BSNL inks pact with Numaligarh Refinery to deploy private 5G network
NEW DELHI: State-controlled Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited ( BSNL ) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Numaligarh Refinery (NRL) to deploy a private 5G network for the public sector oil company, which would be India's first captive non-public network (CNPN) in the refinery sector. BSNL and NRL, in a joint statement on Sunday, said that the deployment would usher in a new era of secure, ultra-reliable, and real-time industrial connectivity, while supporting mission-critical operations. The companies signed the pact during a workshop on driving the adoption of Industry 4.0 technologies – including 5G CNPN, digital twins, 3D printing with AI, virtual formulation, AR/VR/MR, IoT, and Big Data Analytics – among Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSEs) to foster innovation, efficiency, and Atmanirbhar Bharat. Bhaskar Jyoti Phukan, MD, NRL, said the integration of 5G CNPN will enhance operational efficiency and cybersecurity, as well as, enable transformative technologies such as AR/VR-based training, digital twins, and real-time Internet of Things (IoT) applications. 'The deployment of a dedicated 5G CNPN at NRL will mark a technological leap forward—not only in connectivity but in redefining how core industries can operate in the future. As a trusted public telecom provider, BSNL is proud to pioneer this journey toward a self-reliant, digitally intelligent Bharat,' said Robert J Ravi, CMD, BSNL. Sudhakararao Papa, director (enterprise business), BSNL, added that this collaboration represents a 'historic milestone' in the adoption of 5G and Industry 4.0 within India's industrial ecosystem. He reaffirmed BSNL's commitment to supporting Digital India by offering secure, robust, and future-ready communication infrastructure for CPSEs and enterprises. In April 2025, ETTelecom first reported that Indian telecom startup Tidal Wave , using BSNL's spectrum, deployed a private 5G network at state-run Coal India for enhanced connectivity, remote operations, and real-time data analytics. The next-generation (5G)-backed captive network is one of the top enterprise business opportunities for telecom service providers who are finding it hard to realise a return on investment (RoI) following the unavailability of relevant use cases and the unwillingness among enterprises in India.

Four arrested in Rs 3 crore online investment fraud in Hyderabad
HYDERABAD: The Cybercrime police arrested four persons in connection with an online investment scam, in which a Hyderabad resident lost Rs 3 crore. The accused have been identified as Srinivas Manubothula, a software consultant from Narsingi, Rangareddy, Syed Yousuf, a real estate agent from Aghapura, Chekka Yeshaya alias Shekar from Banjara Hills, and Mohammed Jaber Ahmed, a businessman from Mehdipatnam. According to the police, the victim, a resident of North Lalaguda, lodged a complaint on June 28 alleging that on April 14, a woman named Anu Pritha Daga, posing as an assistant mentor to one Ajay Garg, purported to be the CEO of SMC Global Securities Ltd, invited him to join an online investment group via WhatsApp. On May 29, Daga persuaded the complainant to invest in the group through a website link she shared. Claiming they provided SEBI-approved trading and cash management services, she convinced him to invest in the Initial Public Offering (IPO) of a fictitious company, 'Influx Health Tech Ltd'. The complainant was allegedly allotted shares worth Rs 49 crore without his consent. When he raised objections, the fraudsters agreed to reduce the allotment and requested Rs 3 crore, which he transferred across 16 bank accounts. Initially, he was allowed to withdraw Rs 10,000 to build trust. However, he was later told his account had gone into a negative balance due to non-payment for the Rs 49 crore worth of shares. When they demanded more money, he realised he had been tricked. Srinivas had started a drone software company in 2023 and opened a current account in the name of 'Drones Spray'. Facing financial losses, he was introduced to others who wanted to use accounts for 'investments'. In exchange, he was promised a 10% commission on the deposited amount. Syed Yousuf and his accomplice allegedly travelled to Mumbai with the SIM card linked to Srinivas' bank account. Fraudsters transferred Rs 4.3 crore into the account, which was then distributed across various accounts via net banking.
