Photographer's Car Damaged By Explosion Debris While Covering Fire In Masai, Johor
JOHOR BAHRU, June 21 (Bernama) -- A car belonging to a photographer from the Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) was damaged after being hit by explosion debris while he was covering a fire at a lorry and engine oil storage facility at Jalan Cenderai 27, Taman Kota Puteri, Masai, here today.
Mohd Hilmizudin Daud, 34, who is based at the Johor Bureau, did not expect that debris from the explosion would damage his Perodua Kelisa, which was parked about 100 metres from the scene.
He said the debris broke the left-side wing mirror and left dents and scratches on the same side of the car.
Mohd Hilmizudin, a father of one who is expecting a second child in early July, said he had no choice but to come to terms with the damage to the car that had been his faithful companion on countless assignments for the past three years.
'I only realised my car was damaged around 7 pm after I had completed my assignment. While I was shooting, there were many explosions and barrels even flew into the air, which I managed to capture.
'When I reached my car and started the engine to reverse, I noticed the left wing mirror was missing. Initially, I thought it had been folded back because someone might have leaned against the car,' he told Bernama.
Mohd Hilmizudin said he had rushed to the scene with his colleague, reporter Nur Fadhliana Shaari, at around 2 pm after being informed of the incident. He was relieved that they were not injured while at the scene.
'This is the first time something like this has happened in my 11 years as a Bernama photographer.

Two Enforcement Officers Arrested At BSI CIQ Over 'Flying Passport' Misconduct
Among the items seized following the arrest of two enforcement officers suspected of involvement in the 'Flying Passport' misconduct at the Customs, Immigration and Quarantine (CIQ) Complex, Sultan Iskandar Building (BSI) today. JOHOR BAHRU, July 26 (Bernama) -- Two enforcement officers were arrested at the Bangunan Sultan Iskandar (BSI) Customs, Immigration and Quarantine (CIQ) Complex here last night for alleged involvement in a 'Flying Passport' misconduct. The practice typically refers to the misuse of passports, including clearing them illegally without the holders being physically present. Malaysia Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) BSI CIQ commander Roszita Dim said the suspects, a 31-year-old officer and a 49-year-old supervisor, were detained at 9 pm following surveillance by the agency's Compliance Unit. She said surveillance at 7.30 pm detected several suspicious visitor data entries using the user identification (ID) of an officer manning the car zone counter. 'The unit also detected foreign visitor records classified as problematic, requiring error correction by the on-duty supervisor and clearance of these records using the supervisor's user ID at the motorcycle zone,' she told a press conference at the CIQ today. Further inspection at the car counter uncovered RM2,800 in cash and two mobile phones in the officer's possession. Interrogation led to the discovery of 11 Chinese passports and three Indonesian passports hidden in a black bag above the ceiling of another counter. Roszita said two additional mobile phones were also seized from the motorcycle zone supervisor's counter. Both suspects were handed over to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Johor at about 10 am today for further action. The case has also been reported to the AKPS Integrity Unit in Putrajaya. 'Our surveillance was carried out for about a week. Whether this misconduct involves a syndicate is still under investigation,' she added.

Teo Warns Public Of RM100 SARA Scam Links Asking For Personal Details
MUAR, July 25 (Bernama) -- The public is urged to remain vigilant against fraudulent links circulated by scammers related to the one-off RM100 cash assistance under the Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (SARA) initiative, which are designed to collect personal information, said Deputy Communications Minister Teo Nie Ching. She said the scammers often employ deceptive tactics by sharing links accompanied by posters that appear convincing, incorporating official-looking elements such as the Malaysia MADANI and Bersama Malaysiaku logos to mislead recipients. 'One such example is the link which falsely claims to provide official information about the RM100 SARA aid and prompts users to submit their personal information. The Ministry of Finance confirmed yesterday that this link is fake,' she said.

Speaking at the GAIKINDO Indonesia International Auto Show, Nangoi acknowledged that domestic car sales continue to face challenges. However, he remains optimistic that the decline will not be as severe as last year. "Domestic sales are down. But I still hope to reach 800,000 units," he said. According to GAIKINDO data, total wholesale car distribution, defined as new vehicles shipped from factories to dealers, reached 374,740 units in the first half of this year. Despite the slowdown in local demand, Nangoi emphasised that the automotive industry remains resilient, with export growth playing an increasingly important role in supporting the sector through the rest of the year. He added that continued policy support, government stimulus, and efforts to access new markets are expected to boost the competitiveness of vehicles manufactured in Indonesia. "In business, ups and downs are inevitable. But we believe that this industry has the strength to overcome difficult times and will emerge stronger," Nangoi noted. - Bernama-Xinhua
