WYD organisers host gratitude night for volunteers with Marian ceremony
Bishop Paul Kyeong-sang Lee poses with over 150 volunteers of the WYD Seoul 2027 Local Organising Committee after the May Crowning and Fellowship Night held on May 24, 2025, at the LOC office courtyard in Seoul.
SEOUL: A symbolic May Crowning and fellowship event celebrated the dedication of World Youth Day (WYD) Seoul 2027 volunteers with prayer, gratitude, and joyful community gathering. The Local Organising Committee (LOC) of World Youth Day (WYD) Seoul 2027 hosted around 150 volunteers on May 24 for an evening of Marian devotion and fellowship at its headquarters in Seoul. The event opened with the May Crowning, presided over by Bishop Paul Kyeong-sang Lee, general coordinator of the WYD Seoul 2027 LOC. Participants offered roses to the Virgin Mary — each flower representing a spiritual intention: communications, humbleness, enthusiasm, trustful surrender, and devout faith. 'This symbolic act allowed them to express what they hoped to cultivate spiritually through their work in preparation for WYD,' the LOC said in a statement. In his brief address, Bishop Lee praised the volunteers' contributions. 'Your dedication is the living spirit of WYD. Every prayer, every effort you've offered is a seed of grace,' he said. 'May you never forget that the work you do here is building not just an event, but a generation rooted in Christ,' he added. At 6.00pm, the celebration transitioned to Fellowship Night, where ten priests traded their clerical wear for aprons and served food and drinks to volunteers. Bishop Lee joined the gathering, engaging with volunteers at every table.
The night ended with a lucky draw, capping off an evening marked by faith, appreciation, and strengthened bonds among those working toward WYD Seoul 2027. --LiCAS News

The ceremony was officiated by Sarawak Transport Minister Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin, who is also in charge of this year's Sarawak Day celebrations on July 22 in Miri. The majestic Ibu Pertiwi flag, measuring 25 metres in length and 12.4 metres in width, was raised with pride on its 99.4-metre-high flagpole. The event commenced with an inspection of the Kuching North City Commission (DBKU) Honor Guard, followed by the rendition of the state anthem, 'Ibu Pertiwiku.' Attendees were also treated to a performance by local artist Tini Tyrani, who showcased Sarawak's cultural heritage through a Sarawak Day-themed presentation. The month flag-raising ceremony, organised by DBKU, is a continuous civic initiative aimed at fostering patriotism and strengthening a shared sense of identity among Sarawakians. The ceremony saw the presence of several dignitaries including Kuching North mayor Dato Hilmy Othman, Ministry of Transport Sarawak (MOTS) permanent secretary Datu Wong Hee Sieng, as well as senior officials and commission members from MOTS and DBKU. The inaugural flag-raising ceremony was officiated by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg on July 28 last year, marking the official launch of the Dataran Ibu Pertiwi as a civic landmark. Dataran Ibu Pertiwi has since become one of Kuching's most iconic landmarks, recognised not only for its monumental flag but also as a site that reflects the spirit and aspirations of the people of Sarawak. MIRI (July 7): Sarawak Transport Minister Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin has directed an immediate and comprehensive inspection of the ongoing Kampung Tudan 3 road widening project following public complaints regarding the quality and safety standards of the construction. Lee, who is also the Senadin assemblyman, personally inspected the site on Friday, July 4, after receiving feedback from residents expressing concern that the stone base in the widened areas may not meet the specified construction standards. 'Any non-compliance issue must be addressed before proceeding with the laying of the premix,' said Lee in a statement, following the site visit. He was accompanied by Miri City Council (MCC) engineer Peter Ukin, MCC councillor Hiung Chien Yii, and community leader Kapitan Chong Ah Muk. Lee instructed the engineer to carry out a thorough inspection of the stone base to verify the contractor's compliance with the required technical specifications. The Kampung Tudan 3 to Kampung Cina road widening project is being implemented under the Senadin constituency Rural Transformation Project (RTP). Lee also emphasised the proper use of construction waste for earth-filling works, requiring that only specified materials be used in compliance with environmental and structural standards. To avoid similar issues in future projects, Lee urged MCC to assign dedicated technical staff to regularly verify that construction standards and specifications are strictly adhered to. During the same visit, Lee and his team also inspected several completed road resurfacing projects in Tudan, including Lorong Harmoni with a total road length of 2,060 metres, and Lorong Perdana, covering 2,082 metres. The completed works at both locations were found to be satisfactory. kampung tudan lead Lee Kim Shin road upgrades
