Asim Arun's personal secy suspended after harassment complaint
Uttar Pradesh
social welfare minister Asim Arun, was suspended on Friday—a day after he was booked for sexual harassment of a woman employee at the department's headquarters.
According to the FIR, the survivor, a contractual staffer at Bhagedari Bhawan in Lucknow, accused Singh of repeated sexual misconduct, including two recent instances of inappropriate physical contact. Breaking down before the minister, she recounted incidents that took place on July 28 and four to five days prior, alleging prolonged harassment.
Minister Arun, upon hearing the complaint, immediately summoned the police to his office.
Singh was taken into custody on the spot and later suspended. Arun also recommended a full administrative inquiry through the state secretariat.
"Law doesn't stop at the road—it applies inside offices too," the minister said, praising the woman's courage in speaking up. "No one is above the law—not even my own PS."
A former IPS officer, Arun added that the govt will now strictly enforce the POSH Act and Vishaka Guidelines across departments.
He also announced a new "Outsourcing Corporation" under CM Yogi Adityanath to address broader structural issues affecting outsourced workers.
However, Arun cautioned against linking sexual harassment to outsourcing alone. "This is a gendered crime. The nature of employment does not determine the seriousness of the offence," he said, promising increased awareness campaigns and stronger internal complaint mechanisms.

Dera Sacha Sauda chief gets parole again
Agency: PTI Last Updated: Chandigarh, Aug 5 (PTI) Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, serving a 20-year jail term for raping two of his disciples, walked out of Sunaria prison in Haryana's Rohtak on Tuesday after being granted a 40-day parole. Prior to this, Singh has come out of prison 13 times since he was convicted in 2017. This year itself, Singh was granted a 21-day furlough in April and a 30-day parole in January. He will stay at his Sirsa-headquartered Dera during his parole, said Dera spokesperson and advocate Jitender Khurana. After reaching Sirsa under tight security, Singh appealed to his followers in a video message to not turn up at the Dera and adhere to the instructions of the sect elders. Reacting to development, Haryana Minister Anil Vij told reporters here that the parole has been granted strictly in line with the laid-down rules. Vij said all actions are carried out within the legal framework. Singh, who will turn 58 on August 15, was convicted in 2017 for raping two of his disciples. The Dera chief and three others were also convicted in 2019 for the murder of a journalist more than 16 years ago. By the time Singh returns to jail at the end of his parole, he would have spent three months out of prison this year. He was granted a 21-day furlough in April and a 30-day parole in January this year ahead of the Delhi Assembly polls. He was granted a 20-day parole on October 1 last year, days before the October 5 Haryana assembly polls. In August last year, Singh was granted a 21-day furlough. He was granted a three-week furlough from February 7, 2022, barely two weeks before the Punjab assembly polls. Sikh organisations, like the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), have in the past criticised the grant of relief to Singh. On Tuesday, too, SGPC president Harjinder Singh Dhami said the government was releasing the Dera chief on parole and furlough, whereas 'Bandi Singhs' (Sikh prisoners) continue to be lodged in jails. According to Sikh bodies, 'Bandi Singhs' are those Sikh prisoners who remain in jail even after the completion of their sentences. Dera spokesperson Khurana said parole or furlough has been granted to Singh within the ambit of law by the authorities concerned. 'Even the fresh parole has been granted within that ambit. In the past too, these have been granted within those parameters and no special parole has been given," Khurana said. Prior to Tuesday's parole, Singh has come out of prison 13 times since 2017. On most of these occasions, he has stayed at the Dera's ashram in Barnawa in Uttar Pradesh's Baghpat. In May last year, the Punjab and Haryana High Court acquitted Singh and four others in the 2002 murder of the sect's former manager Ranjit Singh, citing 'tainted and sketchy" investigations into the matter. Earlier, a special CBI court sentenced them to life imprisonment in the nearly 20-year-old murder case. It held Singh guilty of hatching a criminal conspiracy with his co-accused. The Sirsa-headquartered Dera Sacha Sauda has a number of followers in Haryana, Punjab, Rajasthan and other states. In Haryana, the Dera has a sizable number of followers in many districts, including Sirsa, Fatehabad, Kurukshetra, Kaithal and Hisar. Woman files sexual abuse case against Infopark employer
1 2 Kochi: A woman arrested by Kochi city police for allegedly attempting to extort money from her former employer — an IT company owner — has lodged an FIR against him for sexual harassment and intimidation. The Infopark police registered the FIR on Tuesday against Venu Gopalakrishnan (50) of Thuthiyoor, Kakkanad, and his employees Jacob, Ebi and Bimalraj. The FIR was registered under sections 351 (2) (intimidation), 79 (insult to a woman's modesty), 74 (criminal force to a woman with the intent to outrage her modesty), 75 (sexual harassment) and 3(5) (common intention) and IT Act. The alleged incident, as per the FIR, occurred between Feb 14, 2024 and July 24, 2025. Ernakulam Central police booked the couple on July 28 for the husband's purported bid to extort Rs 30 crore from Gopalakrishnan alleging he had an illicit relationship with his wife. The couple was arrested the following day but granted bail on July 30. The woman filed the sexual harassment complaint against Gopalakrishnan and others following that. In the bail plea filed before Ernakulam chief judicial magistrate, the couple stated the case was falsely foisted as the woman was about to complain as per sexual harassment at workplace act. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Cardiologists: 1 Teaspoon of This Before Bed Melts Belly Fat Like Crazy Portal Life Click Here Undo They alleged that Gopalakrishnan, with the help of a director at the company and other staffers, tried to settle the issue. Under the guise of mediation, they were called to a hotel's dining area. Though the employer had offered to apologize, they were arrested, the husband and wife alleged. In the bail plea, the couple alleged that the case was registered with the help of police higher-ups. The court noted in the bail order that the arrest appeared to have been done hurriedly and that after registering the FIR, a trap was seemingly laid to bring the couple to the hotel. The order said that quite unusually, like in NDPS cases, a tahsildar was brought in as a witness. The couple was arrested allegedly with three stamp papers, with the content being suppression of digital content in the form of screenshots, chats, etc. , in possession of the woman, which needs to be seen in the light of the claim of initiation of steps under the POSH Act, the bail order noted. It added that the arrest should have been preceded by an inquiry into what those digital contents were. "In the FIR, it is stated that the threatening conversation of the second accused (husband) is recorded but the remand report does not show that it was collected before the hurried arrest…." the order said. It added whether someone would create documents to prove extortion when he actually intends to extort is also doubtful and that the arrest appears to be done without collecting sufficient materials justifying an arrest. The woman has also approached the court demanding that her mobile phone seized by the police should be subjected to forensic examination to retrieve evidence of her allegations.

‘Baseless, deeply objectionable': Jaisalmer Royal slams new NCERT textbook depicting city as part of ‘Maratha Empire'
The newly released NCERT Class 8 Social Science textbook has run into controversy, with a member of the Jaisalmer royal family objecting to a map depicting Jaisalmer as part of the Maratha empire, calling it 'historically misleading.' Chaitanya Raj Singh of the erstwhile princely state of Jaisalmer wrote in a post on X on Monday: 'The map shown in the NCERT Social Science textbook for Class 8 (Unit 3, page number 71) depicts Jaisalmer as a part of the then Maratha Empire, which is historically misleading, factually baseless, and deeply objectionable.' 'In the context of the Jaisalmer princely state, no authentic historical sources mention any Maratha dominance, invasion, taxation, or authority. On the contrary, our royal records clearly state that the Marathas never had any interference in the Jaisalmer princely state,' he added. The map he referred to shows the extent of the Maratha empire, along with tributary states, in 1759. In addition to parts of the western coast, it shows the Maratha empire as covering a large part of the northern plains and present-day Gujarat, Rajasthan, Lahore, and Peshawar. 'Such unverified and historically unsubstantiated information not only raises questions about the credibility of institutions like NCERT but also hurts our glorious history and public sentiments. This issue is not merely a textbook error but appears to be an attempt to tarnish the sacrifices, sovereignty, and valorous saga of our ancestors,' Singh wrote in his post. — Chaitanya Raj Singh (@crsinghbhati) August 4, 2025 He urged Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan to take 'such erroneous, malicious, and agenda-driven presentations by NCERT' seriously and called for their immediate correction. 'This is not just a matter of factual correction but is connected to our historical dignity, self-respect, and the integrity of the national curriculum. Prompt and concrete action is expected on this matter,' he wrote. The NCERT has not responded to a request for comment. The new Class 8 Social Science textbook, released last month, includes a separate chapter on the Marathas. Under the old curriculum, the Class 7 History textbook had a section on the Marathas as part of a chapter on 18th-century political formations. That chapter had two maps indicating state formations during that period. While it did not mark specific boundaries, it placed the Marathas in the region of present-day Maharashtra, with arrows pointing outward to indicate their expansion, and the Rajputs around present-day Rajasthan. The chapter in the old textbook stated: 'By the 1730s, the Maratha king was recognised as the overlord of the entire Deccan peninsula.' It added: 'After raiding Delhi in 1737, the frontiers of Maratha domination expanded rapidly: into Rajasthan and the Punjab in the north; into Bengal and Orissa in the east; and into Karnataka and the Tamil and Telugu countries in the South. These were not formally included in the Maratha empire, but were made to pay tribute as a way of accepting Maratha sovereignty.'
