Gregg Wallace response in full as he's sacked by BBC following 'unwanted touching' probe

Gregg Wallace has issued a response after a report was published into claims of "unwanted touching"
Gregg Wallace has spoken out following the release of a report investigating misconduct allegations against him. The former MasterChef host, aged 60, had previously stated he would "not go quietly" after being dismissed from the BBC programme by its production company, Banijay.
Today, Monday, July 14, Gregg Wallace responded to the findings of the MasterChef review, stating that he "challenged" the upheld groping allegation against him, but was unsuccessful.

The presenter maintained that "none of the serious allegations against me were upheld" despite the review finding him guilty of "unwanted touching" and three instances of being in "a state of undress".

He also criticised the BBC for not providing sufficient support to help him change his behaviour, warning of further issues in the future.
"In the end, the BBC left me exposed to trial by media and the damage it leaves in its wake. To those who've shown kindness, thank you. It mattered."
The dismissed television personality described the past eight months as 'brutal' and expressed deep regret for the distress caused. Over 50 individuals came forward with allegations of misconduct against him, reports the Mirror.
Breaking his silence on the report's conclusions, Wallace's statement to the PA News Agency read in full: "For eight months, my family and I have lived under a cloud. Trial by media, fuelled by rumour and clickbait.
"None of the serious allegations against me were upheld, I challenged the remaining issue of unwanted touching but have had to accept a difference in perception, and I am deeply sorry for any distress caused. It was never intended.

"I'm relieved that the Banijay report fully recognises that my behaviour changed profoundly in 2018. Some of my humour and language missed the mark. I never set out to harm or humiliate. I always tried to bring warmth and support to MasterChef, on screen and off.
"After nearly 20 years on the show, I now see that certain patterns, shaped by traits I've only recently begun to understand, may have been misread. I also accept that more could have been done, by others and by myself, to address concerns earlier.
"A late autism diagnosis has helped me understand how I communicate and how I'm perceived. I'm still learning."

He went on to say: "Banijay have given me great support, and I thank them. But in the end, the BBC left me exposed to trial by media and the damage it leaves in its wake. To those who've shown kindness, thank you. It mattered.
"This has been brutal. For a working-class man with a direct manner, modern broadcasting has become a dangerous place. I was the headline this time. But I won't be the last."

"There will be more casualties if the BBC continues down this path, where protecting its legacy matters more than protecting people. For my part, with full legal support, I will consider my next move."
The investigation by law firm Lewis Silkin categorised the complaints into seven distinct groups. Out of the 45 complaints that were substantiated, 12 involved inappropriate remarks (jokes and innuendo), 16 pertained to sexually explicit comments, three related to states of undress, two concerned sexualised comments directed at or regarding someone, four were about cultural insensitivity or racism, seven were connected to bullying, and one involved unwanted physical contact.
On Sunday, the BBC expressed its approval of the findings from Lewis Silkin and made it clear that Gregg had been notified that "we have no plans to work with him in future".

The broadcaster released a statement noting: "The investigation details a substantial number of allegations of inappropriate conduct spanning 19 years. This behaviour falls below the values of the BBC and the expectations we have for anyone who works with or for us.
"Although the full extent of these issues were not known at the relevant time, opportunities were missed to address this behaviour – both by the production companies running MasterChef and the BBC. We accept more could and should have been done sooner."
The BBC also highlighted that two further allegations concerning "other individuals" associated with MasterChef required immediate attention from the production company.
"Lewis Silkin's findings include two further allegations which were upheld, relating to other individuals," it went on. "The BBC takes these findings very seriously and we have asked Banijay UK to take action to address these issues, which is underway. This will be completed as a priority."

Masterchef host says he found out about sacking from reading media reports

John Torode stated he learned of his "sacking" from media reports and maintains he has no recollection of the alleged incident. The celebrity chef, 59, said he had not heard from the BBC or the production company Banijay UK. BBC Director-General Tim Davie condemned the "serious racist term" and affirmed the BBC's commitment to upholding its values. The allegation was substantiated by an independent investigation conducted by law firm Lewis Silkin, commissioned by production company Banijay UK. Both the BBC and Banijay UK have stated they will not tolerate racist language and are firm on the decision not to renew Torode's contract.

John Torode 'found out about MasterChef axe on BBC News' as star claims he wasn't told

Former MasterChef judge John Torode reportedly learned of his fate via the BBC News website after the corporation and Bandijay released a statement John Torode reportedly learned of the end of his MasterChef career through the BBC News website. The TV chef recently claimed he was never contacted by the BBC or MasterChef's production company about their decision not to renew his contract on the cooking programme he's been part of for 20 years. ‌ Last night, Torode confirmed he was the person alleged to have used racist language amid an investigation into his former co-star Gregg Wallace's behaviour. Torode claimed he had no memory of making the comment and denies it ever happened, but the BBC and Banijay both released statements on the situation as they confirmed he was axed from the programme. ‌ READ MORE: 'Life changing' 48p-a-day supplement that gets rid of fatigue and leaves tummy 'flatter' ‌ Banijay said that they took "this matter incredibly seriously" as they detailed the "highly offensive racist language". The 59-year-old soon took to his Instagram page to claim they never reached out to him about his contract. In a statement shared on social media, he claimed: "Although I haven't heard from anyone at the BBC or Banijay - I am seeing and reading that I've been "sacked" from MasterChef and I repeat that I have no recollection of what I'm accused of. "The enquiry could not even state the date or year of when I am meant to have said something wrong. ‌ "I'd hoped that I'd have some say in my exit from a show I've worked on since its relaunch in 2005, but events in last few days seem to have prevented that." And now, a source claim Torode was "blindsided" by the news and learned of his fate through the BBC News website. ‌ 'John's agent received a call 11 minutes before the statements went out and hadn't had a chance to call him," an insider claimed to The Sun. 'He read about it on the BBC News website." The Mirror have reached out to his reps for comment. Speaking of their decision to axe Torode, the BBC said on Tuesday: "John Torode has identified himself as having an upheld allegation of using racist language against him. This allegation, which involves an extremely offensive racist term being used in the workplace, was investigated and substantiated by the independent investigation led by the law firm, Lewis Silkin. John Torode denies the allegation. ‌ "He has stated he has no recollection of the alleged incident and does not believe that it happened. He also says that any racial language is wholly unacceptable in any environment. "The BBC takes this upheld finding extremely seriously. We will not tolerate racist language of any kind and, as we have already said, we told Banijay UK, the makers of MasterChef, that action must be taken. John Torode's contract on MasterChef will not be renewed.'

ITV Love Island fans 'disgusted' as sex scenes air between islanders

Viewers were left "disgusted" by one couple's antics after they narrowly avoided being dumped from the villa. Love Island viewers were left stunned as the show broadcast a racy bedroom scene between Harrison and his partner Lauren. The duo had a narrow escape from being booted off Love Island after Shakira and Ty decided to send Tommy and Lucy packing, sparing Harrison and Lauren along with Conor and Emma. ‌ It appeared that Harrison and Lauren chose to mark their stay in the villa with an intimate celebration in the bedroom, prompting 'disgust' among fans when Harrison was heard asking Harry for a condom. ‌ As night fell on the villa, the night cam captured Harrison reaching out to Harry and Helena's bed, enquiring: "Do you have a condom?" Harry and Helena burst into laughter, with Helena quickly retrieving one from a drawer and Harry handing it over. ‌ The couple then disappeared under the covers, engaging in a kiss as the cameras shifted focus to them. But the audience was far from amused, particularly since Harrison had mentioned he was still in contact with his ex, Toni, reports the Mirror. On X, previously known as Twitter, one viewer expressed their disbelief: "Did Harry just pass a condom to Lauren and Harrison? ? ? ! I didn't know I was watching too hot to handle". Another equally astonished fan commented: "I have never. In all my years seen someone ask for a condom on # loveisland. Like yayyyyy for sexual safety but that is tooooooooooo raz. "Do you have a condom? Is going to haunt me until the day that I die #LoveIsland," a third viewer remarked. ‌ Another added: "'Do you have a condom?' That is disgusting work. What is wrong with that man." In tonight's captivating episode of Love Island, the villa was abuzz with no opportunity for a breather. The Islanders faced a dramatic recoupling hot on the heels of a double bombshell dumping. ‌ The episode kicked off with an emotional farewell to Tommy and Lucy, who were sent packing after being deemed the least compatible by fellow Islanders Shakira and Ty. This follows last night's shock exit of Ben and Andrada, who received a sudden text decreeing their departure as the least compatible couple - a decision made shortly after they coupled up during Casa Amor's events. ‌ Ben had since been seen grappling with doubts over Andrada's sincerity after she developed a bond with Dejon while in the secondary villa. But in a twist, Toni disclosed to Lauren that she had "washed her hands" of Harrison, suggesting she'd surrendered any romantic claim over him. Later scenes showed Harrison taking Toni to the terrace to express his strong feelings for her, which she eventually gave into, choosing her former flame over Cach - the Islander she took back into the villa from Casa Amor.
