KOTA KINABALU (July 5): The Indian Consular Application Centre (ICAC) officially opened its doors in Kota Kinabalu on July 5, heralding a new era of accessible and efficient consular services in Sabah.
This landmark occasion was officiated by Datuk V. Jothi JP, president of the Sabah Indian Chamber of Commerce (SICC), whose visionary leadership continues to drive impactful initiatives for the Indian community in Sabah. He was joined by deputy president, and SICC Management Committee members.
Located at Lot No. 53, Ground Floor, Asia City, the centre is operated by IVS Global Services under IVS VMS Malaysia, and offers a one-stop solution for a wide range of consular, passport, and visa services – all now available right in the heart of Kota Kinabalu.
From passport renewals to emergency documents, from visa processing, the ICAC brings India closer to home.
Key services include: New, renewal, replacement of passports; endorsements, name/address updates, and birth registration; renunciation of Indian citizenship and surrender certificates; police clearance, emergency certificates, and single status letters; attestation services (legal, educational, personal documents); comprehensive visa services.
The launch of ICAC is not just an administrative upgrade – it is a symbol of empowerment and progress for Indian nationals in Sabah, reducing dependency on distant centres and easing access to critical services.

The meetings will take place on the sidelines of the BRICS Leaders' Summit later today, Malaysian time. Anwar, who arrived here on Saturday, will meet Indian premier Narendra Modi at the Museum of Modern Art, after delivering his National Statement at the summit. Anwar meets Modi at BRICS summit in Rio to strengthen ties

RIO DE JANEIRO: Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim held a bilateral meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the BRICS Leaders' Summit in Rio de Janeiro. The leaders discussed strengthening economic and diplomatic ties between Malaysia and India. The meeting took place on Sunday, with both leaders attending the summit at the invitation of Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. This marks their second meeting since last year's ASEAN-India Summit in Laos. Anwar was joined by Malaysia's Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz, while India's External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar also participated. The discussions focused on enhancing trade relations, with Malaysia being India's third-largest trading partner in ASEAN. Total trade between the two nations reached USD20.02 billion in 2023-2024, making up 17 per cent of India's total trade with ASEAN. Malaysia's recent inclusion as a BRICS Partner Country on Jan 1 this year further strengthens its role in global economic cooperation. Anwar arrived in Rio de Janeiro on Saturday to attend the 17th BRICS summit, where leaders from emerging economies discuss key global issues. - Bernama
