Will Guerby Lambert Miss The Season - Notre Dame Football Midweek Mailbag originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
Wednesday is Mailbag Day on IB Nation Sports Talk. Irish Breakdown answers listener questions about Notre Dame football and more on today's show. Some of today's topics include:
* Is Irish offensive lineman Guerby Lambert out for the season?
* Will ESPN's College Game Day be at the Notre Dame - USC game if it looks like it will be the last game between the two rivals?
* Does Aneyas Williams' presence on third downs hurt Jeremiyah Love and Jadarian Price's NFL Draft stock?
* Do the Irish have a field goal kicker?
* Should Notre Dame pursue more dual kicker/punters considering new roster limits?
*What Notre Dame position groups are we most excited about this season?
* More!
There's even more to discuss and debate in Rapid Fire as well. See the list of topics below!
* Notre Dame and Arkansas will kickoff at Noon Eastern Time when the Irish visit the Razorbacks on Sept. 27th. Are you In or Out on the early start?
* Fill-in the blank: Notre Dame greats Todd Lyght and Manti Te'o are on the 2026 College Football Hall of Fame ballot and it's BLANK that Lyght is not already in the Hall.
* Is there any reason Te'o shouldn't be inducted this year?
* Fill-in the blank: It's BLANK that former Notre Dame women's basketball teammates Hannah Hidalgo and Olivia Miles are among 21 players competing to make the Team USA roster for the FIBA AmeriCup Team.
* Fill-in the blank: Notre Dame men's basketball hosting DePaul in an exhibition game in September is BLANK.
* Major rule changes are on the way for both men's and women's college basketball this upcoming season. Both men's and women's coaches will now be able to challenge calls.

In the men's game, coaches will now be able to challenge: Reviewing 'out-of-bounds calls, basket interference/goaltending and whether a secondary defender was in the restricted-area arc.'
Teams will need to use a timeout to challenge and if the challenge is successful, they'll be allowed one additional review for the rest of the game, including overtime.
The NCAA says the changes in men's basketball aim to 'enhance the flow of the game.'
-Do you Buy or Sell it?
* In the women's game: Coaches will be issued a challenge, but their rules are different.
Coaches will be able to challenge 'ruled out-of-bounds violations, ruled backcourt violations, whether a change in team possession occurred before the ruling of a foul where free throws would be involved, and whether a foul was assessed to the correct player.

But for the women, teams will not need to have a timeout to challenge. But instead, if you lose your challenge it will result in a technical foul for 'an excessive timeout.'
-Do you Buy or Sell that?
* Oakland A's centerfielder Denzel Clarke went up over the wall on a Statcast-projected 398-foot drive hit by Anaheim's Nolan Schanuel to rob him of a home run. Do you Buy or Sell that catch as more impressive than Derek Jeter's more famous running catch when he fell into the stands at Yankee Stadium?

Dodgers' Max Muncy Matches a Record Set by Jimmie Foxx in 1938

Dodgers' Max Muncy Matches a Record Set by Jimmie Foxx in 1938 originally appeared on Athlon Sports. As of Wednesday, Los Angeles Dodgers third baseman Max Muncy has notched a series of impressive feats that have snowballed into one accomplishment so rare, it has only been done once in an MLB season. While it took a Hall-of-Famer the course of an entire season to do it, Muncy did it in under a month. Advertisement In a post on X, OptaSTATS pointed out that since May 31, Muncy had recorded three games of 6+ RBIs, three multi-home run games, two games with 7+ RBIs, two games with multiple home runs of the 3-run or more variety, and two grand slams. OptaSTATS noted that, 'The only other player in MLB history to do all of that over an entire season was Jimmie Foxx during his 1938 MVP campaign.' Hitting .250/.375/.454 with 12 home runs, chances are Muncy won't be an MVP this year, but since donning prescription eyewear on April 30, we have seen a new Muncy (and not the one with the A's). Prior to his eyesight revelation, Muncy was hitting .180 with no home runs. In the month of June alone, Muncy is hitting .328/.459/.642 with six home runs entering Friday's bout against the Royals. Los Angeles Dodgers third baseman Max Muncy (13) looks on during batting practice before a game against the Kansas City Royals at Kauffman Aiken-Imagn Images In the blink of a perfectly seeing eye, Muncy's bat exploded, and all trade rumors replacing him have ceased. A hot streak such as this isn't too uncommon for Muncy, who often has experienced hot and cold streaks. Whether he can sustain his torrid pace with his newfound eyesight or not remains to be seen, but every Dodgers fan can truly appreciate the history he has made since the end of May. British and Irish Lions dominate Force in the opening game of their Australian tour

PERTH, Australia (AP) — Dan Sheehan made the perfect start on debut for the British and Irish Lions. The Ireland hooker led the Lions for the first game of their Australian tour, scored in the second minute and steered the team to a commanding 54-7 win over the Perth-based Western Force on Saturday. After an arm-wrestle of a first half where the Lions led 21-7 despite having only 40% of possession and spending most of the time in their own half, the bigger, more polished British and Irish lineup opened up and put five unanswered tries on a tiring defense in the second. Scrumhalf Tomos Williams scored a pair of tries before limping off with a left hamstring issue, fullback Elliot Daly scored two tries and flyhalf Finn Russell created two tries with his spur-of-the-moment judgement. He also kicked five goals. Henry Pollock, the 20-year-old England No. 8, played an integral hand in two tries and also spent 10 minutes in the sin-bin in his eventful debut start for the Lions. Early exchanges The Lions made changes after a 28-24 loss to Argentina in a warmup last week in Dublin, putting more emphasis on short, sharp passing. The Lions had the ball for 11 phases until Russell kicked high and wide to the right touchline where Sheehan took the ball high and tapped infield for winger James Low, who flicked an inside pass back to him to score. The Force equalized quickly after 14 phases of attack with veteran Wallabies scrumhalf Nic White sniping over from the base of a ruck in the fifth minute. The Force opted against taking penalty goals in order to keep up attacking intensity but the Lions held firm and relieved pressure with some crucial turnovers. Flyhalf Russell set up the first try with his pinpoint kick wide and the third with a quick penalty tap and go in the 35th, scooting up to the five-yard line before popping up a ball off the ground for fullback Daly to score. In between, Pollock was instrumental in the Lions' second try, bursting onto a sharp inside ball from openside flanker Josh van der Flier, stepping inside and out and going to ground before popping a ball up to scrumhalf Williams to score. The tourists went into halftime with a man down after Pollock was yellow carded for a ruck infringement deep inside his own quarter. The Force crossed the line from the resulting penalty but were held up. Williams finished off an 80-meter counter-attacking try seven minutes into the second half. Both wingers were involved, with Lowe making an initial break and then exchanging passes with Williams at the end. Williams limped off after scoring, and was replaced by Alex Mitchell. The Lions' attacking intent led directly to Garry Ringrose's try soon after that gave the Lions a 33-7 lead. Pollock, the youngest member of the Lions squad, was back in the attack quickly, chipping over the defense, regathering and almost scoring himself before the Lions shifted it quickly through the hands for lock Joe McCarthy to score out wide in the 55th. Daly scored in the 71st minute after sustained attack to help the Lions take a 40-point buffer. It was extended to 47 when Mitchell scored after the siren, taking the last pass from Australian-born Ireland winger Mack Hansen to put the final touches on the victory. The Lions are playing nine games in their first tour to Australia since 2013, including tests in Brisbane on July 19, in Melbourne on July 26 and in Sydney on Aug. 2.
