Turkish Amb. Announces New Collaboration with M&P Public Affairs to Boost Economic Opportunities
In a move aimed at enhancing economic cooperation and opening new channels for business growth, Turkish Ambassador to Egypt Salih Mutlu Şen announced a new step toward collaboration with M&P Public Affairs & Strategic Communications.
The announcement followed a meeting between the ambassador and the President and CEO of M&P, a firm known for its continued service to several Turkish companies operating in Egypt.
The Turkish ambassador highlighted that M&P has also played a key role in facilitating an investment by an Egyptian group in Türkiye.
"To maximize our economic potential, opening new channels can provide additional opportunities for our countries and companies," the ambassador stated.
The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to pursue closer collaboration in the period ahead.

39% Tariff on Swiss Imports Sends Shockwaves Through Luxury Watch Industry
Taarek Refaat Luxury watch collectors may want to think twice before stepping into a Rolex boutique this year. The Trump administration's newly announced 39% tariff on Swiss imports threatens to push U.S. retail prices for high-end timepieces sharply higher. The White House unveiled its updated tariff plans on Thursday, raising the proposed rate from the 31% announced earlier this year. The move caught the global watch community off guard, with Switzerland, home to brands like Rolex and Cartier, at the epicenter. Eugene Totonikoff, CEO of the Swiss Watch Market, told Business Insider the announcement was 'a real shock' and that 'its effects will be immediate.' Swiss President Karin Keller-Sutter expressed disappointment, saying the 39% rate far exceeded expectations. Leading brands, including Rolex, have already increased U.S. prices this year, likely in anticipation of higher duties, according to a July report from Morgan Stanley on the Swiss watch market. U.S. imports of Swiss goods have faced a baseline tariff of 10% since April, but the new 39% duty, set to take effect August 7, would dramatically raise costs for luxury watchmakers and could shrink U.S. inventories. While Switzerland can still negotiate with Washington, collectors and dealers may soon have to adjust to a new reality: higher prices or fewer available pieces. Joshua Ganjee, CEO of European Watch Company, predicts more buyers will turn to pre-owned luxury watches instead of newly imported Swiss models. 'For many American collectors, a 39% tariff makes new Swiss releases a luxury that's harder to justify,' he said. Morgan Stanley's report noted that second-hand watch dealers have already seen stronger demand this year as Swiss brands raised their U.S. prices. While pre-owned watch prices have generally fallen since mid-2022, that decline has slowed. However, demand pressure could soon reverse the trend. Although existing U.S. stock won't be hit by the new tariff, Totonikoff warned the secondary market will likely respond 'much faster' than major retailers. He expects pre-owned prices to climb by as much as 10% next month and up to 35% within six months as buyers shift toward available inventory. 'This is not just a tax,' Totonikoff said. Turkish Envoy Hosts Solidarity Event for Palestine in Cairo

The gathering was held in cooperation with the Palestinian Embassy, IHH Humanitarian Relief Foundation, and the Vefa Association, underscoring Turkey's unwavering support for the Palestinian cause. Syria Begins Receiving Gas from Azerbaijan via Turkey
Taarek Refaat The first deliveries of Azerbaijani natural gas to Syria through Turkish territory began Saturday, marking the launch of a regional energy corridor linking the three countries. The inauguration ceremony for the new gas transmission line was attended by Syrian Energy Minister Mohammad Al-Bashir, Turkish Energy Minister Alparslan Bayraktar, Azerbaijani Economy Minister Mikayil Jabbarov, and representatives from the Qatar Fund for Development, which is providing financial support for the project. Minister Al-Bashir hailed the new regional pipeline as a strategic step toward strengthening Syria's energy security. He said the project would directly improve electricity generation capacity, extend daily operating hours for power plants, and contribute to economic recovery and better living conditions, supporting efforts to bring displaced Syrians back to their communities. Under the first phase of the agreement, Syria will receive about 3.4 million cubic meters of gas per day, enabling the production of an additional 750 megawatts of electricity. This, Al-Bashir said, would add roughly four extra hours of electricity supply per day, fueling industrial growth and stimulating the broader economy. The gas deliveries are being facilitated under a trilateral cooperation framework supported by Qatar. Youssef Al-Youssef, director of the Syrian Gas Company, said the initial pumping began from the Harjalah border station north of Aleppo to the city's thermal power plant. Initial flows amount to 745,000 cubic meters per day and will be ramped up over the coming week to the full 3.4 million cubic meters. The supply will be distributed among the Aleppo thermal plant and gas-fired power stations in other provinces. The pipeline route runs from Harjalah through the Tounian plant, then to the Al-Biyarat area in Palmyra, where it branches to feed the Jandal and Tishreen power stations. Once fully operational, the gas is expected to generate between 750 and 800 megawatt-hours of electricity daily, strengthening the stability of Syria's national grid. While the infrastructure can currently handle the planned volumes, further upgrades will be needed if supply increases in the future. According to Turkey's Energy Minister, electricity exports to Syria are currently conducted through eight connection points. Plans are underway to increase this capacity by 25% initially, eventually more than doubling it.
