Mint4 hours ago
Kaalidhar Laapata was released on Z5 on July 4. Directed by Madhumita Sundararaman, the direct-to-OTT release stars Abhishek Bachchan as Kaalidhar, with Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub and child actor Daivik Bhagela in key roles.
The film is a Hindi remake of Madhumita's 2019 Tamil movie KD Engira Karuppudurai, starring Mu Ramaswamy. The story follows Kaalidhar, a middle-aged man who feels hurt and forgotten after overhearing his family's plan to leave him.
The man decides to leave home. During his journey, he meets Ballu, an 8-year-old orphan. Together, they travel across India to complete Kaalidhar's bucket list.
Kaalidhar Laapata has received positive reviews on Twitter (now X). Let's check out some of the comments.
'Some films entertain, a few stay with you -- Kaalidhar Laapata does both and more. Easily one of the most emotionally fulfilling and beautifully made films of the year,' wrote one user.
Another wrote, 'Kaalidhar Laapata is an endearing cinematic experience that seamlessly weaves together humor and emotional depth. With Abhishek Bachchan once again showcasing his impeccable taste in scripts, this film is a testament to his commitment to meaningful storytelling.'
'I've seen many great actors, but very few make you forget you're watching a performance. AB Jr did just that in Kaalidhar Laapata.
Utterly real and heartwarming,' came from another.
One of them posted, 'Where simplicity meets excellence. Exquisite, unpretentious acting confirm once again Abhishek Bachchan's plasticity to perform demanding roles above and beyond benchmarks. Keep going where no one dares to.'
'Heart touching film, Junior Bachchan OUTSTANDING Keep shining AB. Great performance Daivik Baghela as Ballu, Zeeshan Ayyub, Nimrat Kaur Too good. Kudos to Madhumita & Entire TEAM,' commented another.
Abhishek Bachchan's performance has been hailed by many critics.
'There is a fragility to the way he walks, talks, and smiles—making this one of his more nuanced performances in recent years,' Trisha Bhattacharya wrote on LiveMint.
'Ultimately, it is Abhishek Bachchan's moving performance that shoulder's the film's appeal. He subtly brings out Kaalidhar's vulnerable yet mature side which is central to the film's plot,' wrote Sreeparna Sengupta on The Times of India.
Shubhra Gupta praised the child actor more, when compared to Abhishek Bachchan. 'If his child co-star wasn't such a sparkler, it wouldn't have shown up the contrast so much,' Gupta wrote on The Indian Express.

Vikrant Massey feels Deepika Padukone ‘deserves' an 8-hour working shift as a ‘young mother', says he plans to do something similar soon

The conversation around limited working hours in the Hindi film industry has intensified following reports that Deepika Padukone exited director Sandeep Reddy Vanga's upcoming film Spirit because the makers did not let her have 8-hour workdays. Among the voices supporting a reform in Bollywood's hectic schedules is actor Vikrant Massey, who recently expressed solidarity with Deepika's stance. Vikrant, who shared the screen with Deepika in Meghna Gulzar's Chhapaak, acknowledged the challenges of implementing an eight-hour workday in a high-stakes industry like Bollywood, but also expressed a personal commitment to push for change. He shared that he would like to do something similar in the next couple of years and told Firstpost, 'I aspire to do something like that very soon. Maybe in a couple of years… I want to go out and say, we can collaborate, but I would only work for eight hours. But at the same time, it should be a choice. And if my producer cannot accommodate that, because there are also a lot of other things involved when you are making a film…' He further emphasised that fair trade-offs are necessary if the industry is to adopt more humane working conditions. 'Money plays a very important role, and I will have to reduce my fees as I will be working for eight hours instead of twelve. If I cannot give my producer twelve hours a day, I cannot go out there and not reduce my fee. I ought to reduce my fee. It's a give-and-take, right? And as a young mother, I think she (Deepika) deserves it.' She has since been replaced by Animal star Triptii Dimri. Amidst this entire controversy, several celebrities, including Ajay Devgn, Kajol, Saif Ali Khan, Neha Dhupia, Mani Ratnam, Vinay Pathak, Pankaj Tripathi, and Kabir Khan, have come out in support of Deepika's demand for an 8-hour shift. Vikrant is gearing up for the release of Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan, which marks Shanaya Kapoor's Bollywood debut. Deepika has recently signed Atlee's next reincarnation-themed action film starring Allu Arjun and will reportedly also be seen in Shah Rukh Khan's upcoming King, directed by Siddharth Anand.

It was the first time I saw her in person. I mean, we had already seen her during Miss World and all that." And I knew Mickey Contractor very well; he was doing her makeup and had done my mother's makeup as well. He had seen me as a kid. So we were all sitting together, and that's when I first met her. She tells me later that she didn't understand a word I said because I had a very heavy accent, apparently." Abhishek Bachchan On Being Affected By Social Media: "I Know What To Take Seriously And What Not To"

New Delhi: Abhishek Bachchan has been busy with the promotions of his OTT release Kaalidhar Laapata, which dropped on July 4, 2025, on Zee5. In a conversation with Instant Bollywood recently, the actor spoke about being impacted by what's being said about him on social media. What's Happening Abhishek Bachchan had an honest reply when asked about social media and its impact on him. Speaking about being in a family of actors, he told Instant Bollywood, "We talk many times about work, but that is not the main focus. There are other discussions on the table that happen as well. I have grown up in this film industry, so I also know what to take seriously and what not to take seriously. I don't get affected by what's happening on social media." He added, "Perhaps, Agastya [Nanda], who has just started out as an actor, he might get [affected]... because the generation is like that. But with time, one also develops a thick skin. One has to know that it is not the be-all or end-all of life." Online Buzz About Abhishek Bachchan And Aishwarya Rai Bachchan's Separation Rumours of a marital discord between Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai have dominated the entertainment industry headlines for over a year now. All this time, they chose to remain tight-lipped about speculation around their separation, but Abhishek Bachchan recently opened up about how putting out "negative news" is a new trolling trend. In an interview with Etimes, Abhishek Bachchan weighed in on the misinformation about him making the rounds on social media and why he chooses not to issue any clarification. "Previously, things that were said about me didn't affect me. Today, I have a family, and it's very upsetting. Even if I clarify something, people will turn it around. Because negative news sells. You're not me. You don't live my life. You're not answerable to the people that I'm answerable to." He added, "People who put out such negativity have to live with their conscience. They need to deal with their conscience and answer to their maker. See, it's not just me. I don't get affected. I know what the rigmarole of this place is. There are families involved. I'll give you a very good example of this whole new fad of trolling." In A Nutshell Abhishek Bachchan shed light on how he knows how to sift through social media chatter on what's important and what's not. He mentioned how growing up in a family of actors helped him to deal with it better.
