Lee Corso to be honored at ESPYS as he begins his farewell from ‘College GameDay'
'This is a unique opportunity we have to weave him into the evening and really begin the process of sending him off with full honors,' ESPN's president of content Burke Magnus said. 'To get him there in person to acknowledge all of his contributions and what he's meant to both the company and sports, but more importantly the fans, we just think it's a fitting way to kick off his departure.'
Kirk Herbstreit, Desmond Howard and Pat McAfee will give their thoughts about Corso before a video tribute airs. Corso will then have a couple of minutes to be acknowledged by the crowd at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles.
Corso — the lone remaining member of the show's original cast who turns 90 in August — announced earlier this year that his final show would be on the opening week of the season. ESPN last month revealed the 39th season of 'GameDay' would begin in Columbus, Ohio, before defending national champion Ohio State hosts the Texas Longhorns on Aug. 30.

started at Ohio State on Oct. 5, 1996, before the Buckeyes faced Penn State. Since then, he has gone 286-144 in 430 selections wearing everything from helmets and mascot heads to dressing up as the Fighting Irish leprechaun from Notre Dame, the Stanford tree and historic figures James Madison and Benjamin Franklin. He has worn 69 different school's mascot headgear.
His television career withstood a stroke in 2009 that left him unable to speak for a while. Even though his appearances on the road have decreased in recent seasons, he was in Atlanta in January for the College Football Playoff national title game between Ohio State and Notre Dame.
'With the popularity and cultural phenomenon that 'GameDay' became, there's no one more responsible for that than Lee Corso. The way he changed the way the game was covered with the irreverence, the humor, the lack of a filter, all of those things that sort of set the tone and the standard,' said 'GameDay' host Rece Davis.

Sam Acho to join Cardinals' preseason TV broadcasts as analyst
The Cardinals bring back a former player to help call preseason games. The Arizona Cardinals have announced another addition to their broadcast team, although it is only for the preseason. They announced Wednesday that Sam Acho would be the analyst for the TV broadcast of the team's three preseason games. This comes on the heels of the announcement that former Cardinals offensive lineman A.Q. Shipley would be the team's new radio analyst for game broadcasts. Ron Wolfley was previously the radio analyst and, for preseason games, the analyst for the team's television broadcasts, but he stepped down after 20 years, wishing to have more time with his family on weekends. Acho was a fourth-round pick of the Cardinals out of Texas in 2011 and played nine years in the league, the first four with the Cardinals. He is also an ESPN analyst, focusing mostly on college football. The Cardinals will broadcast all three of their preseason games on television on CBS-5. Dave Pasch, the team's radio play-by-play announcer, will call play-by-play for the first two preseason games on television with Acho. Dani Sureck will be the sideline reporter for the TV broadcasts. Pasch, who also is a college football announcer for ESPN, will not be available for the Aug. 23 preseason finale against the Las Vegas Raiders, so Paul Calvisi, normally the sideline reporter for the radio broadcast team, will call play-by-play with Acho as the analyst. While Pasch is working the TV broadcast, Calvisi will call play-by-play on the radio for the first two preseason games with Shipley. Shannon Sharpe opens up about ESPN firing — and why he wanted news to wait even longer
Shannon Sharpe is speaking out after his reported firing by ESPN on Wednesday, saying he's 'at peace' with the axing. After The Athletic's Andrew Marchand broke the news earlier in the day, the Pro Football Hall of Famer addressed the news on his 'Nightcap' podcast. Sharpe said he had known that he was officially done at ESPN for a little bit, but he was hoping the news wouldn't be made public until his brother, Sterling Sharpe, was officially inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame this weekend. That, however, did not happen. 'I found out this information a little earlier in the week, and really the only thing that I really asked is, 'Guys, could we wait until Monday? My brother's going into the Pro Football Hall of Fame, I really want it to be about him and I want it to be about my family,' Sharpe said. 'I said, 'This coming out will overshadow everything he's worked his entire life for.' And, unfortunately, it didn't happen that way.' Sharpe said he 'profusely' apologized to his brother about it. The former Super Bowl champion wideout is done at the network after he settled a $50 million lawsuit where he was accused of rape. Sharpe had been named in a civil lawsuit filed in Nevada state court this spring that alleged he committed assault, sexual assault, sexual battery and battery. Shannon Sharpe addressed his ESPN firing. He denied 'all allegations of coercion or misconduct,' through his legal team, and he stepped away from his duties at ESPN in April. 'I really enjoyed my time at ESPN, they gave me an opportunity to bring my audience that saw me really just grow,' Sharpe said on his podcast. 'They did what they felt they needed to do, I'm at peace with that. I just wish this thing could've waited until Monday because I hate the fact that I am overshadowing my brother. First two brothers in the Pro Football Hall of Fame, and this is what the headline is going to be for the next couple of days.' Sharpe then used his podcast platform to apologize directly to his brother one more time. Mariners Reportedly Acquire Diamondbacks Slugger Eugenio Suárez
The Arizona Diamondbacks are trading All-Star third baseman Eugenio Suarez to the Seattle Mariners, according to a report from ESPN. Suarez was viewed as one of the more sure bets to get dealt ahead of the July 31 trade deadline. Suárez is batting .247 with 36 home runs, 87 RBIs (tied for the most in MLB) and an OPS of .898.
