To ensure Canada remains a global leader in innovation, the Government of Canada is making strategic investments in businesses, organizations, entrepreneurs and leaders that are accelerating AI adoption and spurring economic growth.
Today, the Honourable Lena Metlege Diab, Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship and Member of Parliament for Halifax West, on behalf of the Honourable Sean Fraser, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada and the Minister responsible for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency, announced $2,506,250 to support artificial intelligence-related (AI) projects at three Halifax businesses.
They include: Liveable Cities, a division of LED Roadway Lighting Ltd., is receiving $2 million (repayable) over two years to develop an AI-powered streetlight controller and camera. The system will reduce energy use by up to 30 percent and provide real-time data to improve public safety. The project will create skilled jobs, support international growth, and position the company as a leader in smart city technology.
Oberland Agriscience Inc., is receiving $250,000 (repayable) to install AI-driven software and equipment that will boost production, improve efficiency, and reduce waste. The technology will enhance product quality, support new product development, and optimize formulations -reducing environmental impact and easing pressure on supply chains. Kindred AI Inc. is receiving $206,250 (repayable) and $50,000 (non-repayable) to advance its real-time emotional intelligence software. The funding will support product development, engineering, and commercialization, creating high-quality jobs. The company's tools help users track and grow emotional intelligence and can be embedded into other products. Kindred will expand key features, target new markets-including education and healthcare-and launch a marketing strategy to reach more clients and industries.

Whitecaps exercise buyout on F Damir Kreilach
Field Level Media 05 Jul 2025, 20:35 GMT+10 (Photo credit: Christopher Creveling-Imagn Images) The Vancouver Whitecaps have exercised a buyout of forward Damir Kreilach's guaranteed contract. The 36-year-old Croatian will no longer occupy a senior roster spot, and his wages won't count against the club's salary budget. 'Damir has been an exceptional leader and mentor over the past one and a half years,' sporting director Axel Schuster said Friday. 'Many of our young players, who are now making their mark in MLS, were so well prepared thanks to his steady presence and support in the locker room. 'We're incredibly grateful for the opportunity to have worked with Damir and wish him and his family all the very best in the future.' Kreilach contributed one goal in four matches (no starts) this season with Vancouver. His two-year totals with the Whitecaps included three goals in 21 matches (six starts). Kreilach racked up 47 goals in 151 MLS matches (133 starts) with Real Salt Lake from 2018-23. The 2021 MLS All-Star's career totals across all competitions include 60 goals and 20 assists in 199 appearances. Each MLS club is permitted two buyouts per season. --Field Level Media

Canada exports first cargo of LNG
Xinhua 01 Jul 2025, 12:15 GMT+10 OTTAWA, June 30 (Xinhua) -- LNG Canada on Monday loaded its first cargo of liquefied natural gas (LNG), marking the start of operations at Canada's first large-scale LNG export facility. According to a news release issued by LNG Canada, the new export facility is located in Kitimat, British Columbia, with a total capacity of 14 million tons per annum (MTPA), which is potentially to double in the future. Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney said that with LNG Canada's first shipment to Asia, Canada is exporting its energy products to reliable partners, diversifying trade and reducing global emissions. "At a time when the province's jobs are under attack," British Columbia Premier David Eby said, "it's more important than ever that we get our resources to global markets and reduce our reliance on the United States."
