Maruti Suzuki expects 20% export growth in FY26, Hyundai bullish about single-digit growth
Hyundai and Maruti Suzuki, two leading car manufacturers in the Indian passenger vehicle market, are expecting robust growth in export volumes in FY26. Both these car manufacturers expect healthy growth in overseas shipments in the current financial year amid the challenging business environment in the domestic market. Maruti Suzuki is bullish about achieving around 20 per cent export growth in FY26, while Hyundai is expecting a single-digit growth in overseas shipments this fiscal.

Remember Volkswagen's Scalable Systems Platform, or SSP, which is a modular electric vehicle architecture? It's been more than four years since the German automaker announced the SSP, the all-encompassing electric vehicle of the OEM. Volkswagen's Scalable Systems Platform was originally expected to be ready by now, but it has been delayed until later this decade. This setback has been attributed to Volkswagen's software division Cariad. However, the auto major is revealing new details of the SSP.

Electric vehicles may have been facing multi-dimensional challenges, but the electric car retail sales in May 2025 crossed four per cent in India. It was the first time that electric cars crossed this mark. During the same month a year ago, electric cars sold 2.6 per cent, revealed the data by the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA). Also, the data has revealed that May 2025 recorded an uptick from 3.5 per cent in April this year by 0.5 per cent.

New road will remain as symbol of India-Guyana
Georgetown [Guyana], July 1 (ANI): As Guyana President Irfaan Ali commissioned Phase I of the Ogle to Eccles portion of the East Coast-East Bank road linkage project on Tuesday, the External Affairs Minister conveyed greetings on behalf of the people and government of India and said the new road will not only connect the East Bank and East Coast, reduce travel time and improving connectivity, but would remain as a symbol of 'deep friendship' shared by two nations. In a video message for the people of Guyana, Jaishankar complimented Indian companies for the successful completion of the project. He said the project demonstrates 'the aspirations of Guyanese people and is also emblematic of the able leadership and vision of President Ali's government towards Guyana's progress and prosperity.' In the video message shared by the Indian High Commission in Guyana on X, Jaishankar said, 'During my visit to Guyana last year, I witnessed and experienced the warmth of our relationship and the unbreakable bonds of friendship that connect us. This new road will not only connect the East Bank and East Coast, reducing travel time and improving connectivity, but will remain as a symbol of our deep friendship, signifying the indomitable spirit of our people, which connects our two countries.' He hailed ties between India and Guyana, saying that the two nations have a 'bond of blood' deeply rooted in shared history, common values, and a strong belief in Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam. He expressed India's happiness to see the growth and progress made by Guyana in creating excellent infrastructure. Jaishankar said, 'I am delighted to join you as we witness yet another milestone in the expanding partnership between India and Guyana. Guyana has a very special place in our hearts. It is not just another relationship. It is a bond of blood, deeply rooted in our shared history, our common values, and our strong belief in 'Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam', or the world is one family. We are extremely proud of Guyana's economic and developmental transformation. We are delighted to see the impressive growth and progress being made in creating excellent infrastructure that should contribute towards Guyana's future development as one of the fastest-growing economies.' S. Jaishankar has refuted Donald Trump's claims on mediation between the South Asian neighbors Indian Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar has refuted US President Donald Trump's assertion of using trade as leverage to negotiate a ceasefire between India and Pakistan during a military showdown in May. Trump has repeatedly said that the US mediated between the South Asian neighbors when they were involved in a 4-day confrontation and offered more trade with both countries if they ceased hostilities. "I think the trade people are doing what the trade people should be doing, which is negotiate with numbers and lines and products and do their trade-offs," Jaishankar told Newsweek in an interview, when asked if trade talks were linked to the recent conflict in the subcontinent. "I think they are very professional and very, very focused about it." The US and India are engaged in negotiations and racing to meet a July 9 deadline set by Trump, after which reciprocal tariffs will be imposed if an agreement is not reached. Speaking about the military confrontation with Pakistan, Jaishankar said that he was in the room when US Vice President J D Vance spoke to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the night of May 9, "saying that the Pakistanis would launch a very massive assault on India if we did not accept certain things." He added that Modi told Vance that there would be a response from India. "This was the night before and the Pakistanis did attack us massively that night, we responded very quickly thereafter," he said. The Indian foreign minister who is in Washington for a meeting of foreign ministers of the so-called Quad, comprising India, the US, Japan, and Australia, said trade talks between New Delhi and Washington were progressing. "We are in the middle, hopefully more than the middle, of a very intricate trade do think today that in trade, there will have to be some give and take," Jaishankar said in the Newsweek interview. "Just as people in the US have an opinion about India, Indians too have an opinion about the US. There will be some sort of middle ground, we just have to wait and watch the space for the next few days." White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt said on Monday that Washington and New Delhi were "finalizing" a trade deal. A potential trade agreement, however, still faces roadblocks. On Monday, Indian Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman told newspaper Financial Express that even as the deal talks are on, India has stated that agriculture and dairy must be excluded from any tariff agreement.

Assam sets new record in paddy procurement, 7 lakh MT of paddy procured
Guwahati (Assam) [India], July 1 (ANI): Assam has set a new record in paddy procurement by procuring nearly 7 lakh MT of paddy during the Kharif Marketing Season (KMS) 2024-25. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday said, 'We are proud to announce the successful conclusion of Kharif Marketing Season (KMS) 2024-25 with a record paddy procurement of 6.97 lakh MT -- the highest ever.' In Kharif Marketing Season (KMS) 2022-23, the state procured 5.92 lakh MT of paddy, and in 2023-24, the state procured 3.14 lakh MT of paddy. 'This remarkable achievement reflects our commitment to ensuring that our farmers are connected to markets and the Minimum Support Price (MSP) they rightfully deserve. My sincere gratitude to the entire team involved with the procurement process,' the Assam Chief Minister wrote on X. On the other hand, the farmers from Majuli district of Assam exported 267 MT of Red Rice to the Middle East and EU markets. 'Assam's agricultural products are capturing the global market due to their high quality & nutrient-rich content. Recently, farmers from Majuli expanded their reach to the Middle East and EU markets as they exported 267MT of Red Rice- earning higher profits & establishing Brand Assam,' CM Sarma wrote on X. Meanwhile, Majuli, the river island district in Assam, has marked a significant milestone as its indigenous organic red bao paddy makes its debut in the global market. In a historic development, the first consignment of this unique variety of rice has been formally exported to countries in Central Asia and Europe, bringing smiles to the faces of Majuli's farming community. The export initiative has been spearheaded by the Majuli Agro Organic Farmer Producer Company Limited, under the Assam Department of Horticulture and Food Processing. With full cooperation from the Majuli District Agriculture Department, IVC Agrovet Private Limited collected the paddy and transported it to Haryana. From there, it will be further distributed across various Indian states and exported to international destinations. The official flag-off ceremony took place at the FPC premises in Pokajora Tiniali, where 267 metric tonnes of organic red bao paddy were dispatched to Mumbai as the first step in the export journey. Notably, this rice was cultivated without the use of any chemical fertilisers, pesticides, or herbicides--upholding the ecological integrity of Majuli's farmlands. (ANI)
