffic summonses. The case is being investigated under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless driving causing an accident. Fire and Rescue personnel from Ranau responded to the scene to assist with rescue operations. Dashcam footage of the incident, including clips of the bus entering the wrong lane and narrowly avoiding oncoming traffic near the Kundasang Roundabout, has gone viral on social media.
