Prasarana Rolls Out 310 New Diesel Buses To Boost Services In Klang Valley, Penang
Transport Minister, Anthony Loke, said that this marks Prasarana's final procurement of diesel buses, aligning with the government's goal to shift towards a more sustainable, environmentally friendly, and low-carbon public transport system.
'As the country's primary public transport operator, Prasarana plays a crucial role in delivering safe, efficient, and reliable bus and train services. With the addition of these new buses, I am confident that service quality will continue to improve, offering greater comfort, safety, and accessibility to the public,' he said.
He added that the initiative is part of Prasarana's long-term strategy to replace aging assets and enhance operational capabilities, in line with the Ministry of Transport's and the Malaysian government's vision to strengthen the country's public transport system.
Loke said this in his speech at the launch of the new diesel bus ceremony, which was also attended by Land Public Transport Agency director-general, Datuk Azlan Shah Al Bakri; Prasarana Group president and chief executive officer (CEO), Mohd Azharuddin Mat Sah; and Rapid Bus chairman, Datuk Seri Mustafar Ali.
Loke said that all 310 diesel buses, manufactured by Higer, will be deployed in stages on selected routes, particularly in densely populated areas with high passenger demand, to provide more frequent and user-friendly services.
He added that Higer was chosen following a comprehensive evaluation, based on technical performance, safety, and reliability.
'Although these buses are imported from China, all components are fully assembled in Johor, supporting the government's technology transfer agenda, and contributing to the growth of the local automotive industry. Beyond the technical advantages, this move also helps build local expertise and create job opportunities for Malaysians,' he added.
'These buses comply with Euro 5 emission standards, one of the world's strictest benchmarks for controlling pollutants such as nitrogen oxide (NOx). This will contribute to improved air quality, particularly in major urban centres.

CPO Futures End Higher On Stronger Edible Oil Markets

Naveen Prabu KUALA LUMPUR, July 14 (Bernama) -- The crude palm oil (CPO) futures contract on Bursa Malaysia Derivatives closed higher today, supported by gains in palm olein and soybean oil on China's Dalian Commodity Exchange (DCE). Fastmarkets Palm Oil Analytics senior analyst Dr Sathia Varqa said the market opened sharply higher, with the most-active September contract reaching a three-month high, as stronger edible oil prices on the DCE boosted buying interest. 'Although exports appear to have declined in the first half of July, traders are optimistic about increased purchases from India ahead of the Deepavali festive season in October,' he told Bernama. Palm oil trader David Ng also attributed the day's gains to strength in external markets. 'CPO ended higher on stronger soybean oil and crude oil prices, which continue to influence sentiment across the broader vegetable oil complex. 'We see prices supported well above at RM4,150 per tonne and resistance at RM4,280,' Ng said. At the close, the spot-month July contract rose RM39 to RM4,109 per tonne, August 2025 added RM39 to RM4,183 per tonne, and September 2025 gained RM56 to RM4,230 per tonne. October 2025 climbed RM64 to RM4,241 per tonne, November 2025 advanced RM62 to RM4,236 per tonne, and December 2025 increased RM56 to RM4,231 per tonne.

Nanta: Marang New Bridge Project To Be Ready In January 2027
MARANG, July 14 (Bernama) -- The new Marang Bridge project across the Sungai Marang, on the Federal Route 3 (FT003) from Kuala Terengganu to Kuantan, here is expected to be completed by January 2027. Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi said this new bridge project, implemented by the Public Works Department (JKR), began on Dec 9, 2021, and its physical progress has reached 54.7 per cent as of June 30. 'This project received two 'extensions of time' (EOT) reportedly due to land acquisition issues, but these have been resolved. We have been assured by the contractor and officials that there will be no more EOTs," he told reporters after inspecting the progress of the new bridge construction project here today. He said the new bridge project, with a contract cost of RM338 million, involves a 2.5 kilometre (km)-long stretch along the FT003 route from Kuala Terengganu to Kuantan, including the construction of the 220 metres (m)-long Sungai Marang Bridge, and a 680 m long-flyover across Marang town, as well as upgrading the existing road over a distance of 1.5 km. The bridge, which has four two-way lanes, is expected to resolve the congestion problem on the existing bridge, especially during festive seasons. "This new bridge project is very important to replace the existing bridge built in the 1950s. The old bridge is not only narrow but also low, making it difficult for fishing boats to pass through," he said. He also said that when completed, the bridge will provide significant benefits to the people, especially local residents, who will be able to enjoy a larger and more efficient road, as well as alleviate traffic congestion during peak times and festivals, in addition to saving time. Additionally, it is said that the construction of the bridge is also designed to allow fishing boats from Zone C to navigate further upstream and no longer be obstructed by the height of the existing bridge. "With the construction of this new bridge, it will certainly stimulate local economic growth, especially in the fisheries and maritime logistics sectors for the Marang district," he added.
