Ex-NFL CB says the quiet part out loud about Steelers' Jalen Ramsey trade

While the recent departure of Minkah Fitzpatrick has ruffled more than a few feathers in Pittsburgh — ex-NFL CB Asante Samuel Sr. believes it was worth acquiring Jalen Ramsey. On Monday's episode of the Say What Needs To Be Said podcast, Samuel revealed his high hopes for the Ramsey-led Steelers defense this season — and criticized the Dolphins' trade mindset: "If the Steelers' defense was ranked 12th in total defense, with almost no production from Minkah Fitzpatrick last season, I know, and I guarantee, Jalen Ramsey will make this defense a better defense,' Asante said. "And the Dolphins had no reason to trade Jalen Ramsey, other than that they were sensitive. There's no leadership in the Dolphins organization. Mike McDaniels is a pushover. Chris Greer, the general manager, has no backbone. These guys over here, the Miami Dolphins, they are running this team like a little league team. … "To me, it doesn't make sense. Because [the Dolphins] traded for another safety, when Jalen Ramsey could easily be moved to safety and be way more productive than the person you just traded for.' Aside from the harsh criticism and complete dismantling of the Dolphins organization, Samuel hit the nail right on the head — the Steelers defense has gotten very few splash plays in return from Fitzpatrick over the past two seasons, while Ramsey is a proven ball hawk, solid tackler, and offers versatility across the secondary. Mark Kaboly shares troubling update on Steelers' wide receiver pursuit

Don't hold your breath on Pittsburgh adding additional wide receivers this offseason — as insider Mark Kaboly shed light on what position the Steelers are really after. The recent Minkah Fitzpatrick trade left the Steelers with a glaring hole at safety — and Kaboly doesn't believe FS Juan Thornhill is the long-term answer. During Thursday's appearance on 93.7 The Fan, Kaboly was asked whether he thinks the Steelers will sign a safety over a wide receiver — here was his response: "Yeah, probably," Kaboly said. "I mean, they love Calvin Austin, man. They think Roman Wilson can step up. They're intrigued with Robert Woods. Now, at this point [in free agency], what are you going to get? Are you going to get a Keenan Allen that doesn't want to play, or Amari Cooper? … I like Calvin Austin. I don't know if he could take it to that next level that they need to take it to, but I think they're very willing to be able to take that chance to see if he can do it." It's also worth mentioning that many believe newly acquired TE Jonnu Smith could take some snaps at receiver — particularly in the slot — serving as more evidence that the Steelers value their in-house pass catchers over any more signings. If the Steelers do pursue another safety in free agency, my money would be on four-time All-Pro Justin Simmons or Julian Blackmon. Alabama Receives Exciting Update on 5-Star EDGE

Alabama Receives Exciting Update on 5-Star EDGE originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The consensus around the Alabama Crimson Tide football program this summer is that they will be just fine under head coach Kalen DeBoer. Advertisement Last season, Alabama posted a 9-4 record, and although impressive on the surface, they failed to win double-digit games for the first time since 2017. The Crimson Tide lost two of their final three games, while missing the College Football Playoff field for the second time in three seasons. Many fans and pundits alike questioned DeBoer, the successor to six-time national championship-winning frontman Nick Saban. However, Alabama and DeBoer have done a great job silencing the haters this offseason, specifically with their development of the 2026 recruiting class. Alabama Crimson Tide head coach Kalen DeBoer talks to wide receiver Germie Bernard (5).Gary Cosby Jr.-Imagn Images According to 247Sports, Alabama boasts the sixth-best recruiting class for the 2026 group, securing hard commitments from 12 prospects in the last month. More notably, the Tide are nowhere near done, with elite prospects likely on the horizon. Advertisement On Thursday, uncommitted five-star edge rusher Anthony "Tank" Jones revealed his final three schools, with the Crimson Tide making the list. Jones is also considering the Texas A&M Aggies and the Oregon Ducks. The seventh-ranked edge rusher and a five-star in the 247COMPOSITE, Jones is a 6-foot-4, 240-pound pass rusher from Mobile, Alabama. The Tide are looking to keep Jones instate after posting 84 tackles, 18 tackles for loss, and 16 sacks last year. If DeBoer and his staff can land Jones, he will be the team's second five-star verbal commit for 2026, joining edge Xavier Griffin. The Alabama Crimson Tide also houses pledges from fellow pass rushers Jamarion Matthews and Kamhariyan Johnson, signifying a desire to possess a war chest of edge defenders.
