49ers TE George Kittle reveals advice he received recently from Chiefs TE Travis Kelce

USA Today2 days ago
This week, Chiefs Wire's Ed Easton Jr. spoke to San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle about his participation in this weekend's American Century Championship, which will take place July 11-13 at Edgewood Tahoe. Kittle also discussed the growth of Tight End University with Greg Olsen and Kansas City Chiefs star Travis Kelce, who offered him unique golf advice.
"I think one of my favorite things is when I get like a vet, like a guy going into year 4, 5, or 6, and they come up to me, Travis (Kelce), or Greg (Olsen), and just go; guys want to say, thanks so much for continuing to include me. I pick something up every single year," said Kittle regarding the impact of Tight End University. "I mean, in the last year, we had almost 80 guys. I think 20 of the guys have been all five years, and they always appreciate the time we spend together, and then, like, because they're like, I'm friends with so many more guys in the league, which I thoroughly enjoy. Every game, I get to see a friend across the sidelines. Hopefully, we win, but I still see him and see what's up."
Kittle will be participating in his first American Century Championship, and he received some unique advice from Kelce that may help alleviate his nerves on his debut.
"I think Travis (Kelce) told me to have a few drinks before the first tee box," said Kittle, "So not too nervous."
The annual golf tournament awards $750,000 in prize money, much of which the celebrity players donate to local and national charities. Over the years, nearly $8 million has been donated to non-profit causes. Network television exposure on NBC and a first-place prize of $150,000 make the celebrity tournament one of the most prestigious in the golf world.

Travis Kelce's Wordless Reaction to Patrick Mahomes' Latest Instagram Post originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce isn't on social media much these days, but when he does, he almost always gives fans something to talk about. Advertisement That was the case on Wednesday when Kelce popped onto Instagram to comment on one of his teammates' posts. Two-time MVP quarterback Patrick Mahomes shared on his personal IG page a new commercial he starred in as part of a paid partnership with beer company Coors Light along with the caption: 'Chill out in the chillest place on Earth, the Patrick Plunge. Come on in, the water's freezing. #ad #21+.' The video starts talks about fans wanting to be 'as chill as Patrick Mahomes' needing to cold plunge before cutting to a video of a Mahomes hopping into a giant cold plunge in the shape of his head, called 'The Patrick Plunge,' which the video dubbed 'the chilliest place on earth.' The tandem have combined for 686 receptions, 8,126 yards receiving and 56 touchdowns in the regular season, and 155 receptions, 1,745 yards, and 19 touchdowns in the postseason. Will Taylor Swift join Travis Kelce at the Tahoe celebrity golf tournament this weekend?

Taylor Swift could be among the stars spotted in South Lake Tahoe this weekend as speculation swirls that she'll join boyfriend Travis Kelce at the annual American Century Championship. Kelce, the Kansas City Chiefs tight end and Super Bowl champ, is confirmed to compete in the charity tournament, which draws a wide range of celebrity athletes and entertainers. This year's lineup, which tees off Friday, July 11, includes Stephen Curry, Aaron Rodgers, Charles Barkley and Kelce's brother, Jason. Swift's attendance hasn't been confirmed, but the pop superstar's consistent presence alongside Kelce this summer makes it increasingly likely. The couple has been spending much of the offseason together. 'Taylor and Travis are soaking up every minute of this slower season together,' a source told People. 'They've been splitting their time between New York, Nashville, and a few quiet getaways, just enjoying each other's company without all the usual chaos.' In June, Swift made a surprise appearance at Kelce's Tight End University event, where she joined Cincinnati Bengals running back Chase Brown onstage to sing her 2014 hit 'Shake It Off.' Swift and Kelce also spent the Fourth of July weekend at the exclusive Yellowstone Club in Montana, reportedly skipping Swift's traditional Rhode Island bash for more private time together. 'They're incredibly happy and in sync,' another insider told People. 'There's a calmness and ease to their relationship right now that's been really grounding for Taylor and Travis.' Adding to speculation, Swift's close friend Keleigh Teller is expected in Tahoe to support her husband, actor Miles Teller, who is also competing. Despite ongoing engagement rumors, sources say there's no imminent proposal. 'He is likely going to pop the question, but it is going to be when he isn't playing anymore,' a source told the Daily Mail.

Chiefs GM Brett Veach admits hard truth about Travis Kelce: ‘This might be it'

The Chiefs' front office knows Travis Kelce is chasing Father Time. With the 35-year-old tight end preparing for his 13th season in the league after a statistically down year — 823 yards in 2024 compared to 984 in 2023, among other notable drops — Chiefs general manager Brett Veach told ESPN that even though Kelce is on the back nine, he still flashes when it matters most. 'We've all seen it over the last few years,' Veach said. 'There are periods throughout the season where you're like, 'This might be it.' But when the games are the most important and the lights are the brightest, he finds it somewhere.' Advertisement 5 Travis Kelce is on the back-nine according to his General Manager. Then came Super Bowl 2025, when the defending champion Chiefs flopped on the biggest stage in a 40-22 loss to the Eagles. 5 Travis Kelce and the Chiefs turned in a dud of a performance against the Eagles in Super Bowl 2025. 'They know where it's buried, and they know how to access it. And they can't access it at that age week in and week out, but when they need it, they know how to find it.' Veach previously told The Post at the 2025 NFL Combine that Kelce ended the season 'fired up,' and the Chiefs believe he still 'has that fire and desire to play.' AP Kelce still has one year left on his contract as the Chiefs look to build out their offense, which has dipped in production. Kansas City averaged 22.7 points per game last season (12th-best) and 23.1 points in 2023 (14th-best), a drop from 29.2 in 2022 (best in the NFL) and 29.4 in 2021 (fourth-best).
