The VW Passat just got far more appealing with £5k of options for free
Volkswagen has updated the line-up of the plug-in hybrid version of the Passat by adding two new versions, called Match and Black Edition. The company claims that up to £4,905 of options now come free of charge. Joining the mid-range £47,650 Elegance, the entry-level Match replaces the old Life trim, but costs the same £45,555. The Black Edition costs the same as the outgoing R-Line, from £48,900, and Volkswagen says the new editions can be ordered from 14 August. Match is better equipped than the outgoing Life, with additional features including metallic paint, VW's LED matrix headlights, tinted rear windows and an 'assistance pack' which adds area view and emergency assist. Advertisement - Article continues below The new Black Edition comes with metallic paint, 19-inch alloy wheels, a panoramic sunroof, tinted rear windows (darker than the Match's), heated front and rear seats, a head-up display, a 15-inch central touchscreen and the same assistance pack as the Match. The new Match and Black Edition trims are offered only on the PHEV Passat, which uses a 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine mated to a plug-in hybrid system featuring a 19.7kWh battery – enough for an 82-mile electric-only range. The pricing quoted above is based on the 201bhp Passat eHybrid, but from £50,370 you also can get the more potent 268bhp version starting with Elegance trim. Over half of under 30s have considered emigrating under Labour amid housing and money worries
More than half of under-30s have considered leaving Britain under Labour as they feel 'overtaxed, underhoused and undervalued', according to new research. Britons aged between 18 and 30 said they have 'serious concerns' about the state of their personal finances, housing and their future in the UK. Some 28 per cent of young people are either actively planning (eight per cent) or have seriously considered (20 per cent) emigrating, according to The Adam Smith Institute poll. A further 30 per cent have briefly considered it and just 35 per cent of young people said they had never thought about leaving the UK, the think tank's survey carried out between July 8-10 found. Researchers said: 'With young people feeling increasingly disenchanted, it is clear that meaningful change is needed to prevent them from joining the UK's ongoing wealth exodus.' Responding to the data, Reform UK Nigel Farage told the Telegraph: 'It's sad but not a surprise that ambitious young Brits are increasingly looking overseas for opportunities. 'High taxes and stagnant wages have crushed aspiration and punished hard work. This can't go on. We must give the next generation the freedom to thrive, raise families, and build a bright future here in the UK.' Some 65 per cent of young people believe it will be 'more difficult' to find affordable housing in the next five years and a further 38 per cent said it will become 'much more difficult'. Just 21 per cent of young Britons think the housing situation will get easier in the next five years, the poll found. These concerns cut across political divides as voters from all major parties expressed fears about housing and financial security. Some 63 per cent of young Conservatives, 65 per cent of Labour and 68 per cent of Reform UK young voters said access to affordable housing will worsen, The Adam Smith Institute poll found. Emma Schubart, data and insights manager at the think tank, said: 'The youngest generation of British workers are sending a clear message. 'They feel overtaxed, underhoused and undervalued. If our political class continues to ignore these warning signs, we risk exporting our talent at precisely the moment when it is most needed. 'With the country already facing a wealth exodus thanks, in large part, to its reckless decision to scrap the non-dom tax regime, the Treasury can hardly afford to lose an entire generation of ambitious young people as well. 'Addressing these challenges is not just a matter of fairness - it is essential to securing Britain's long-term economic and social future. 'Young Britons urgently need evidence that ambition and hard work still translate into security and success in this country.'

Crystal Palace told when they will discover their European fate after appealing against Europa League demotion
Crystal Palace will learn their European fate within a fortnight. The Eagles have taken UEFA to the Court of Arbitration for Sport after they were demoted from the Europa League to the Conference League last month for falling foul of the governing body's rules on multi-club ownership. And CAS have now announced that their appeal will be heard next Friday, August 8, with a verdict due on the following Monday, August 11. Palace want the decision overturned and are also appealing the decision to admit Nottingham Forest and French side Lyon into the Europa League. Forest, who were in the Conference League, took Palace's place following their demotion. As Mail Sport revealed earlier this week, City Ground officials will be sending a legal team to the Swiss showdown to represent themselves. FA Cup winners Palace were removed from the Europa League because Lyon, who were owned by US businessman John Textor, were already in the competition and had finished higher in their domestic league last season. Textor's Eagle Football Holdings also held a 43 per cent stake in Palace and a UEFA panel ruled that the situation had broken their rules. Palace are expected to deny that Textor, who has since sold his stake to fellow American Woody Johnson, held a position of influence at the club as his firm only had a 25 per cent share of voting rights. They are also set to claim that double standards have been at play by UEFA given their belief that Forest were allowed extra time to comply with the rules, whereas Palace were held to a March 1 deadline. They want UEFA to disclose documents which they are confident will illustrate how both clubs received differing treatment. Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis effectively placed the English side into blind trust on April 29 when there was a risk it may qualify for the Champions League alongside his Greek outfit Olympiakos. The draw for the Conference League play-off, which Palace are currently due to be in, takes place next Monday. The first leg is to be held on August 21.
