'Our new No. 1 restaurant is a sensational place, that's convincingly established a whole region on the culinary map,' says Jacob Richler, editor-in-chief and publisher, Canada's 100 Best. 'The quality of the food, its thoughtfulness and inventiveness, is reliably extraordinary, at every visit.'

A former No. 1 destination on the list, Published on Main, remains the top-ranked eatery for B.C., coming in at No. 9. AnnaLena came in just behind it, at No. 10. The Kitsilano favourite is one of three restaurants new to the top 10 this year. Richler says the latest ranking also includes 31 eateries that didn't make the cut last year.

As is often the case with the 100 best list, there are a lot of familiar names among the ranks. B.C. foodies will likely nod their heads in agreement with the other 17 eateries in the province that landed on this year's ranking including Kissa Tanto (No. 18), Baan Lao (26), and Hawksworth (66).

Three Winnipeg restaurants on Canada's 100 best list
Three Winnipeg restaurants have been ranked among the best in the country. The 2025 Canada's 100 Best Restaurants list was released Monday and includes local fine dining spots Deer + Almond, Yujiro Japanese Restaurant and Nola. For Nola co-owner Mike Del Buono, it's a privilege to be included on the national restaurant guide for the first time. MIKAELA MACKENZIE / FREE PRESS FILES Chef Emily Butcher (left) and Mike Del Buono of Nola 'It's a very cool honour to be recognized. I'm just so happy for the team; it's such an amazing recognition for all the hard work they've put in,' he says. Del Buono, founder of Burnley Place Hospitality, and chef Emily Butcher opened Nola at 300 Taché Ave. in 2021. Making Canada's 100 Best list has been a goal ever since. 'It's never been our North Star, but we knew that we would be in the conversation one day. We wanted to do this for Emily more than anything, she very much deserves to be on that list,' he says. This is the latest accolade for Butcher, who has competed on Top Chef Canada and earned gold at Canada's Great Kitchen Party during her tenure at Deer + Almond. She was unavailable for comment at press time. This is Yujiro's (1822 Grant Ave.) third appearance on the Canada's 100 Best list. Owned by prolific local chef and restaurateur Edward Lam, it's also the fine dining Japanese restaurant's best showing yet; having climbed the ranks from No. 92 last year to No. 65 this year. RUTH BONNEVILLE / FREE PRESS FILES Ed Lam of Yujiro Japanese Restaurant The ranked restaurant guide is compiled and voted on by food professionals and enthusiasts from across the country. This year's roster included 160 chefs, food writers, diners, critics and restaurant owners. Deer + Almond (85 Princess St.) is now a fourth-time Canada's 100 Best honouree and, landing at No. 34 this year, is also enjoying its highest rank to date. 'It's incredibly humbling and with any craft that you hone and work on; the doors just keep opening and the opportunities keep coming up,' chef and owner Mandel Hitzer says. 'Deer + Almond's success story is the sum of its parts. It's the hundreds of people that have contributed and been part of the team.' Hitzer himself is celebrating some additional props this year, having earned the organization's annual community leadership award for his unabashed Winnipeg boosterism and for his work with RAW:almond, the annual winter pop-up restaurant. MIKAELA MACKENZIE / FREE PRESS FILES Deer+Almond is a four-time Canada's 100 Best honouree. 'It's always been about building community and giving people opportunities. This is just a really great day, I'm really stoked and really honoured,' he says. Hitzer and Del Buono are both glad to be representing their hometown on a national scale — especially at a time when customers are eager to support Canadian businesses and as more travellers are opting for domestic vacations instead of trips to the United States. 'We've always prided ourselves on our restaurant scene in Winnipeg and if this gives us an opportunity to showcase that even further, that's a good thing for everybody. Hopefully that leads to more (local) restaurants getting on the list,' Del Buono says. 'There's nothing else out there that's celebrating our culinary artistry from coast to coast,' Hitzer says. 'It's also pushing creativity and pushing people like myself to try new things and keep working on what we do.' There were no Winnipeg restaurants included in the organization's Top 10 best new restaurant list this year. The 50 best bars in the country will be announced May 12. 19 B.C. restaurants make annual list of Canada's 100 best
The 2025 list of Canada's 100 best restaurants is out, and 19 establishments from British Columbia made the cut. B.C. is home to two of the top 10, four of the top 20 and 11 of the top 50 restaurants on the list, which is compiled annually by the magazine Canada's 100 Best. Vancouver accounted for most of the province's entries, with 14 of B.C.'s 19 top restaurants located in the province's largest city, including all four of the B.C. eateries that made the top 20. Published on Main and AnnaLena took the number nine and 10 spots on the list, overall, with St. Lawrence at number 12 and Kissa Tanto at number 18. All four of those establishments were among the eight Vancouver-area restaurants that received a Michelin star when the world-famous guide debuted in the city in 2022. They also all made the top 20 in last year's list. One Vancouver restaurant also made Canada's 100 Best's list of the top 10 new restaurants in the country. Elem placed number 10 on that list and number 99 overall. Outside of Vancouver, two restaurants located in Richmond made the list this year, along with two on Vancouver Island and one in Whistler. All of the B.C. restaurants that made the 2025 list follow. No. 9: Published on Main - Vancouver No. 10: AnnaLena - Vancouver No. 12: St. Lawrence - Vancouver No. 18: Kissa Tanto - Vancouver No. 26: Baan Lao - Richmond No. 28: Le Crocodile - Vancouver No. 32: Botanist - Vancouver No. 33: Wild Blue - Whistler No. 36: Pluvio - Ucluelet No. 37: L'Abattoir - Vancouver No. 39: Marilena - Victoria No. 55: Boulevard - Vancouver No. 60: Bacchus - Vancouver No. 66: Hawksworth - Vancouver No. 82: Burdock & Co. - Vancouver No. 87: Elisa - Vancouver No. 89: The Fish Man - Richmond No. 94: Maenam - Vancouver No. 99: Elem - Vancouver (Also no. 10 on the list of 10 best new restaurants) According to Canada's 100 Best, the annual list is compiled by a group of judges representing 'a balanced mix of informed culinary enthusiasts, food writers and critics, chefs, restaurateurs and other food-service professionals.' Each judge submits a list of their top 10 restaurant experiences of the previous year, with points assigned to restaurants for each ballot they make and weighted heavily based on their position on each judge's list. There were a total of 160 voting judges this year, which the magazine says is an all-time high. It also says the judges are spread across the country in numbers 'proportional' to the population of each province and region.

'Like even at No. 89 — there's The Fishman, one of my favourites, and my go-to for a quick, delicious jaunt when I have a layover at Vancouver International.' This year's list was selected by an increased number of judges — 160, up from 135 judges in 2023 — along with a freshened approach to criteria.
