Rouge Bouillon In St Helier has reopened after emergency works to fix the "sudden appearance" of a road surface depression, the States of Jersey "slight dip" in the pavement needed immediate attention to protect public safety, the government states' infrastructure and environment team said the concave depression near the pavement was probably caused by "the recent spell of hot weather, which may have triggered a failure in the asphalt".The government said the road was monitored regularly after a sinkhole appeared in 2024 and the road was closed on Thursday evening for repairs. In December 2024 a sinkhole caused cracks to appear in the walls of a building on the corner of Clarendon Road and Rouge Bouillon, at the bottom of La Pouquelaye after a water main burst. I&E said the building was considered unsafe due to a risk of was poured into the road to underpin the building and the road reopened in May.

Jersey secondary school to close early due to hot weather
A secondary school in Jersey will close at midday due to rising temperatures, its acting headteacher has Vallée School said students would be dismissed from 12:20 BST due to the weather forecast predicting the "hottest day of the year so far".Jersey Met has said temperatures could hit 30C (86F) with a UV 7 index. Jersey saw its hottest day in June on record last month, as temperatures rose above 33C (91.4F).In a letter to parents and carers, Rob Allsopp said closing the school was in the interests of safety for everyone. He said: "In the interest of student and staff wellbeing, we have made the decision to close the school early. "There will be no lunch service available, however, food and refreshments will be available for purchase during the morning break."The school said it would be making supervision arrangements for students with carers who would prefer them to remain in school until its usual finish time of 15:00 Allsopp added that its activities week would still be going ahead "to end the school year on a high".

Jersey's Rouge Bouillon road closed for urgent repairs
Rouge Bouillon road in St Helier will be closed to traffic on Thursday evening for "urgent repair works". The Government of Jersey said Rouge Bouillon would close from 18:30 to 23:00 BST because a "new road surface depression" had been identified. The government said it had been "vigilant in monitoring" the road after a sinkhole was discovered in Infrastructure and Environment Department said the closure was only a precautionary measure to protect public safety. "It is anticipated that the repair works can be completed tonight", it said.
