Wisconsin Secures Commitment From Versatile DB Zachary Taylor
After over a week without an addition to its 2026 class, the Wisconsin football team got back on the board with the commitment of 3-star defensive back Zachary Taylor (Katy, Texas).

Pulling Taylor out of Texas wasn't going to be easy, but he took an official visit to Wisconsin at the start of the month, and the Badgers took advantage of his time in Madison.
Beyond Wisconsin, Taylor's official visits included West Virginia, Texas Tech, Pitt, and Houston. He ultimately chose the Badgers over the other four programs.
The newest Wisconsin commit announced his pledge to the Badgers via his social media.
With a background as a multi-sport athlete that includes track and soccer, Taylor's athleticism has the Wisconsin football staff extremely excited, and they anticipate he'll develop into a standout player.

He is a versatile player who has played both cornerback and safety in high school. Although he is listed as a cornerback on 247Sports, the Wisconsin staff views him as a safety.
Zachary Taylor in the Recruiting Rankings
Though currently rated as a 3-star prospect by major recruiting services, Taylor is a perfect example of the type of player whose ranking could significantly improve, possibly reaching 4-star status by the end of his senior year. But as of right now, here is where he falls on the major recruiting websites.
247Sports
247Sports probably has the highest rating on Taylor, albeit as a cornerback. But a rating of 89 is a borderline 4-star player on its rating scale. The 247Sports Composite has him as the 439th-overall player in the country and the 43rd-ranked cornerback.

Rivals
Similar to 247Sports, Rivals has Taylor as a borderline 4-star player. Their 5.7 rating for the new Wisconsin football commit is the highest rating a 3-star prospect can get before hitting 5.8, which would give him a fourth star.
The recruiting site does not have him in any national, state, or positional rankings.
On3
On3 is the site lowest on Taylor. They have him as a 3-star prospect as well and a rating of just 85.95. 3-star prospects fall in the 80-89 range. They have him as the 926th-overall prospect in the 2026 class and the 83rd-ranked safety.
Where the Wisconsin Football Recruiting Class Stands With the Addition of Taylor
Zachary Taylor's commitment pushed the 2026 class to 12 players for the Wisconsin football program. The addition of Taylor gives the Badgers a nice little boost, pushing them from 40th to 33rd in the 247Sports Team Rankings as it currently stands.

Taylor also becomes the Bagders' top-ranked player in the class according to the 247Sports rankings.
With just 12 committed players, the Wisconsin football team still has plenty of work to do in filling out the rest of this class. 4-star running back Amari Latimer is a top target for the team, and there are still a few targets at wide receiver, including Jayden Petit, Zachary Washington, and Zion Legree.
Recruiting may have slowed down a bit, but there are still things coming in the near future.

"I Love to See it": Brett Baty's Strong Comments on Mets Teammate
"I Love to See it": Brett Baty's Strong Comments on Mets Teammate originally appeared on Athlon Sports. When Francisco Álvarez stepped to the plate in the eighth inning at Citi Field Monday night, the New York Mets didn't just need a hit—they needed a spark. Down 5–3 earlier in the game, the team had clawed back into a tie, and the stage was set for a defining moment. Álvarez, freshly recalled from Triple-A Syracuse, delivered it with a ringing opposite-field double that helped fuel a four-run rally and power the Mets to a 7–5 victory over the Los Angeles Angels. It was a moment months in the making. The 23-year-old catcher had been optioned to Syracuse on June 21 after struggling at the plate and behind it. In 35 games prior to his demotion, he hit just .236 with three home runs, and his defense had drawn concern from Mets coaches. But instead of sulking, Álvarez put in the work—revamping his swing mechanics, sharpening his pitch framing, and refining his game-calling. Over 21 games in Triple-A, he hit .270 with 11 home runs and 24 RBIs, showing renewed confidence at the plate and earning his call-up for Monday's opener against the Angels. 'He lives for the big moment, so I love to see it,' said third baseman Brett Baty, who scored the go-ahead run off Álvarez's eighth-inning double, which ignited the decisive rally. Álvarez also impressed defensively, catching the entire game and throwing out Angels shortstop Zach Neto trying to steal second base in the seventh. From pitch sequencing to blocking balls in the dirt, his growth behind the plate was on full display. 'It felt really special to be able to get that reception from the fans,' Álvarez said after the win, speaking through team interpreter Alan Suriel. 'I'm super-appreciative of all the fans here.' Mets manager Carlos Mendoza shared the sentiment: 'It was really special for us to see the reception from the fanbase.' Alvarez stayed hot, homering in the win over Los Angeles on Tuesday before getting the series finale off on Wednesday — a game in which New York completed a sweep. For the Mets, Álvarez's return represents more than a roster move—it's a reminder that setbacks can fuel progress. His clutch performance Monday night wasn't just a boost for a team chasing a playoff spot; it was the statement of a young catcher who embraced the challenge and came back better. Virginia Tech responds to accusations made by HBCU coach
Virginia Tech has responded to serious allegations from North Carolina Central head coach Trei Oliver. Oliver claims a Virginia Tech assistant coach was on the sideline of the Durham, NC HBCU last season in an attempt to recruit one of his players. In a statement released Saturday, Virginia Tech stated that it had no prior knowledge of the incident. 'This is the first time the issue has been brought to our attention, and no concern has previously been shared with us through any formal channel,' the statement read. 'Virginia Tech takes all NCAA rules seriously and is committed to conducting our program with integrity. We are reviewing the matter internally and will address any findings appropriately.' The comments came after Oliver spoke at a media event on Friday. When asked about the most outrageous moment of his coaching career, he pointed to an incident during the 2024 season. 'Virginia Tech was actually on my sideline recruiting our running back,' Oliver said. 'That was pretty bold. I couldn't believe it.' Oliver said the moment caused a stir during the game. Several of his assistant coaches tried to calm him down, suggesting the visitor was just there to watch. 'He's just down here visiting,' they told him. But Oliver wasn't buying it. 'I knew what it was,' he said. Star Running Back Transfers to UVA Oliver didn't name the player during the interview, but it appears that it was his star running back J'Mari Taylor. Taylor was a first-team all-conference performer and has since transferred to the University of Virginia. Taylor is expected to be part of the Cavaliers' running back rotation this fall. UVA is scheduled to play Virginia Tech on November 29. 'Thank God he went to UVA,' Oliver said. 'And UVA is going to beat the smoke out of them other folks.' Broader Implications Oliver's claim has sparked conversation around recruiting ethics and the treatment of HBCU programs in the modern college football landscape. The NCAA transfer portal has created new opportunities, but also new risks-especially for smaller programs trying to retain their top talent. As Virginia Tech begins its internal review, the coaching world is paying close attention. Oliver's story raises important questions about access, tampering, and respect across all levels of college football.
