Mitsubishi is recalling nearly 2 lakh SUVs in US over software issues

Time of India13-06-2025
Mitsubishi
has recalled nearly 200,000 SUVs in the US due to a software issue that causes the rearview camera to freeze, which could increase the risk of a crash. The Japanese car maker announced this recall on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) website. Mitsubishi reported the recall earlier this month as the company stated that this is an expansion of a similar recall issued in May 2023, identified as recall no. 23V345. The issue specifically involves the rearview camera freezing during operation. Here are all the details about the SUV models that have been recalled and how Mitsubishi is working to fix the issue

The affected models include 2022–2024 Outlander and 2023–2025 Outlander PHEV SUVs, bringing the total impacted vehicles to an estimated 198,940.
The problem originates from improperly programmed software that can trigger a black screen when the driver shifts into reverse within 40 seconds of startup or remains in reverse for more than six seconds.

These same symptoms prompted a smaller recall in May 2023 covering some 2022–2023 Outlander and Outlander PHEV models, but reports of camera freezes and screen reboots persisted through early 2024.
Dealers first flagged audio-control issues in mid-2023, followed by recurrent software lockups and display blackouts.
After investigating customer complaints—six field reports and 358 warranty claims—Mitsubishi concluded on May 23, 2025, that a new recall was necessary.
Owners whose vehicles were previously repaired under recall 23V345 will require this updated software as well. Going forward, all Outlanders built after April 22, 2025, will ship with the corrected software.
Mitsubishi will notify dealers starting June 16 and mail owner notification letters on June 30. Dealers will perform the software update free of charge.
Owners who incur reasonable expenses due to the recall will receive instructions in their notification letter for reimbursement through Mitsubishi's Customer Relations Department.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration lists this action as recall number 25V369000; Mitsubishi's internal reference is SR-25-001.

Noida Authority set to build 35 traffic booths in city

Noida: The Noida Authority is planning to construct around 35 modern traffic booths across the city to enhance the working conditions of traffic personnel and streamline vehicular movement in high-traffic zones. These booths will be installed at those points where traffic volume is consistently high, particularly during peak hours. These include busy intersections, roundabouts, and identified "dark spots" where traffic regulation is currently hampered due to the absence of infrastructure. You Can Also Check: Noida AQI | Weather in Noida | Bank Holidays in Noida | Public Holidays in Noida On Monday, a private company made a detailed presentation to the Authority, showcasing the design and layout of the proposed booths. Authority officials have nearly finalised the design and are expected to float tenders for construction soon. "These booths are crucial to protect traffic personnel from extreme weather conditions while also offering them a vantage point to manage traffic more effectively," said a senior Authority official. In June, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Lakhan Singh Yadav, wrote a letter to the Authority mentioning about 30 key locations for the booths. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Cardiologists: Teaspoon On an Empty Stomach Slims Waist from 36 To 22 Health Wellness Journal Learn more Undo This number has now gone up. The Authority plans to install the traffic booths in high-density areas like NTPC Flyover, Sector 62 Underpass, Sector 15 Metro Hospital Chowk, Film City Flyover, DND Loop, Mahamaya Flyover, Shashi Chowk, Parthla Roundabout, and Sector 104 Hydel Roundabout. Each booth costs approximately Rs 1.5 lakh, totaling Rs 50–55 lakh. These booths will serve as shelters and operational posts to improve traffic monitoring and ease congestion, especially during peak hours, accidents, or rainfall, given Noida's heavy daily vehicle movement from Delhi and nearby districts. The Authority plans to complete the construction and installation of the booths over the next few months, pending the finalisation of the tendering process.

Elon Musk's Tesla ordered to pay over $240 million for Autopilot crash case; company says ‘This was never about…'

Representative Image A US court has found Elon Musk's electric vehicle (EV) company, Tesla, partially liable for a fatal 2019 Autopilot crash. The Miami jury has ordered the EV maker to pay a portion of the $329 million in damages awarded to the family of the deceased and an injured survivor. The jury held Tesla responsible for 33% of the crash's fault. The total damages include $129 million in compensatory damages and $200 million in punitive damages. Based on the jury's decision, Tesla will be responsible for paying nearly $42.5 million in compensatory damages. However, as punitive damages were exclusively assessed against Tesla, plaintiffs' attorneys expect the company to pay the full $200 million, potentially bringing its total payment to around $242.5 million. Tesla has stated its intention to appeal the decision. What Tesla said about the Autopilot crash order In a statement to CNBC, Tesla confirmed that it will appeal the decision. The company said: 'Today's verdict is wrong and only works to set back automotive safety and jeopardize Tesla's and the entire industry's efforts to develop and implement life-saving technology. We plan to appeal given the substantial errors of law and irregularities at trial. Even though this jury found that the driver was overwhelmingly responsible for this tragic accident in 2019, the evidence has always shown that this driver was solely at fault because he was speeding, with his foot on the accelerator – which overrode Autopilot – as he rummaged for his dropped phone without his eyes on the road. To be clear, no car in 2019, and none today, would have prevented this crash. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like The boy meets a dog on the street - no one expected what happened next. The trial, which began last month in Florida, focused on a fatal 2019 crash involving Tesla's Enhanced Autopilot system. George McGee, the Tesla driver, dropped his phone and assumed the Autopilot would brake if needed. Instead, the car accelerated through an intersection at over 60 mph, hitting a parked car and its owners. Naibel Benavides, 22, was killed, and her boyfriend, Dillon Angulo, was seriously injured. Plaintiffs' attorneys had sought $345 million in damages. In an emailed statement, Brett Schreiber, one of the plaintiffs' counsel, said: 'Tesla designed Autopilot only for controlled access highways yet deliberately chose not to restrict drivers from using it elsewhere, alongside Elon Musk telling the world Autopilot drove better than humans. Tesla's lies turned our roads into test tracks for their fundamentally flawed technology, putting everyday Americans like Naibel Benavides and Dillon Angulo in harm's way.'
