The Architecture of Football: RIBA & Tate Liverpool Unveil Fall 2025 Exhibition

Hypebeast2 days ago
In partnership with theTate Liverpool, theRoyal Institute of British Architects (RIBA)presents a Fall 2025 exhibition centered on a quintessentially English sporting culture. 'Home Ground: The Architecture of Football' at Gallery One of Tate Liverpool traces the historical development of football stadium design, dating from the 1890s to the present day.
Featuring more than 50 global football stadiums, the Fall 2025 exhibit will dive into the stories and plans for some of the world's most important football venues. As the city prepares for the eventual opening of the Hill Dickinson Stadium in Liverpool in 2027, a wealth of architectural models, photographs, and other archival materials will grant visitors insight into the architectural considerations that form the stadium experience and the accompanying social culture of football fandom.
'Football has a unique ability to stir emotions, cross borders and captivate the world,' shared RIBA President, Muyiwa Oki in a statement. 'At their best, stadiums are as iconic as the players themselves, etched into the hearts of fans long after the final whistle. For architects, they offer a rare opportunity to help shape the beautiful game.'
From Everton to Chelsea, the exhibit will start at the foundations of modern stadiums led by early designers like Archibald Leitch, one of the foremost club architects in the early 20th century. RIBA then offers a snapshot of modern stadiums designed by firms like BDP, Populous, Herzog & de Meuron, gmp von Gerkan, Marg and Partners Architects.
'From the red and blue cauldron of Barcelona's Nou Camp to the iconic arch of Wembley rising in the backdrop of London, great design can amplify atmosphere, heighten drama and leave a lasting mark on a city's skylines,' Oki added.
The Home Ground exhibition will be open from October 15, 2025, to January 6, 2026. Information and tickets will be available atthe official Tate website.

Arne Slot identifies Liverpool's Trent Alexander-Arnold replacement

Arne Slot has suggested Florian Wirtz can replace Trent Alexander-Arnold as a major Liverpool creative force after the record signing enjoying a first Anfield outing for his new club. Wirtz was an impressive performer in helping the Reds beat Athletic Bilbao 3-2 in the second of their friendly double-header against the Spanish side on Monday evening. The 22-year-old, a £116million arrival from Bayer Leverkusen this summer, was afforded a strong ovation from the home crowd on his substitution during the second half. And Slot has backed the Germany international to help fill void left by Alexander-Arnold's departure to Real Madrid after the end of last season. 'We have added a few extra weapons. 'Florian has a lot of creativity in the final third. We have lost with Trent a lot of creativity from the back, Trent's crosses and picking out runners was so special. 'I think Florian has this quality as well in a totally different position but he brings that creativity.' Wirtz was one of five summer signings to start the second friendly, joining striker Hugo Ekitike, goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili and full-backs Milos Kerkez and Jeremie Frimpong. Ekitike was making only his second pre-season appearance since signing from Eintracht Frankfurt for an initial £69million, and created the first goal for Mohamed Salah. And Slot added: 'We have lost two quality players with Diogo (Jota) and Luis Diaz, but we have added Hugo – definitely a player that is going to be a very good player for us. Rio (Ngumoha) has been showing good things every time in pre-season. 'The pace of Hugo, the pace of both full-backs, Milos and Jeremie today. 'You need to make in everything you do the next step because our competitors are not sitting still as well. They are trying to improve as well and made a lot of signings like we all have done. So it's going to be a really interesting Premier League.' Cody Gakpo scored twice either side of netting an own goal to ensure Liverpool a double triumph after a largely second-string team beat their Bilbao equivalent 4-1 earlier in the evening with teenagers Ngumoha and Ben Doak notching along with Darwin Nunez and Harvey Elliott. 'In both games we created a lot of chances, scored seven goals, four in the first game and three in the second,' said Slot. 'So that's very pleasing to see because we definitely didn't score with every chance we had, especially in the second game, in the first half we could have scored a few more goals. 'That pleased me most, the ability to create the chances and to score seven goals over two games is also good.'

'Do not put him out on loan'

After another impressive pre-season perfrormance from Rio Ngumoha, we asked if you want to see the 16 year-old in Liverpool's first team this season. Here are some of your comments: Mark: Rio should be in the main squad. If you are good enough then you are old enough. But wrap him in cotton wool - he is going to be a star. Carl: I think Rio has an exciting future ahead of him. He is only 16 so I think Liverpool should send him out on loan to Tranmere. Go an help them in League Two. Nigel: Baby steps. We do not want him to think he is the finished article - I don't know his personality, some can handle it but most cannot. A lot of maturing and growing still to come. Dan: He glides past people with ease, you can see his football IQ is beyond his years, his positioning, passing, he has everything to be the next world beater. Hopefully Arne gives him a chance and with Diaz off to pastures new it opens up a slot for him on the left. Yes it's preseason but I think he is capable of doing that on a weekly basis in the Premier League. Eugene: Do not put him out on loan. Keep him at the club. He should make substitute appearances in the league and perhaps play all League Cup and FA cup games.

Fabrizio Romano confirms star wants to leave as door opens for Liverpool transfer

Fabrizio Romano has confirmed an exciting winger wants to leave his club and this opens the door for Liverpool to repeat a famous transfer trick. At this moment in time, all the focus at the club is around Alexander Isak. He is undoubtedly the main priority for the Reds and has been since the course of the last few months. 🔴 Shop the LFC Store 🚨2025/26 LFC x adidas range🚨 LFC x adidas Shop the away range TODAY LFC x adidas Shop the home range today! LFC x adidas Shop the goalkeeper range today LFC x adidas Shop the new adidas range today! Liverpool want to sign Isak and Isak wants to sign for Liverpool. Everything now hinges on Newcastle United and whether they can bring in the replacements needed to agree a sale for the Swedish international. But while all the focus is on Isak, the reality is that Liverpool probably need at least one more reinforcement in attack. After all Luis Diaz has left the club and now Darwin Nunez and Federico Chiesa both also look likely to leave. Isak alone cannot replace all three of them. Rio Ngumoha has shown promise but again, the Reds cannot rely on a soon to be 17-year-old teenager to be playing the amount of minutes that Diaz or Nunez played last season. 🔴 Shop the LFC 2025/26 adidas away range Ideally, Liverpool should look to sign another winger and they have the perfect opportunity to sign the best possible profile for the club. Fabrizio Romano confirmed on X that Tyrique George want to leave Chelsea. In his post he claimed that a number of Bundesliga clubs are interested in the 19-year-old's services. However, it shouldn't just be German sides wanting to sign George, this should open the doors for Liverpool to make a move for him. George is the perfect profile for what the Reds are looking for. He's young and he is versatile. He can play on the left, but he can also play through the middle and on the right-wing as well. He's had an impressive senior breakout campaign for Chelsea, and has averaged 0.65 goal contributions per 90 minutes at senior level in his career so far.
